Some great high school games on ESPN 2 on 11/12

To start of the night at 7 you have Mikey Williams vs MJ Rice and Oak Hill. Then the real thriller is Chet Holgrem and his team take on the newly formed YPSI Prep that is just loaded with top 100 recruits in all classes, headlined by Emoni Bates, and then to end the night you have Air Nado with Jaden Hardy take on CDC with Amari Bailey and Bronny James.

I’m basketball deprived so I’ll definitely tune if, especially for the later two.

The 2 MSU guys doing great right now. Really impressed with Jaden Akins. Kid is showing off that jumper. Hw might be leading them in scoring.

Emoni is getting doubled teamed every time he touches the ball, but he has had really nice touch on some layups and his 3 is so pure.

What else can you expect. There are a lot of 4 star guys trying to improve their rankings. It’s par for the course with highly ranked high school basketball.
 
Indiana high school basketball is still the best in the country and it isn’t close

A lot of players on YPSI prep aren’t from Michigan anyways. I would say a very small percentage are actually. YPSI prep also doesn’t play Michigan high schools.
 
Chet has looked better than Emoni so far, but YPSI Prep has not guy that can guard Chet. He’s gotten so many put backs, but I’m really impressed with his ball skills for a 7 footer, I’ve never seen anything like it.

Emoni is clearly very talented but seems to be forcing it more than Chet is.

Shawn Philips, a guy ranked 51st in the 22’ class, looks absolutely awful. I don’t mean to crap on a kid, but to a viewer who knew nothing I wouldn’t think he was anywhere near the top 150.

Have you been watching the whole time? He was on fire early, didn’t miss his first few shots. He’s hit some nice shots throughout the game. I think he still has an above 50% field goal percentage.


This is not the kind of team I would think he would be successful against. He’s known for his driving, and I have been positively surprised with his shooting. I haven’t gotten the “chucker” impression at all throughout this game.

Turned it on at halftime
 
Neither of these teams are great defensively, but at least Sizzle has Chet. YPSI Prep’s defense is just terrible.

Looking forward to see Frankie Collins hopefully doing that. He's underrated on Rivals. Would be cool if he steals some spotlight next game.

Yeah I’m going to keep it on. Hardy and Frankie will be a nice back court.

Im really excited for the 21 classes for both of our schools. Going to be some great battles on the upcoming years.
 
Dillion Hunter has been pretty bad. He’s ranked in the top 50 for 2022, so clearly the kid has talent.

Must admit I thought Akins changed his jersey from 0 to 1 while the camera was away for a minute. Those two looked similar.

Thought they said Emoni once made 70 straight threes. Yeah, that one seems a bit too much. I could see 30 in a row tho.
 
This would be considered an off game for Bates and he still got 36/10 on 50% from the floor. Chet was the better player tonight but Chet is also 18, Emoni is 16.

I thought Hunter was Akins to start the game haha, although those 2 had very different nights.
 
Akins is quicker than I thought he’d be. I think he’ll end up being really good

I was a little disappointed in bates. He’s obviously really good, but I’m not seeing the lebron/ Kobe level, generational talent. I still think his ceiling is really high, but his floor is merely solid

I was really impressed with Chet. he clearly needs to gain a ton of weight, but his game is extremely well rounded

This wasn’t a great night for Bates compared to what he’s done in the past against good competition. Still, 36/10 on 50 from the field is damn good.

I think it is a little under talked about how this was YPSI Prep’s first game, and Chet and team Sizzle had played games before tonight. I think you could tell, Team Sizzle looked like more of a Team.
 
This game is far higher paced and more high scoring than the last.
 
I’m going to hate Frankie Collins at UM. He and Hardy just willed this team to a win. Really really impressed. Came up quite so many huge plays down the stretch.

What an absolute collapse by the other team though.
