Selection Sunday thread

UL is ranked higher than UK but got the lower seed.

I think the committee having to navigate 14 SEC teams and even it out amongst the regions was difficult for them.

As for UNC in the field, personally I wasn't expecting it but I'm not going to apologize for it. I'm just going to sit here and laugh at the crying/comments, it's not going to change anything.

By most of the metrics UK should be a 4 seed. They are a 3 seed, that is not a wild misplacement of justice. Louisville should be a 5 seed, but that is not the SEC's fault. UNC probably has more to do with viewership and money than anything. The "Dance" is a business after all.

The viewership is going to be there regardless if UNC is in or out. This is March Madness.

I'm not disagreeing. 1-12 against Q1 doesn't deserve a spot. I would have gone with Indiana or West Virginia.

Clemson at a 5 seed is about right. Louisville at an 8 seed just feels a little low. have left

Basically every power conference team besides UNC, Duke, Kentucky, And kansas would get left out with uNC's current resume

The NCAA tourney is a business. In business you try to make as much money as you can. The viewership will be better with UNC than without due to all those years of success. There are a lot of folk that follow the Tar heels.

Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final Four are all just marketing terms. The NCAA is a well run business. Anyone know the name of the 4th place horse at the Kentucky Derby during Secretariat's triple crown KY derby ? Does anyone care? I doubt it. The NCAA's CBB tourney are masters at marketing and their #1 goal is making money and selecting a champion is on down the line.

Torvik, what is that? It sounds like a Klingon name. Do Klingon's follow NCAA basketball?

I think the biggest controversy that is not being talked about is that the selection committee spoke out of both sides of their mouth. They claim late season injuries was a topic that had bearing on placement and they also stated that body of work was paramount regardless of recent games. That is a contradiction. A season ending injury should not have any effect on selection if selection is decided by body of work.

Kenyon Martin broke his leg before the tourney. CIncy was the top ranked team going in and the committee dropped them from the 1 line to the 2 line but I agree with you.

Florida St. in football, undefeated season, star QB Jordan Travis get's hurt. FSU get's left out of the playoffs.
If Flagg missed the tourney duke would be a 2 seed.

This is making selections on perceived potential or lack thereof. That turns things subject and away from merit.

No, unlike you I don't switch gears, I stay on topic and not afraid to say I messed up.

You will take a discussion in 20 different directions trying to prove a point.
huh? you litwrally said Auburn hadnt won a ncaa tourney game since 2019. That was wrong as we have won 2 since then

And I owned it.

And did I try to move the goal posts like you, No

That's why I and the majority of this board talks crazy to you because once you see your argument isn't valid you get personal, talk about other sports, stuff not related to what you're talking about.

If Auburn falls short you'll cry about something and the first thing out of your mouth is that the tourney should be the best 2/3.

The virginia loss is the only one i take issue with. I have no excuses for other Aubunr losses. We lost fair and square there. I do own you though

You don't even own that little thing in your head called a brain.

You cried recently about the UVA game so answer me this Sherlock.

If you get beat and it don't matter when how long will you grieve this time?
How many excuse are you going to have?

I'm sure you're going to come up something and I'll be here laughing my ass off.

I wouldn't say Duke in 2025 is super comparable to Cincinnati in 2000. Cincinnati lost in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament. Meanwhile, Duke won the ACC Tournament without Flagg. You don't get credit for wins if a player is missing and you lose; I don't see how you can be penalized if a player is missing, and you still won.

The fact that anyone could be upset about UNC and not upset about Xavier just shows it isn't about anything more than hating UNC, which is fine. Just own it.

I'd take West Virginia, Indiana, and Boise State over both UNC and Xavier.

This might influence teams to just schedule a boat load of top 50 games in the future. Seems like SOS is the most important factor.

Right, and I have no problem with someone having that POV. What I have no tolerance for is the way some in the media have acted towards UNC in general and certainly towards UNC and not Xavier. It's garbage. There is an argument to me made for all of those teams over UNC or for UNC over them. Like I said, none of them are worthy enough to warrant this faux outrage.

I don't think SOS is the most important factor. I think the metrics were the most important factor. UNC was better than all of the other teams according to the metrics. Maybe the SOS heavily impacted the metrics though.

We all know how this goes...

Everybody spends days bitching about a certain team getting in. Then said team goes on a run. UNC and Xavier to the Elite 8. Book it.

No way Tennessee in Purdue in the same region? The committee is just trolling now.
Not only that but if by some miracle we met each other in the Elite Eight. 2 seed Tennessee would have to play 4 seed Purdue IN INDIANAPOLIS, which is about an hour from Purdue's campus.

It would be fun playing an Eddeyless Purdue. I for one don't miss that Giant.

I think they put a lot of weight on NET rankings. NC has a much higher NET ranking than the others.

Plus, it's nice to be a Blue Blood.

Do you think blue blood got y'all a 3 seed over a 4 seed?

As a Duke fan, I'd prefer if UNC missed the tournament, just because. With that said, eye test tells me they should be in. The last month or so they feel like a top 25 team to me. Now does their total body of work get them in? Not sure about that, but I think it will be more entertaining with them in the tourney.

No, sweeping Tennessee, beating duke, beating florida and winning at Gonzaga, got UK a 3 seed.

SOS is top 5 and I know you hate this one, but injuries were considered. Ole Bubba said a week ago that our injuries would be taken into consideration.

At least Butler is back, you might maybe take a look at Iowa State. They have a key injury that is permanent, they don't have the wins UK has and they also got a 3.

Iowa State also has a loss to Oklahoma state (quad 3), wva (not in the tournament) and a loss to KSU by 19 at home. So if you have an issue with UK on the 3 line, certainly you have an issue with Iowa State… right?
