The SEC is shaping up to be a tough Conference

We would probably hire Hurley, so we would continue to kick y'all's ass and additionally be rude to you.

You know, I have always been a Cal fan even when he was y'all's coach. I always respected him.
i don't recall ever losing to Danny Hurley.

Also, if you want him to be your coach, you'll need to move the entire university of Tennessee to the Northeast, he isn't leaving there.

fun to speculate who we'd hire. probably wouldn't be a great coach sitting at a p4 school like TJ Otzelberger, someone like Brad Brownell would could probably lure away. I'd be more sure it'd be a mid major coach like Bucky McMillan or the guy at Furman

It was a joke, Jeff. I wouldn't want Hurley, but since he is the "best &$*!# coach ever", I mentioned him. Right nw, we got Barnes and I like that.

Yeah, the formula that seems to work is finding the young mid major coach that has been beating good teams with less, a guy that uses analytics and has bigtime passion for winning. looking at Nate Oates, Dusty may and Kelsey at Louisville, those are great hires.
Heck, the guy at Vanderbilt is looking really good too.
Brad Brownell, meh, he had 1 good run, other than that, he hasn't proven anything that makes him worthy of the Tennessee job.
I'll admit, once Cal got canned, I was excited to watch the coaching search. I'm glad we have Pope, but at first, I didn't think he had the chops for this job, I was way wrong.

You still are wrong. He hasn't completed a season. It is still too early to make any judgements on Pope.

Regarding post Barnes, who knows.

LOL, yeah, that guy wants the spotlight, until he gets caught doing/saying something stupid, then he complains about being on camera all the time.
That guy is the worst type of guy to have success, he is a mess between the ears and now, he thinks he's the greatest coach ever, so he goes bonkers at the very first sign of struggle, because he thinks he has it all figured out.
He couldn’t survive in the SEC, it's a big fishbowl and the lights are too bright, he'd spin himself into the ground.

He is self inflicting wounds to himself. He comes off as a big narcissist.

LOL, what? How can I be wrong about Pope being a good coach? He’s already shown what he can do and he is driven to improve every day. That’s all you can ask for.
We've been stuck with a guy that refused to listen to anyone, had mailed it in years ago and wasn't interested in adapting to the game, so having Pope is a huge relief, no matter what he does the rest of this year.
He may never win a title, that would suck, but he understands UK and nobody is going to outwork him. To me, a coach that gives 100% heels a lot of wounds.

That'd be a rough draw for UT in the 2nd round

I have no idea if Middle Tenn will ultimately be in the tourney this year, but if they are, would love to see them paired with UT in the first round.

UK has been paired in the first round with Eastern KY and Western KY universities a few times. Never a fan of having to play an in-state school in the tourney (unless it is UL, as UK just owns them).

Mid Tenn is going to win their conference. We'd probably have to drop to a 4 or 5 seed to play them

if this were today UT would draw the Clemson/Georgia winner that'd be a very tough 2nd round draw
Well, it won't be, but the tourney is set up to be tough. We can beat anybody and lose to anybody. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Sounds like Jordan Gainey is not playing tomorrow. We have zero chance to win without him, he is probably our 2nd best scorer. Just awful news, and I hate to be that guy but I think we are not playing him to use as an excuse for why we lost.

why isnt he playing? Sounding like Broome will give it a go with limited minutes

What happened to Gainey? Apologize if it’s mentioned above… don’t feel like reading.

It's honestly really weak shit from Gainey. If we lose we lose it's all fair game, but you can't stop the excuses from many (the ones on twitter) especially if we lose by a close margin
Should be a close game for sure. A little worried about UT rebounding ability and defense. UT is elite defensively, so is Auburn though. Big factor is how the refs call the game as well. If they swallow whistles and let it be a more physical game I think it favors UT. I’m not sure if I want Broome to try and play or not. I’d rather him get back 💯 healthy than rush him back. Looking forward to a good game.

I personally think the only way it's close would be if Broome didn't play and Gainey played. To win Gainey and Lanier would both have to have 20 a piece and likely a big game from Milicic too

Milicic needs to have a big game IMO. If this game were in Knoxville, I’d feel way different. It’s incredibly tough to win in Auburn. No homer

Have we seen the last of Kentucky dominance in the SEC? They’ve been caught up with from most of their conference teams. I never thought that Kentucky would dominate the SEC year in and year out, but it’s been a while since they have. The problem with them is that it’s losing ground on the football side of it. I guess they are a volleyball school now? Vanderbilt should be their rival in both sports moving forward.

Not your best troll attempt.

Yeah, but did Louisville ever have any kind of dominance in any league they were in?

Duke and NC don't win the ACC every year anymore, UVA was king for a bit, but now, the conference is so weak and with NC fading, it's Duke and a bunch if also rans.

Every one other than the ACC, and that’s coming shortly.

UK got rid of the problem, you won't win championships when your coach is prioritizing something else.
But lets not get it twisted, UK, during Cal's tenure, won more SEC regular season and tournament titles than everyone else.
But, with the transfer portal and NIL, it will be a turnstyle in the SEC, nobody is going to dominate and with the depth of the league growing each year and unbalanced scheduling, don't be surprised to see Missouri win it one year, Ole Miss win it the next and UK win the next.
I'm not sure we have ever seen a league this strong and deep, but I like where UK is at with Mark Pope and I wouldn't be surprised if they're back on top as early as next year.
