DePaul vs Texas Tech

You're probably the same idiot who was preaching all last year that LSU's season would be wiped out by the NCAA and nothing happened.
I may be an idiot, but I can honestly say I don't even remember what happened with LSU last year, let alone had anything to say about it when whatever said incident occurred.........I have a poor memory when it comes to things I don't care about. :)

That doesn't change the fact that...
DePaul cheats. :D

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program.

Winning games has to be used to recruit at a higher level.
Ultimately producing NBA talent trumps winning in the minds of the majority of top tier recruits.
I say this as someone who is around the basketball community here in Houston.

They aren't failing to live up to expectations when the players are going to the NBA
You fail when these players don't develop and highly rated recruits either get into trouble or are forced to play overseas.

You guys have won exactly 2 NCAA Tournament games this decade. How is that even possible? It's like you guys are trying to underachieve. Look at where your previous 10 class were ranked:

2018- 8
2017- 6
2016- 6
2015- 18
2014- 41
2013- 33
2012- 9
2011- 5
2010- 29
2009- 3

You won an NCAAT game in 2011 and 2014. That's it. If that makes you want to pound your chest, I say go for it. Just think it's embarrassing when you continually lose games when your team is stacked with 4-star recruits. I'm sure this is the year you guys finally turn the corner. Better do it now before Beard starts picking off all top-rated kids in Texas.

We have won more tourney games. Lol

You don't undedatand how recruiting works.

Players pick development over wins.

Only way Chris Beard has any chance is if he continues to produce NBA talent.

Recruiting takes a hit when players aren't going to the NBA more than if you aren't winning.

At the very least Shaka Smart has continued to keep Texas relevant in the minds of recruits.

He should bring in Greg Brown this year.
Greg Brown isn't even considering Tech and Chris Beard no matter how much they want him.

Last year Texas won the only head to head recruiting battle with Donovan Williams.

lol right!? And NC State has won more games. And VCU. And Dayton. And Butler. And San Diego State. And Saint Mary's. And Loyola Chicago. And Murray State. It's sad, really. But, mostly hilarious.

Yet recruiting hasn't taken a hit.
Texas still can recruit at a much higher level than any school in the state
You have to ask yourself what is more important in the minds of recruits.

All I'm saying is you are the quintessential underachieving program. As a fan, I'd think you would be a lot more excited about actually winning games than recruiting battles. But since you're not winning meaningful games, I can see why you have to resort to the recruiting angle.

Right. So, Tennessee was able to pull in 3 top 50 recruits because of Grant Williams and Texas Tech signed 2 top 50 guys simply because of Culver? You don't think winning is an important element?

I want to maintain our ability to recruit at the very least.
To me that is important and so far as bad as Shaka has been he has been able to do this.

So when we do find the next coach he doesn't have to rebuild our name.

Culver made a huge difference at Tech.
Before him and Smith Tech never had players go to the NBA and be drafted in the Top 15

That was 20 years ago.

You could easily negatively recruit their program because they weren't producing NBA talent.
Now you can't. The question becomes can Beard continue to turn out players.
Right now I think Shannon could be the only one.

Then don't say never.

I get it, though. Yes, recruits like to see models where a player coached under Shaka or Barnes, or whomever, had success. I don't doubt that Texas will continue to recruit well. Honestly, Texas should be in the top 10 in every sport. Just, seems like you can't possibly under-perform for that long. Beard has already pulled in a couple of major recruits, and I expect that trend to continue.

That is freaking awesome.

Do you think it hurts that DePaul plays 45 mins from campus?

They moved into a new downtown facility last year, WinTrust arena. very nice. An easy El train ride from Lincoln Park campus and an easy walk from the downtown campus. Playing all those years in Rosemont definitely hurt. It was a solid hour drive during rush hour.

You are delusional if you think Ramsey isn't a draft pick. Hopefully, he isn't injured too bad and can get back into the swing of things. I promise you we will have a player drafted before you this year and next.

I don't see it.
Ramsey is a good player but in terms of what the NBA is looking for he is a high second rounder at best.

Been telling you all off season.
We didn't even offer him and only reason he ended up there was because Chris Beard missed out on Donovan Williams.

No sir. You are incorrect. I follow our recruiting very closely and we were never in on Williams. Probably due to him being a heavy lean towards you. But, I never heard of him having any interest in us. Ramsey and Peavy have always been our main targets due to Beards connection to the Coach Peavy at Duncanville. Everyone else that we are starting to get noticed by is just due to our recent success for sure. Same for Brown. I'm sure we would die to have him, but you guys have been in on him for a long time. He has always been yours to lose.

Williams was from last year.
Beard really wanted him due to his length and ability to impact the game even without scoring.

Ramsey is a scorer but a scorer that doesn't have a great to elite shot.
If Ramsey is going to be in the NBA he has to become a better defender and shooter.

His upside is based around his shot

NBA drafts based on upside and not production.
Everyone in the NBA can be a scorer if they get enough shots.

ITT I learned that on-court results matter little when compared to winning the recruiting rankings (which is also not trending in Texas’ favor).

What are you even talking about...
Texas Tech has won in Austin once in the last 15-20 years.
Two great seasons doesn't change anything.

Recruiting...
You don't have a better roster. I think there is only one player on Texas besides the walk ons who isn't a Top 100 player.

Texas only has 1 open scholarship right now and that is going to Greg Brown who isn't deciding until May.
Most likely they won't have a single recruit until late unless someone is forced out or Kai Jones becomes an one and done.
