It’s an old Big 8 thing. No idea why.Refer to themselves as the KU instead of UK?
I had never noticed/thought about that.It seems to be a thing from the old Big 8 teams:
OU - University of Oklahoma
CU - University of Colorado at Bolder
KU - University of Kansas
NU - University of Nebraska
MU - University of Missouri
They're all otherwise "University of" Then you had the 3 other schools that University came last.
Iowa State University
Kansas State University
Oklahoma State University

Well, the latter three have "State University" in their names. You wouldn't want to be "State University of Kansas", or "SUK", now, would you?It seems to be a thing from the old Big 8 teams:

The pattern doesn't seem to be limited to schools that were part of the old Big 8, but does seem to be a regional one. The University of Tulsa refers to itself as "TU", and the University of Denver refers to itself as "DU".
I have to ask myself that question often! 😂Uh, yeah I was completely incorrect. Where the hell did I get MY information 😂
