He's definitely earned the right to improve upon the past 5 years. I don't think its the same situation as Tubby. UK was just too large for Tubby. He was a lazy recruiter. But a helluva guy and he could coach. Well except during the Saul yrs.

We have a helluva recruiting class for next year. Kind of like old times with Cal. I think Cal will eventually leave on his own. Probably end up as governor in KY.

Very few schools in history can match what UK did from '09-15. I'm you'll pick up what I'm putting down.

Yeah, Drew has been at Baylor for 19 years now and aside from last season hasn't done much other than a pair of Elite 8s and only finished in the top 3 of the league 5 times.

Three years ago I considered Drew a fairly average coach. As a KU fan, I probably respected him less than many basketball fans, because Self consistently dominated his zone and beat him convincingly.

But he reinvented himself three years ago. Scrapping the zone in favor of the “no middle” defense completely changed the program. Following two top 5 teams and a dominant title run with a totally different roster that’s at the top again proves that it was no fluke. It’s not as if he’s had rosters loaded with can’t-miss prospects. He just has a winning culture now. I think it would be pretty foolish for a top program not to pursue him.

Being we have 5 coaches with titles. Pearl would have to mess it up to not win a title.

At some point we have to think, do we play the numbers game and bring in a new coach?

I also don’t like his philosophy on thinking just sheer athleticism is better then actual skilled basketball players. UK teams under him have had issues scoring because he won’t go after the high volume scoring types that may not have the perfect nba body

I believe what becomes of that team is going to probably answer all the questions. That class from what I hear is supposed to compare to his best, or something like that. Might have a good role player or two with experience back to fill out the team. Potential Preseason #1 type good.

That's fair, and this team is the 2nd oldest in UK history and is built around shooters. He adapted. It's still early.

Calipari has set the standard for managing a big time program. Pearl's management skills are suspect. And if Cal needs elite player's, then not to worry, we have a boat load coming in net year.
