*****OFFICIAL NCAA TOURNEY THREAD*****

My issue with favoring offensive players is that it caters to people driving into the lane completely out of control looking for a bail out at times.
well if someone is completely out of control and a defender steps in and takes a charge it shouldn't be a too close to call play.

You basically just said you wanted offensive players favored so yes it could be to close to call in your scenario

Don't agree that that would be a close call. Guys out of control who bowl over players is not my definition of a close call. That one is easy for refs to spot.

Now as for actual close calls, those should favor the offensive player for the reasons I outlined.

You are creating grey area for what’s to close to call by saying the offensive player should be favored. Neither side should be favored

Reasonable minds can differ and I guess I’m sort of just jumping in here. I wish they’d allow a little more contact for the defensive player in the paint but less contact around the perimeter. It seems these days that guys can grab and whatnot around most of the court but they get around the basket and the offensive player jumps into someone and it’s a foul on the defender. Right now we tend to reward guys for jumping in front of an offensive player but penalize them for actually trying to block the ball.

I don't think it's that difficult. On a bang bang play the offensive player should get the benefit of the doubt. That little change right there would greatly improve the overall product on the court. It's not that hard to understand or enforce. If you're a ref and you're not sure then it's a block. How hard is that?

It's national peacock day? Excellent timing, St. Peter's.

Crazy to think they're still a national title contender, even without their best player. Off the top of my head, I don't think I can recall anything quite like that.
1997 Kentucky. Lost Derek Anderson halfway through the season. Lost in the title game to Arizona in OT. Should've been the 2nd title in a UK 3-peat.

The one that came to me was Loyola Marymount, though I can’t really remember what it was like when it was happening. I was pretty young.
That team never really had a shot to win a title though. Gathers died during the WCC semi-final and LMU was only an 11-seed in the NCAAT. They made a great run all the way to the Elite Eight, but ran into UNLV and got crushed by 30. Gathers wasn't going to change that. Matter of fact, I doubt they would've made it that far with Gathers. The team, especially Kimble, was just playing very inspired basketball after he died.

you weren't touching that Zona team. That team was touched by a higher power. The 3 guard rotation of Simon, Bibby and Dickerson was too much for any team in that tourney.

I don't gamble, but was in Vegas during the tourney and made a killing betting Arizona every game on the money line. They beat 3 #1 seeds and I had at least 2 of those games with money on Zona straight up no spread. Made a killing (or as much of a killing a law student with no money can making bets under $50)

A close comparison would be Indiana losing SCott May in 75----OR, IU losing Alan Henderson in 93.

Yeah, this....May have won a game, maybe 2----though I doubt the beat Michigan in the 2nd round.

Never like getting the West Region. Would almost prefer being a 3 seed in another region. Always look back to when we were the 1 seed in 2011 and got absolutely demolished by Arizona.

Does the West Coast only count as CA, OR, WA? We've won games in Utah and Colorado.
I think they actually said "Pacific Time Zone"...

You can add Gonzaga to the list of teams who lost because of refs. Pretty sizeable list in this tournament.

Those last 3 fouls on Chet were ridiculous and 100% cost Gonzaga the game.

The block/charge rule is ruining the game of basketball. It needs to be changed/adjusted to favor offensive players.
Just stop.....JFC. Players have more to do with who wins/loses----and it ain't close. Bad calls are bad calls----they happen to everyone, and will continue to happen. That cannot be controlled...What CAN BE controlled is not turning the ball over 17 times.....Or missing FT's......or shooting 41%. Or givig up 2nd chance points.

I get so tired of hearing this shit....

They have a lot of experience with that in the tournament.
So does a lot of programs.....

Duke has 44 NCAAT appearances----5 titles-----so 39 times they have needed to be gracious..

Kentucky has 59 NCAAT appearances---8 titles----so 51 times, they have needed to be gracious..

I cannot wait until Few gets his----and he will. The shit he gets, and that program gets is beyond ridiculous....

7 straight SW 16's.....4 Elite 8's, 2 National title games, in 7 seasons, and they get the "overrated moniker"---Its fukin stupid.

And save me the, "they get a 1/2 seed----they should.........."....Well, I mean they have went to the SW 16's 4 times as a 10 seed or worse...Went to the Elite 8 as a 4.....

Their conference isn't great---but its not terrible; 6th this year? Not to mention, they ALWAYS play a brutal OOC slate----Texas, Duke, Alabama, TTU, UCLA this year.....

And since 2015, they are 26-13 vs AP Top 25 teams.

Bottom line: They are good, and deserving. God teams have bad games----And Arky was a tough match-up for them....

Gonzaga sucks.

He was a great college guard. Great slasher from what I recall and played D. The Zona team had 3 great college guards.
Arizona was a 4 seed for a reason but they caught fire at the right time. Still not beating UK with Anderson. Took overtime to beat them without Anderson.

St.Peter's continues to impress, Purdue is much better than this though but they seem to be unprepared for this game, strange considering they were given a few days to get ready for St.Peters.
