Self: Ruling 100% unfair

From a outsider, who rarely keeps up with off court news outside my home state, why is this unfair?

De Sousa's guardian took money that De Sousa presumably didn't know about. If he really didn't know that the guardian accepted the money, De Sousa is being punished severely for somebody else's actions. As far as I know, there's no evidence De Sousa knew about the payment.

The NCAA is indifferent to that because it's an impermissible benefit either way. It's unfair to be punished for the actions of somebody you are not and cannot be responsible for, but the NCAA doesn't want players to be able to claim ignorance as a defense.

The NCAA likes to hold individuals responsible for the actions of others whom they do not control. If blind, deaf grandma is handed a stack of cash by a booster so she can go to the hospital to not die, the NCAA will make sure her student-athlete grandson pays the price.

Zero evidence DeSousa knew. And zero evidence he benfited in anyway what so ever.

Has anybody given a good reason why they gave him such a harsh penalty? I could understand a 20 game or even 1 year suspension but 2 full seasons is just outrageous. I feel like they’re just making an example out of him in regards to all of the offseason FBI stuff.

Yes, I think that is exactly it. They are trying to cover their own tails. It is absurd.

he should have been suspended for this year or told he would never play CBB again
i think the two year ban is the cowards way of ending his college career

i think they are setting a precedence for how they are going to handle players, coaches and schools involved in the FBI probe

as far as to whether he did or did not know
the NCAA has stated many times that does not matter
remember the words "strict liability"

Always the SEC doing the dirty work. Wish State would just move over there.

The irony here is just too damn rich.

oh good effing god. who are you trying to fool? The kid didnt benefit? So his handler got 60K from a maryland booster but SDS never saw any of the money?? The Guardian didnt use any of it on SDS? lmao. had no idea what was going on...?? He just wondered why all of a sudden his guardian was pushing Maryland and then KU hard as hell?

and even if you dont want to go on the 60K from the Maryland booster.... The guardian still agreed to 20K ... just because he never got to get it ........ doesnt mean its not against the rules to agree to cheat like that.

Im just tired of people getting caught red handed and then trying to act like a victim.

If I’m KU, there’s no way I abide by this. If Cam Newton and can be accused and cleared in a matter of hours/days and get off because he didn’t know his dad took $150K, there’s no evidence DeSousa knew? Nah, this ain’t flying. I understand the NCAA doesn’t use precedent but come on now.
NCAA can go screw themselves. I’d be extremely outspoken on the topic and I’d also be outspoken on some other organization needs to step up and take over college athletics. Ultimately putting an end to the NCAA.

They closed that loophole right after the Cam Newton case.

I wasn't going to respond at all tbh. I do think it is humorous how all the non-UNC fans think they know more about it but don't realize how weird and desperate that would actually make them if true.

I hear you. These clowns say they're over it but they keep bringing it up and it's mostly UK fans, how ironic is that? It's like their woman/GF kicked them to the curb and they're not having it.

The Rug Doctor is covering his butt. He knows this Adidas thing could blow up so some tactical faux outrage will show the NCAA that he’s not going acknowledge crap so they better bring it if they are going to try and take KU down.

I’d do the same thing after watching UL and MO get drilled for acknowledging wrong doing and UNCcheat get off by lawyering up and exploiting a loophole.

is it really any surprise? at the end of the day you lie in the bed you made. if this were the first time i heard of this with self and ku i'd give a shit, but he's been playing this tight rope game for a while now. he's lucky it has not bit him in the ass in a much more severe way as of yet.

Self has been dirty for years. The FBI has him on tape requesting help from Adidas to get great players. I am sure Self was not expecting them to give a recruit money, maybe just a pair of shoes.

Time to give it a rest. There are already FBI documents detailing planned payments to Hagans, Bam, 30k to Vanderbilt's family, etc. And anyone using common sense knows that the likes of Anthony Davis and Wall took money. Much, much more than De Sousa or his guardian ever saw.

Do you actually believe this only happens at Adidas or do you believe that Calipari, K, Roy, etc are oblivious to it? Either answer is frigging hilarious.

Nike's day is coming.

I find it funny that people cherry pick the part of the FBI tape that fits their anti-Self agenda while ignoring the bit where they discuss how Nike does the same thing for Duke, UNC and UK.

Where did it mention UNC? It may have and I missed it, except for the part where they are talking about Little and mention that UNC isn't willing to play those games. I thought there was something like that at least.

Bill Self said that's the way it works at Kentucky, Duke, UNC, etc.
