Preseason top 25 for next season...

Article is assuming that Troy Brown is going to stay in college. I agree Oregon is top 10 if that happens but I think he's going pro.

I guess I'm being a homer here, but I really believe IU will be a Top 25 team nest year. Especially if we land Langford. Indiana returns a lot and has a Top 20 class coming in. Those returning will have a year under their belt with Miller and his system; You could see the improvements and the comfort as the yer went on. I think this is a huge factor. Guys will now be able to help the freshman with learning the system. IMO, that;s a nice thing to have.

Just an opinion, but I think Indiana is much, much better next year. Like Top 25'ish better. Add Langford, and this team could be a Top 10'ish, if not better type of team.

Other notes:

I know Duke has a monster of a class coming in..........But that is all they have. Number 1? Noooo. Now come March, maybe. But to start the season? No chance.

If Knox or SGA return, UK IMO is preseason #1. If they both return, IMO it's unanimous.

Another argument for #1 could be Michigan. If both Wagner and Matthews return, I's have them at #1. If just one returns, Top 10. But IF that one is Wagner, I say Top 5.

Agree with the post. Hoosiers with Langford will battle Michigan & Maryland (If Bruno returns) for the Big Ten title next season. However, if Brunson returns, Nova is a lock for #1 imo.

NO doubt.

As for IU. WIth Langford, they contend for the Big 10. Without, I think we are at worse Top 5.

Quick early top 5 for next season for the Big Ten- not in nay specific order:
  • Michigan
  • Hoosiers- with Langford
  • Maryland- if Bruno returns
  • Wisconsin- If Happ returns
  • Michigan State or Penn State- depending on what Ward & Carr do...

So we went to the Elite 8 but should not be ranked next season?

Same thing for FSU. Smh. Just more of the same from national media.

UF loses Chiozza and Egor. Egbunu too. Maybe Hudson. And they are top 20 again. FSU will just have to beat them for a 5th straight year.

Wisconsin will be garbage with or without happ. Bottom half big ten team for sure. I love how they say they are adding talent with the 59th ranked class. That recruiting class sucks haha.

Waters gonna be a monster next year

I'd agree with this. I think teams like Oregon being picked #7 is a tad overstating things. They could be top 25, but 7? Pac-12 was horrible this year. That would have to be one hell of an improvement. Just my opinion.

I don't think Purdue will be a top 25 team, but they have some really nice pieces to build around. Carson Edwards will be one of the best guards in the nation. Nojel Eastern was starting to come along late in the season as a Freshman and Haarms had a nice Freshman season as well. Cline will be a senior and is a great shooter, but that's about it. Athleticism is his weakness. Taylor is also a senior and though he's been injured most of his career looked pretty good in the few minutes he's played. There were a few guys that redshirt this year and from all accounts we've heard they are quite athletic so this could be a much more athletic Purdue team. Could have some growing pains throughout the year, but could be playing like a top 25 team by seasons end.

3 is either too high or too low for us, depending on who we have coming back ;) I think Kansas will end up being preseason number one to start the year.

I think MSU may struggle a bit more than people think if JJJ leaves.

I'm not sold on the recruits coming to Duke next year. They are all playmakers, which will certainly help, but they all need the ball in their hands - and none of them have shown much consistency in perimeter shooting. If you can't consistently make outside jumpers, teams are going to pack it in the paint and severely limit the spacing. Gary Trent would be an amazing asset to have back, but I see little chance of that happening with the top 3 players in the 2018 class all being wings coming to Duke. Alex O'Connell can certainly light it up, but I wonder how many minutes will be afforded him with all the talent coming in. My preseason top 10, without too much thought or research, would be:

1. Villanova
2. Kansas
3. Gonzaga
4. Tennessee
5. Kentucky
6. Virginia
7. Auburn
8. Nevada
9. Michigan State
10. Duke

MSU will not be that good...

KU will be damn near unstoppable if Newman returns. But it seems unlikely.

Still...A frontcourt of the Lawson bros, De Sousa, Azubuike and McCormack has to be the best in the country.

Nova will probably be 1 if Brunson comes back, but I highly doubt that happens. How could his stock get any higher, especially if they blow out Michigan tonight? Spellman has played his way into a first round pick and Bridges is definitely gone. Doesn't make a lot of sense for any of them to come back.

I haven't seen any mock drafts with Spellman on it - that could certainly change, though. I expect Bridges and Brunson to both leave. 2019 early projected lineup:

Jahvon Quinerly, 6'0 Fr
Phil Booth, 6'3 Sr
Donte DiVencenzo, 6'5 Jr
Eric Paschall, 6'9 Sr
Omari Spellman, 6'9 So

Key Reserves: Collin Gillespie, Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree, Cole Swider (Fr), Brandon Slater (Fr), Jermaine Samuels

Don't know why Brunson would leave, it's unlikely that he would even go in the 1st round. He would be better served to come back, get his degree, and have a shot to win 3 titles in 4 years, IMO. Assuming Nova wins tonight, which they will. Winking

I think everyone is just assuming Brunson and Bridges are gone. Regardless, Nova is going to be very good again next season, maybe even Final Four worthy again, but losing those two guys sting a lot.

Kansas appears to be most peoples pick for #1 next season. With that being said, there's still some mystery as to who is leaving or coming on the wing. If Newman were to return (which I'm not banking on it), Kansas is a huge favorite. If he and Vick leave, the likelihood of landing Langford goes up astronomically.

The thought is Kansas doesn't get Langford unless BOTH Vick and Newman leave, not just one. Kansas already has Garrett, Cunliff, Ogbaji, and KJ Lawson vying for minutes on the wing. I'm assuming if Kansas doesn't get Langford and Newman and Vick don't return, Lawson or Garrett will start on the wing. Both are supremely talented players, but Newman/Langford are all AA type talents. It's a luxury right now Bill Self will live with as the rest of the roster is just stacked next season.

Couple notes:

  • Kentucky & Duke back in the top three again next season- "what a surprise"
  • Nice to see the Terps back in the rankings- hopefully Bruno stays, or they should drop off of the list
  • Nevada top 10 if nobody leaves early or transfers?
  • Think Michigan State & LSU are rated too high.

WVU not top 25?

Ok.... Laughing

I get we lose Jevon Carter and Dax Miles, but we have 8 of our top 10 back and some nice players coming in.

Kansas State returns its ENTIRE roster off a elite eight run without its best player and get no love either.

The BIG 12 will be a bear again next season, but you wouldn't know it by looking at this early ranking.

For one, Brunson is graduating in 3 years and will receive his diploma this spring. Second, he might very well make his way into the first round this year. His stock will never be higher, he'd be foolish to come back given his personal circumstances listed above.

Yea it's just 2 guys, but those 2 guys were basically responsible for about 70% of anything good that happened for WVA this year. Konate gets about 25% and then 5% spread out to the rest of the team.
