Coach K

Yep--healthy college athletes have to be in the bottom .001 % in the risk catagory.
They can spread the virus to at risk adults if they travel back home to the holidas to visit parents/grandparents/extended family or socialize with friends and transmit the virus throughout the community.

Exponential growth man, that's why we have 200,000+ cases a day that are documented.

Cory why're you such a cynic? Bilas was on record saying its a joke that the season is being played since there's no protocol in place with these athletes playing in indoor gyms. Our COVID problem is worse than in the Spring and these kids aren't playing in a bubble so they're contributing to a community spread issue.

All these sports are just plowing along ignoring medical experts to rake in as much TV revenue as possible. Dez tested positive for COVID yesterday and the game between the Ravens-Cowboys went on.
Do you have to ask why? Is starts with a K and ends with ski.

As a Duke fan, I get attempting to defend this bullshit. But this is the same guy who was against canceling the season because it would end the sport. You can't say the frustrations of actually having to coach a poor team to make them better didn't play a role in his comments. I don't think there is a reasonable person out there that thinks he would be saying this if he hadn't lost to two B1G teams at home in back to back weeks.

Hell, unc got bailed out by covid, why not Duke?

This years duke team is better than last years UNC squad. Losing at home 2 consecutive games convinced kay the season is over.

Yet he continues to roll his team out and play.

I am a ER nurse and have been on the frontline of this virus since March. I was in Manhattan, NY at Mount Sinai from March to May and am now down in DFW working.

Pro sports and college sports playing or not playing have virtually no impact on what is going on in this country during the pandemic. If they stop playing it will have no effect on what we see in the ER.

They are so isolated from the rest of the community and have virtually no impact on the rest of the community.

Nobody thinks this season is normal or feels right. No shit coach K. You are just being a whiny little bitch because your team sucks.
As an ER nurse you should know that these players are contributing to community spread since they're not confined to a bubble - they're free to attend large gatherings or visit family/relatives over weekend and holidays.

If Jalen Wilson infects his parents, they go out to a backyard barbeque and infect a dozen other people and those people infect others in the community, then we're looking at multiple people who could be hospitalized in an ICU due to the team playing.

I was in full support of the season going on in the summer but given how much the virus is surging now, we're hypocrites if we don't shut it down till we have the vaccine.

Aren't Kansas hospitals overflowing? I heard its really bad there.

I agree. And I am not defending it as much as there is a reason he is doing it. For the team, his players his staff, the sport. He made those comments not because he lost a couple of games. There is an alternative reason.
As if a young team losing to top 10 MSU and Illinois squads is something to be ashamed about.

Ya"ll should've just bet Illinois +4 yesterday, that was free money.

Duke, UK and KU will get better as the season goes on though I doubt they become title contenders.

I am impressed by KU so far, but Gonzaga is way better than anyone else maybe except for Baylor. The hope I have is that these Duke guys stay around for 2-3 years. I like Roach.

You are more likely to catch a virus in a classroom than playing basketball.

I was team shutdown before the football season. I’ll admit I was wrong. Those aren’t the people spreading it. It is the general public and students. Not athletes. They are in a relatively controlled environment and are isolated and forced to take precautions. It isn’t perfect. But none of this and to be 100% with you there is nothin we can do other than take precautions but continue with our life. It is what it is. It is going to run its course unless you want to literally shut everything down like New York did. That isn’t realistic to do to America. Give it time and run it’s course. Do your part and take precautions. College athletes aren’t the problem. They are tested regularly and in large part are asymptomatic. .

If you are worried about college athletes spreading the virus then students shouldn’t be on campus period.

Nah man....not buying it a bit. You really think these athletes are going to go home and spread it to at risk family members in greater numbers by
A: being in a controlled athletic environment with strict protocol and rules
B; have season halted or cancelled, no controlled athletic environment and protocols, and THEN going back home?

I mean--come on, use your brain. 95% of these athletes will be partying and hanging out and being exposed exponentially if not in athletic dept covid protocols. Its not really an opinion, just common sense and rational real world acceptance of what goes on.

I'm absolutely not worried about these young athletes who are in the prime of their life, I'm worried about their elderly parents/grandparents that they interact with, the older coaches in their program and them contributing to community spread that ends up infecting others at risk contributing to a chain reaction.

I agree that its not a huge vector of spread like large indoor gatherings but I'd like to know how often they're getting tested and what other precautions are being taken.

I take what coaches say very seriously and it sounds like K and some others are worried about how the season is progressing.

I am not worried about Coach K’s opinion when it comes to a virus. Your scenario isn’t realistic. College athletes aren’t interacting with their families. They are staying on campus over the holidays. Many of them have already contracted the virus. It isn’t new. It’s been around for a year. There aren’t very many reports of kids going home and infecting their families, if any reports at all.

You are just assuming every kid is going to be positive when he goes home when in large part most of them have already had it and are asymptomatic. Therefore they aren’t going to contract the virus again and spread it due to immunity and lack of symptoms.

College football is doing just fine with larger amount of players.

I didn’t say you were worried about the health of the athletes.

The last thing I’m worried about is coaches and sports media’s opinion the virus.

College athletes are following protocols, having everything wiped down for them, are isolated from family/students, tested daily and have very little symptoms. Transmission is minimal. Not an issue
Especially when students aren’t returning to campus following the thanksgiving break.

Only people on campus are athletes.

I’ll repeat, once again, with regard to transmission, the issue is the general population. Not college athletes.

Already hoops games cancelled this week and there are at least 10-15 football games cancelled each weekend. Believe me, I want football to be played as a fan of one of the 4 teams in the playoff, but there are no guarantees.

there has been football and basketball games cancelled all season. This isn’t anything new. And more will be cancelled. Maybe you guys don’t follow football?

If you aren’t expecting interruptions then you are going to be disappointed. There will be hiccups along the way but CBB and proceed just like CFB, MLB, NFL and NBA.

So does K become an advocate for cancelling the season?

Does the talking heads jump on the idea as he's right or shamelessly mock him?

Right now they are disagreeing with him.

Bilas will say anything to make the NCAA look bad. Why should they not play? If they shut down the sport then everything else should shut down as well. The are way less likely to catch it playing basketball than doing many other things they will do. I'm not for another shutdown so am not for avoiding playing either. I mean, UNC sucks as well so it isn't like I'm dying to watch them lose a bunch more games like last year.

K could have said this before. He is very calculated and smart about the words he uses and things he says. You can ignore the reasons why he said it now and I get it. But he has a track record of making excuses and not handling adversity well so it's fair to question his motives.

Nothing is different now than what has been going on for weeks. So there is no 'well, things have changed' argument. They really haven't. Only one thing has changed for K and Duke.

I follow football much more closely as I said, I am a supporter of a team in the playoff right now.

Wait. Are you saying it wasnt just K. Wonder when the Coach Pitino thread will start.
Pitino was saying it prior to the season starting. There probably is a thread from back then.

I think the difference is nobody listens to pitino like they do K.

Blue Devils Coach Mike Krzyzewski is 12-2 for his career in regional finals; the Jayhawks' Bill Self is 2-7.

Interesting how someone with 3 final four appearances is only 2-7 in the regional finals. Good work.

Btw, Self is 1-0 vs K in the regional finals.

And in this context that doesn't even matter. K is a crybaby who is one of the least gracious losers in the sport. Bob Knight handled losing more respectfully. Maybe he should stick to harassing kids from Oregon who beat him instead of trying to use a pandemic as an excuse for losing.

Yea that is an absolute dumpster fire. I could see him coming back for another year and extending his insurance policy.

Any NFL team can turn it around quickly with the right moves. Hell, the Chiefs went from 2-14 to 11-5 the next season by hiring Andy Reid and sigining Alex Smith of all people.

It could happen, but I don't think their is going to be a HoF coach out there for them to hire. Plus it's an organizational problem with the Jets. They are just a horribly run franchise.

Don’t worry...KU’s taking the heat for Zion, while Duke doesn’t even get investigated. Not only do you cheat your asses off, but you’re protected like a mega-bank.
As always, provide actual proof and you might get an actual response. Like, maybe pictures of his family going in and out of the supposed house in Durham. You dont think UNCheat fans and State fans didnt stalk that place. You are silly.

For years K has been excoriated for limiting his team’s pre-conference road games to eliminate unnecessary travel and risk during flu season. But yes, this is totally new behavior.

Keep grasping at straws, guys.

I appreciated this.

ITT we have a bunch of dudes joking and the worst poster on the board melting down because someone called K a hypocrite. Sounds about right.

Probably not, but they could significantly upgrade at coach and Lawrence has far more potential than Alex Smith.

There are texts between Nike reps discussing payment figures for Zion. Nike didn’t even deny the allegations.

Meanwhile, KU is going to be punished for discussing a player that didn’t even commit to them. While Duke/Nike aren’t even under investigation.

Seems legit, right, schmuck?
