Whats the status? Any updates on him? Is he leaving after this year or do you think he'll return next year?

Up to him, obviously, but sounds like he's likely to make his debut against Florida on Saturday.

Fans are getting restless, but the kid clearly has a lot of people in his ear, telling him not to play.

It’s a tough spot, but he’d have to be awesome in workouts to get a guaranteed deal if he doesn’t play.

I’m kinda indifferent. I want to see him play, but I don’t want to panic every time he hits the floor.

The coaching staff is just waiting for Vanderbilt to say he's good to go. The players said he's a beast in practice. Here's a mix tape of him. Good handle and athletic and able to play the point. I think he's listed at 6'9" now.

If Vanderbilt wants to play and is cleared medically will people consider Cal selfish or a terrible person for playing him?
It's not up to Calipari. He's said over and over Vanderbilt will play when he's ready.

You might as well ask UK fans if they think Calipari is a terrible person for not making him play. Vanderbilt is medically cleared and he's the one choosing to not play, maybe he just building confidence in his ankle.

One thing for sure. Calipari is coaching the players that are playing. Its up to Vanderbilt if he wants to be a part of that.

Well it is up to Calipari even if Vanderbilt says he's ready, Cal can choose not to play him which is what we heard about Giles all last season.

College sports have definitely changed, players not wanting to play in football and basketball nowadays. If you love the game, then you get an insurance policy and play.

apples and oranges. Vanderbilt is clear. Calipari wants him to play. Vanderbilt is the one choosing to not play. No way does this relate to Giles.

oh really? that's ****ed up, Giles wanted to play but then again he hadn't played competitive basketball since his junior year of high school.

I just read that the Alabama player that shoved a coach during the championship game is off to Tennessee State.

Yeah it's not to do with Calipari. It's all on if Vanderbilt wants to get the pussy out of his manhood.

Calipari can't force him to play. What's he gonna do? Take away his scholarship? It's all on Vanderbilt.

As fun as it it to mock the coach and make jokes, this has nothing to do with Calipari.

Strange situation---Ive never in my life played with a competitor that voluntarily holds himself out of competition once he has been cleared---sounds like he might have plenty of outsiders in his ear. If he was my teammate, id tell him to sack up---we need you. Esp since he is practicing

Agreed, but I think what @tw3301 is saying is that a lot of UK fans mocked K for playing Giles and calling him selfish for playing him. It would seem hypocritical for them to want to play Vanderbilt as well.

They're leaving it up to Vanderbilt to play when he's ready. Listen or read any of the post/pre game interviews from the coaches and assistant coaches. They want him to play, but leaving it up to him to decides when he's ready.

I wasn't around much last season, but It seems he was forced to play. Which is the opposite of Vanderbilt.

Being two Duke fans are bring up Giles, those UK fans must have really got to you and you're forcing that debate in with Vanderbilt which couldn't be more different.

Also an ankle isn't exactly the same as a recurring knee injuires that require surgeries. Some of you are trying too hard to tie this in to Duke's mistake with Giles.

BTW, where is Giles. Haven't heard much from him. His ESPN box score reads "no stats available". Maybe he was rushed back to the court too soon by K?

Before you attack me, just note that you guys are the one's that put Vanderbilt and Giles in the same conversation. One was rushed to come back and the other is on his own timeline.

Huh? Who was forced to play?

lol... how do you force someone to play basketball? Also how does it seem that way, because he wrote an article in the players tribune saying he wanted to play and it was his decision? I just wanted to point out the hypocrisy, I guarantee the same people that bitch about Vanderbilt not wanting to play were calling out K for "forcing" Giles to play.

There is no hypocrisy. It's all made up in some Duke's fans minds wanting to tie Vanderbilt to Giles. No one outside of this thread are comparing the two.

I'm surprised Giles come up in this thread. Duke fans brought him up.

Some are REEEAAAACCCHHING itt.

Still sore about someone's post from last year.

Again, who was forced to play? I'm all ears.

You seem pretty rustled yourself, spent 4 posts in a row responding to my question. It's not that big of a deal man, just wondering why people would be disappointed at Vanderbilt deciding not to play but advocating for Giles to sit out last year.

Sounds like Vanderbilt is tailoring his game after another famous Calipari player, Derrick Rose.

Not a good look for Vanderbilt.

If a player, any player for any school, receives a scholarship to play basketball, then he should play basketball. That's on the coach if the player is healthy enough to play. If he's not healthy to play for that season, then redshirt them. If they never play for the university, then they should pay back the scholarship. One and dones is one thing, but using a college as a rehab before launching an nba career, is just wrong.

I pretty much agree, I mean you're taking up a scholarship that could have been used by someone else who wanted to play.

Doesn't matter in this case. UK only has 11 scholarship players on the roster, including 3 other combo forwards.

That has been the word also, lots of people in his ear.

Nope it was a good post since you responded with a deflection RollLaugh
