Im not really impressed. There were half a dozen better candidates. Looks like we struck out with our top choices and were left with our plan D or E. That's pretty typical of us though

Beard your plan A?
Rick Pitino plan B?
You should be happy Arkansas isn't hiring Fran McCaffery or Richard Pitino, because they would end up worse than Bert.

Beard was Plan A initially, but as he continued to win we knew that wasn't happening. Had he lost first or second round we might have had a shot.

My list was Marshall, Sampson, Matta, and maybe longshot an offer to Self or Donovan. Who knows, either may be looking for a way out if the seat is hot.

Guess Im just not impressed with the hire is all

The SEC is going to Beni joke going forward. Lots of good coaches in the league now

You gotta be joking.
Matta could be had, I'd think. Maybe Sampson, too.
Other names are bigger pipe dreams than Beard.

Self will likely leave Kansas soon enough. He wanted the Arkansas job before he took Kansas. Just saying. But regardless I said they were longshots.

Marshall was not a pipe dream. We had him on campus and made an offer, but he wanted a longer contract than we were willing to give.

If Arkansas offered him $6M/year, I could see him taking it.

He probably would've taken 4.5. But just found out we paid muscle man 2.5, so im sure the BOTs and donors just didnt want to pony that kind of money for Marshall. We are still paying Bert and Jeff Long

Self would go home to Oklahoma State over Arkansas...

Oklahoma St has the money and the potential to win at the same level as Arkansas.
T Boone would give Self a Green Parrot

Self would not leave Kansas to go to another Big 12 school before another conference.

Jesus man are you on every board talking shit about the hire?

If he was going to leave Kansas he would have left already.

Why wouldn't he go to another Big 12 school?
He is from Oklahoma and Oklahoma St is his alma mater.
You don't think T Boone and Oklahoma St would write the check you are crazy.

That’s not what I said. I just think semantic wise, it’d be incredibly stupid.

I'm good with Musselman. I feel much better about this hire than I did the football hire. I think Arkansas is in a good spot right now with both the football and basketball programs. They are not overpaying for either coach like they were (still are) with Bielema.

I learned today that Mussleman's wife was attractive.

Seems like he is a better college coach than pro coach. Calipari likes him.

According to University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari, "Eric is one of the best in our sport. Extremely driven and knowledgeable. I've watched and coached against him in the NBA and FIBA games. He has an uncanny feel for the game, and ability to read where the game is at. More importantly, is his ability to motivate and teach his players what it takes to improve and win. He is as good as it gets."

He has potential to do good things at Arkansas. He will bring a ton of transfers.

I post on the Arkansas board. I guess they don't carry over.

So you pay for this?

I don't post over there. Not sure where you've seen me then.

And Im not talking shit here. Im talking shit on boards where they get their panties in a bunch real easily. I think we could've done better but Muscle Man is solid from what I can tell.

I agree its better than the CM hire.

Changing the subject how can you feel good about football? Did you watch the spring game? It was pretty hard to watch IMO. We may not be better than last year

Mussleman is a great hire imo. Not sure why all the griping about it is happening.

Because the SEC is as tough now as it has been in years, and he hasn't really accomplished much in his career, especially at the collegiate level.

Fans typically get more excited when they can see a coach's past accomplishments versus trying to see a coach's potential.

I agree, but I think he’ll do a great job there. If they’ll just give him a shot I bet it pays off.

I’m going into football with a similar feel as I did last year. It is not going to be good. Im not sold on Hicks and I think that is what we will be stuck with. I’m hanging my hopes on Starkel being able to come in and compete.

After this signing class though I think Morris has earned a “where are we in year 4?” Kind of deal.
