Want to speak on what OU does on the defensive side with Young. They do one of 2 things.
1. They run zone and put him deep in the corner. Most energy he has to exert on defense here is hold his hand up. Most teams don't attack him because they're in zone. Might get a decent 3pt look but most are deterred by anyone being close. You can have success against OU with good ball movement because Young will not rotate.
2. When in man-2-man they will switch him off the ball. When he happens to get stuck on a ball handler OU will send a big man to shadow Young and deter any drive or they will flat out send a double team to get the ball out of that players hands.
They do not want Young expending any energy if he can on the defensive end. I've honestly never seen that before. With their need for him on offense it works.

BYU did that with Jimmer (very similar usage rates, too). I suppose you could argue they did it more so because his defense was so bad. But their defense was designed to let Jimmer mostly rest on d.... probably didn't help his cause in sustaining an NBA Career, though. But Trae Young is one of a kind. Not sure we'll ever see another P5 player in our lifetime contribute so much to the success of an offense.
Might be wrong here but I don't think he was projected as a lottery pick before season but I've seen him consistently marked as a top 8 pick. He owes Kruger some cash
