Props to UNC for playing at Wofford

Well after losing at home last season they had to. Good solid non conference win, great to see them go on the road and play a powerhouse like Wofford

If it wasn't for this classic or a pre season tournament when was the last time Duke played a true road game to open the season?

Duke doesn't do that, whether it's K's theory of making the team ready for tournaments that Cal has adopted or he just isn't willing to deal with the bullshit on the road I don't know. But UK on a "neutral floor" is probably more difficult than Wofford... I hope at least.

Nothing against Dook but I doubt UK could win @ Wofford.

I love the fact UNC played a true road game to start their season. Wofford is a good team and as expected challenged UNC for most of the game. Not the easiest of wins for the Heels.
UNC plays 2 true road games to open the season. While the 2nd “shouldn’t” be that hard, UNC plays @ Elon on Friday night.

Roy probably thought 2 consecutive home losses to Wofford would be too embarrassing.
Embarrassing like this?

Wofford isn’t a good team but they are scrappy and play hard. They were almost a tourney team last year but lost by 2 in the So Con title game. I’m pretty sure they returned everyone from that team.

Anyway, it’s nothing to brag about but UNC did what more teams should do. Have to imagine it was a lot of fun for Wofford students last night.

Yeah, the atmosphere was pretty crazy. Kenny Williams did a pretty ridiculous job defending McGee (who is the 9th best shooter in NCAA history) but when Fletcher finally made a few shots that place went nuts.

Small schools usually prefer playing away from home because of the money they get paid to let the big dogs beat 'em up. That's why big schools traveling to small gyms early in the season is a rare sight.

I like it. Noticed most of the Top 25 played yesterday. Only one went on the road. Props to Roy, as always.

Like Indianapolis isn't "on the road" for Kansas, Kentucky, Duke or Sparty.

Now, not a "true road game", but I don't believe many here believe that UNC got better experience by playing Wofford at Wofford.

Projection wise, Wofford does help the Tar Heels prepare for ~ at Georgia Tech and ~ at Boston College. And honestly, I'm not even sure UNC plays those guys away or wherever.

Unless your favorite team is getting an NIT bid "true road games" are only prep for Conf season, while top 60 matchups on neutral courts are prep for the NCAAT.

But good on Roy for preparing his team for the bottom of ACC play. That's important if he wants a high seed in their conf tourney.

UK would’ve probably lost at Wofford last night. So there’s that.

I agree road games help prepare guys for conference play more than anything else. I also think it helps young players deal with adversity in a hostile environment, which can help in a number of different ways though. It doesn't have to be a straight 1:1 relationship.

Meh. 3400 fans seated right on top of the court screaming as loud as they can helps to prepare a team, regardless. It’s an early season snooze alarm.

It’s also a cool thing when a blueblood schedules a home and home with a “local program.” I read that Spartanburg, SC dubbed it the biggest sporting even they’ve ever had or something to that effect.

I give UNC props for going on the road to open the season at two small schools to play in their gyms. If UNC f*ked up and lost, they’d get dinged big time for it. A lot of schools won’t risk it, regardless of opponent. Shit happens in college b-ball.

Wofford made out better having UNC there.

Game was on espn 2, students camped out for tickets, city had alumni in town, etc.

Sometimes More profitable for blue bloods to visit schools than for some small schools to pick up a buy game. Huge deal for those universities to host big time schools like UNC, Kansas, UK, Etc.

What's the capacity of their arena?

It’s more than ticket sales tho. I’m from Greenville SC.. i have several wofford grad friends. This was a huge deal to the school. Big time.

Arena was tiny but it looked really nice from the pictures I saw. You could tell the fans made a difference when Wofford hit a few shots. That’s a good squad.

Yeah, those fans are right top of the court. It’s loud Af in there. And it really is a nice arena.

Any other blue blood school would love for their team to have the nuts to schedule like Roy.

Play at Elon tomorrow night. I imagine the atmosphere is going to be crazy too. Roy does have the stones to do this unlike others outside of classics/pre season tournaments their true road games start when conference play rolls around.
