Brad Stevens-One Of The Best Basketball Coaches Ever At Any Level!

He’s one of the top 2 coaches in the nba. Celtics hit the jackpot with him.

He is a really good coach. Just wish he could've gotten one more basket in his college coaching career.

Wouldn’t have made a difference against UConn. ; )

I can’t imagine any type of player that would not want to play for Stevens.

He definitely seems like a good dude.

As for the one basket I was referencing you will enjoy this. A buddy of mine who is a big Duke fan had us tickets for a practice round at Augusta. So we went down there and spend the day (which was just ridiculous of course) and on the way back I had a computer hooked up in the passenger seat so he could keep track of the title game against Butler. Hayward literally missed the last shot as he was pulling into my driveway to drop me off.

Butler's 2010 run was bullshit, but he's a phenomenal coach.

Who’s the other, Kerr?
Tough for me to get on board with him. They were something like 29-2 when Walton coached them a couple years ago, and 12-0 with Mike Brown in the playoffs last year.

And he was also the coach who blew the 3-1 lead to the Cavs.

Thinking very few coaches would not have the same success he's had with GS.

as I've said, for my money, give me guys who have shown they can do more with less, like Snyder, Stevens or even Larry Brown

Agreed, OP. He’s one of my favorites. Wish he would’ve stayed at the college level longer, cause he would done incredibly well. Can’t blame him for coaching the pros, though. He’s amazing.

If Stevens takes this team to the finals IMO he’ll be no worse than a top 3 coach. He’s on the verge of a very big pay day and if you’re a fan or not you have to be impressed in what he’s done.

He’s doing so much with so little. It’s absolutely crazy. Who’s the best player? 31 year old Al Horford? Guy who almost got cut Terry Rozier? 2nd year player Jaylen Brown? Rookie Jayson Tatum? Crazy

Don’t see him going to a top college program anytime soon. That includes previously-mentioned Duke. Coach K will keep it in the “family”.

College coaches that go to the NBA only come back to college when they get fired. Stevens isn't going to be fired anytime soon, that's for certain.

Stevens ain't better than Kerr. Stop it. Rondo don't get hurt last year they lose to the 8 seed Bulls in the first round. However what he has done with this team after losing their two elite players is super impressive.

He's probably 3 or 4 right now. Pop and Kerr are the top 2. Carlisle is really really good too, but the Mavs are shit.

Been thinking about this and I was one who thought Stevens was among the best.....however, after more thought, I'd love for someone to factually explain why Stevens is a great coach, but Casey is so awful. Neither has gotten by Lebron (though Stevels lost to Atlanta, while I believe only Lebron has knocked out casey), neither has so far made a Finals, and each has been a #1 seed in the East.

I get Stevens lost his 2 best players (though that's debatable as tatum is a stud). I still think the Boston roster is better than Toronto. Top 4 in no order I'd say are Horford, tatum, Derozan and Lowry. Next 4 are probably Brown, Rozier, Smart and JV. 5 of 8 are Boston. If you think Ibaka belongs, still 5 of 9 Boston.

If Toronto lost their 2 best, they are left with JV, Anunoby, Ibaka, Wright, Milkes and van Vleet. Not exactly, Horford, Tatum, Brown, smart, Morris and Rozer is it?

Is he living off his Butler "success"

At least when it comes to Xs & Os. What he did at Butler, and what he has done with the Celtics, is tremendous! Be honest. How many times have you folks actually seen him get out-coached?
never because when it's a coach people like they say it's the players, or lack of, when a team loses.

Should they get swept or lose 4-1 to the Cavs it will be because he didn't have Lebron....but same is true of casey and he'll be ridiculed and fired.

Casey shouldn't be fired. I think it's ridiculous that they were the one seed and having an awful series could be the end for him.
However, the Raptors had the second best record in the NBA. They have a history of choking. This year was supposed to be different. Instead they get swept by the worst LeBron led Cavs team in a decade. They choked in game one and two. Tried to come back game 3 only to let LeBron have the ball and the game and quit last night. It's not a good look at all.

Just curious...since this is the worst Cavs team in a decade with Lebron, does that mean Lue will get credit if they make the Finals?

Lue didn't get credit when they came back against the Warriors in 16. I don't know why this year would be any different tbh. Everyone says it's LeBron's team. For better and worse.

Stevens and Lue are in exact opposite situations. If the Cs lose, Stevens will take no blame and it will be because his players were out. If Lue wins, he'll get no credit and it will be because of the players. Stevens wins, and he gets all the credit. Lue loses, and he gets all the blame. Let's not forget, if not for Rondo's injury last year, it's likely a healthy Cs team goes down to the 8 seed.

I think Stevens is an awesome coach, but the thing that gets me is people acting like he's coaching the 2013 Sixers. Tatum is a top 5 pick. Jaylen Brown top 5 pick. Horford top 5 pick that got a max contract. Rozier was right outside the lottery. That team is probably a top 5 roster in the NBA pre-injury. Lue isn't a great coach, but you really can't prove it one way or the other with Lebron on the team. He has a ring though which a lot of other coaches can't say so /shrug.

I think Lue is like most....nothing special. Give him talent and he can win. Don't and he wont.

I was on the stevens bandwagon thinking he has done more with less. But has he? That roster, as you mentioned, is pretty loaded. Even without Kyrie and GH.

Stevens before this year you could say has done a good job with less. This year you can't say that at all. There are probably 15-20 teams that would LOVE to have their starting lineup, even after losing Irving and Hayward.

And what's weird is I think this season he's getting all the credit for doing more with less because Kyrie and Heyward went down. But now we see Rozier is a very good player and my guess is if he's not already, Tatum will be better than Heyward.

Ok what's your point? The Celtics are going to be in the ECF again and their young players have developed like crazy throughout the year under Steven's watch.

Rozier is an absolute killer and Tatum is already as good as Hayward and perhaps better. Do you not credit Stevens for their development at all?

Stevens' out of bounds plays he draws up after timeouts is legendary. Just look at Game 3, Marcus Morris was about to take a bad fadeaway long 2 and Stevens quickly called a TO to get the ball into Horford's hands so he could post Covington up.

Most coaches wouldn't have the guts to call a TO there because they're afraid of letting the opposing defense reset.

Dude are you serious? Every NBA team is filled with all former 1st Rounders. GTFO here with Tatum being a "top 5 pick" as if that matters. All the cons about him coming out of Duke have proven to be wrong. Brad Stevens has turned a wing player who specialized in mid range isos coming out of college into an all around offensive threat who's learned how to initiate contact and hit 3s at a comfortable clip. He's a versatile wing defender too.

I want Stevens to fail over the next few years in the NBA... so he'll come back to college ball and coach for Syracuse.

Kerr isn't even in the top 5 conversation. Mike Brown and Luke Walton led the Warriors to nearly a perfect record while they were leading the team. He's basically struck gold and can now sit back and enjoy all the underserved accolades he gets.

It's like a sales guy who nails a huge account that sells for him every month or a kid with a trust fund dad that he knows he can tap into down the line.

Reading comprehension still not a strong suit of yours I see. I said people are treating this Celtics team like the tank era 76ers. When in fact they are a super talented team, even with injuries.
Tatum has been excellent. I'd say his development along with Rozier is gonna give Ainge some real interesting scenarios to make a move this summer.

LOL. Mark Jackson had them stalled out and losing early in the playoffs and Kerr comes in and they revolutionize the NBA. Curry was a small injury prone guard. Thompson was only a catch and shoot guy. Green was a second round bench guy. Even before Durant came in and ruined the NBA for every other team Kerr turned them around into a championship team from day one. If you are gonna give Stevens credit for his players improving Kerr sure as he deserves some for the improvements their whole team has made.
If that team was as good as everyone seems to believe it was when he took over Mark Jackson would have never have been fired to begin with.

I'm not implying he isn't a good/great coach, but Lue has called some great OOb plays, as well.....how about even winning 2 games with the same one against Minnesota and then Indiana in the playoffs. Always helps when the players execute. And, yes, it was Ty who did the unconventional and had Lebron go length of court and not take it out at half court.

But he never gets credit.

I would credit him. But Tatum was a top 3 pick. Not like it should be a huge surprise.

I'll ask again (and if answered my apologies)....how is he so much different than Casey?

Neither has gotten past Lebron as of yet
Neither has been to the Finals
Each has been a #1 seed
Casey has ONLY lost to Lebron, while Stevens also lost to Atlanta

On this I agree 100%. Stevens is far better than Kerr.

In fact, one can often see Kerr do as you mentioned....sit back on the bench and just smile. I'm assuming he knows how lucky he is.
