Azubuike out

Embiid was supposed to be back for the tournament too. And then he wasn’t.
As we've seen since he's been in the NBA, dude had a lot more injury problems than he ever let on. I doubt that's the case here. Azubuike has been pretty healthy for the most part, hasn't he?

I hate hearing about players getting injured right before the NCAA Tournament. That sucks.

We're on the same page here. How many times did we hear that Embiid would be back in time for the tournament a few years ago? I can't help but to be pessimistic right now. We've seen this thing before and it hasn't ended well.

Sounds like he will be back for the tournament, which is all that matters.
I hope he is back but my immediate thought was to Kenyon Martin and how I bet Cincinnati wished they hadn't told everyone the severity of his injury before the selection show. They got dinged pretty bad because he was out.

Um.....Cincinati was a 2 seed in that tourney. Don't think that would be considered dinged badly.

5 th consecutive year KU has one of their best players missing or injured in the NCAA tournament.

And they had the #1 RPI in the nation and their only losses prior to their conference tournament loss were by 2 points to a 20 win crosstown rival in Xavier and an 8 point loss at fellow 2 seed Temple. They still had the best resume in college basketball and should have been the top 1 seed if the committee went off of resume.

Fair points, however being downgraded 1 seed isn't what i would call being badly dinged. I would think that would be something like UNLV in 92-93 who was ranked 25th in the country, not getting invited to the NCAA tourney when Isiah Rider was ruled ineligible. That was a 6-7 seed not getting invited at all. That would be my defenition.

I get what you are saying. I live in Cincinnati and still have UC fans telling me about how they got shafted almost 20 years later so that slants my view a bit.

I’m good one way or the other ;) but I do feel for the kid and KU if he can’t go

Duke has had injuries kill seasons more times than I care to remember. Seems like it’s Duke, UK and KU that get hit with deveatating injuries most often. Maybe I’m being shortsighted with those 3 schools but it sure seems that way to me. It sucks.

I think UNC fans would certainly disagree with that. I would argue they have had as many as anyone historically. I think most all teams probably get hit to some degree though. The blue bloods just tend to generally be contenders so they are more memorable. I mean, it doesn't really matter when some 9 seed has a guy go out.

Tomorrow isn't going to be pretty. KU is going to get their ass kicked tomorrow. OSU is better or at least they have been against KU this season. I think KU comes out flat with no energy. The chances of them looking disinterested tomorrow are high. As our guys just go through the motions, the Pokes will run our guys off the floor and they won't be looking back.

I highly doubt KU comes out disinterested... Do you think they want to lose 3 games in one season to anyone, let alone the 8th place team in the Big 12? No. Bill wont even have to mention it, the Jayhawks will be ready to play.

I fully expect a battle.

It could be a battle but it won't be a battle until KU is trailing by at least 12-15 points. Personally I love the way OSU is playing. I like how gritty they are and most of all they aren't willing to just settle. I do expect Graham, Svi, and Newman to carry the weight tomorrow. After the Pokes won in Lawrence, it's been one helluva run for OSU. They are playing great at the right time of the year.

When I read the update on Dok, my first thought was the Embiid situation a few years back. How many times did we hear Self say there was a good chance Embiid would be back for the next game. When Embiid didn't play in the next game, Self once again tried to keep everyone hopeful by saying we hope to get Embiid back sooner than later.

This situation certainly feels like the Joel Embiid deal all over again. I agree with your other though on getting curb stomped tomorrow. The game maybe close for a while but eventually I look for OSU to beat the piss out of us. I wished like hell I felt different but between getting sh*thoused in Stillwater in the season finale and the announcement of Azubuike's injury, tomorrow has disaster written all over it.

Absolutely agree. My stomach dropped when I read Dok was out. I’m trying to remain optimistic, but losing our best, and most intimidating presence in the post, at this time of year, is an absolute disaster scenario. Just like Embiid, everything will change from this point forward. I’m already having anxiety, and our games haven’t even started yet.

As of this moment I’m not excited at all to watch the KU/OSU game this afternoon. Maybe as the day goes I’ll start feeling differently. As far as the optimism of Dok being ready by next week, I’m not buying it. I find it hard to believe a weeks time that Dok will be healthy regarding his sprained knee.

Normally I’m really optimistic and at times I’m optimistic to a fault, but I don’t see KU stealing a win today. One other thing, as long as Legerald Vick plays, KU will be playing 4 on 5 since Vick elects to not do anything.

Different places mention different recovery times for a grade 1 MCL sprain. One site says 1-2 weeks and another says 2-6 week. My guess is he'll be reevaluated after the Big 12 tourney. I honestly don't expect him back to Sweet 16 at the earliest. I don't see KU making it that far though without Doke. He was the one loss KU couldn't have along with Graham.

I ate a few helpings of crow today. Didn't taste the best but I was more than happy to do it since KU played much better than I expected.
