Arizona Self-Imposes One-Year Postseason Ban.

Hopefully this is the only year that gets a postseason ban. P12 needs a relevant Arizona.

With the NCAA, anything is possible. However, those were some pretty serious allegations. I'm guessing there will be some recruiting restrictions and possibly another year of postseason ban.

This is the year to self ban===for sure.

Me and my friend argue weekly about whether we should self impose. It seemed to do us no favors last time, and personally I feel like we might have the best team this year then we will have the next 2-3 but that’s IF we lose guys early.

He just wants to get it out of the way and hope covid wipes out the tourney again smh. Which granted no better time to ban than when the tourneys canceled ala Gtech.

What a crock of shit. Kind of like a criminal saying they wont rob for a year or sell drugs for a year.

I like how these programs (Auburn and Arizona) have made these decisions once the season has already started and they've had plenty of time to evaluate their teams and realize they aren't going to be very good anyway. It's an especially shitty thing to do to the new recruits and I am sure it wasn't mentioned while recruiting them...

I mean, everyone and their mother knew that Arizona was going to get hit. That's why a lot of their players left and that's why they signed 7 players last class. And 5 of them were international players. The coaches and the players have been preparing for this. It was only a matter of time.

Yes, it is obvious they will get hit by the NCAA eventually, but it wasn't going to happen this year.

Sure, but none of their players are 1 and done guys. Some of them only got the opportunity to sign with U of A because of the looming sanctions.

Of course it is all about perspective. If I were a current freshman, I'd rather not have the opportunity to make it to the Tournament this year (in a year that doesn't count towards eligibility) and hope that it gives them the opportunity to do so later in their careers.

Yea the thing is there NEVER a good time to take it whether it’s self imposed or handed down, it sucks. But it’s obv the only effective penalty the ncaa has and as long as the P5 want to bow down to the ncaa, it is what it is.

If they are unlikely to make the tourney anyways, what effect does it have on the current players? Missing the conf tourney and chance to fight for a spot? Sure I’ll give you that but that would be better than taking one when u have a top 10 team.

Yup, the idea that the players who committed no crime get punished is BS.

Coaches and administrations need to be the ones that get punished more severely.

Saw an article on yahoo calling out programs pulling self ban... I know LSU football at 3-5 was a joke but I will say AZ is 7-1 I haven't seen them play I know they lost a lot of guys.

Part of what makes the post season ban harmful is the NCAA had typically also allowed transfers without penalty. Not really possible mid-season. But I guess with the change to allow a one-time transfer for everyone this point will be moot.

Arizona might as well get it over with. They don't need this looming over them forever. Rip the bandaid off

Did they make the one time transfer thing official or did covid force the ncaas hand to grant everyone a waiver this year. I feel like people def had to wait for their waiver and some got it very late like nemhard for zags and Murphy for uva, which of the transfer rule was already in place wouldn’t have been an issue.

Good question. Might have just been for this year (COVID), but I could have sworn they were voting on a permanent change. Oh well. Either way, I’m generally not a fan of the mid-season self imposed ban.

Oh I think it’s a total cop out but if the ncaa allows it then I think schools who aren’t gonna make the tourney and are staring down the barrel of the NCAA anyways, why not.

Just like Gtech got credit last year when there was no postseason. Fair? Not at all. Boss move? Without question.

This self policing is a crock of shit. The school and head coach need to be fined, a quite large fine at that.

Do something NCAA or move aside and let a different governing body patrol.

Arizona is still playing basketball like nothing happened. Oh big whoop, one missed tourney...

It’s almost like the ncaa moves super slowly as like a long term form of punishment of the cloud hanging over the head of the program for 2-3 years awaiting the decision. Hell you could argue it’s worse than the actual penalties like scholarship loss etc. tourney ban is about all they got. Your right they should start taking aim at checkbooks instead of players 3-4 years later who likely had nothing to do with it anyways.

I would shoot for a fine totalling 50% of their income.

I hate teams opting out, but Arizona is being investigated over paying a player that is in his 3rd year of the NBA. The NCAA takes way too long to hand out punishments.
