Because the "Champions" classic tends to give them enough high end competition with the rest of their OOC schedule.
.....and AU has been title-less forever. In that same period, UK has gone 98-23 vs AU.
If I had to guess that will change in the coming seasons under Pope. Cal was very against early season tournaments, for whatever reason.

Kentucky is in bottom half of SEC revenue. You probably allocate more NIL for basketball but as athrltic department you do not come close to gemersting what Auburn does

Besides playing either fuke, KU or MSU in the champions classic, UK is slso in theCBS classic with UNC, UCLA and Ohio State.
The 2 years (and this year), UK also has/played Gonzaga.

For Auburn fans, basketball didn’t actually begin until 2015, so this definitely makes sense for you.
The rest of the college basketball world knows the history of the sport and knows titles and Final 4's did hapoen prior to 2000.
