*****OFFICIAL NCAA TOURNEY THREAD*****

It helps Duke as well. They have always been at their best when they can grab and play that sort of defense on the perimeter.
This is a good point, keels is built like a full back so maybe he'll finally have a good game- not sure how Banchero will handle it though.

I agree it certainly helps Tech more though. I think if K and Duke could choose one they would choose a tight whistle versus a loose one in this particular matchup.

Of the teams remaining, you could easily argue that Miami has a top 5 backcourt. What trio of guards would you take over McGusty, Wong, and Moore? There aren't many. Maybe Kansas, Villanova, and UCLA.

More often than not, it will be the guards who lead you to a championship. I'm not expecting that for the Hurricanes, but I do think they represent KU's strongest threat in the Midwest. Miami doesn't have much of an inside game, and they lack depth - but those guards are electric.
DePaul representing!

I guess Coleman-Lands is done at ISU cause I didn’t see him out there this weekend. Could’ve been a DePaul vs DePaul matchup in the S16.

They're constantly overseeded giving them weaker early round opponents. They may win more games vs teams they're supposed to beat. Meaning they may be better at avoiding major upsets. But it doesn't mean what they are doing is all that impressive in the tournament.
7 straight SW 16's.....4 Elite 8's and two National title games....Naaaaah, nutting impressive about that.

And BTW, 2 of those SW 16's, they were a 4 and 11 seed.

Good is good.

UK beat the piss out of a bad SEC for years, that didn't give two ****s about basketball. Doesn't diminish how good THEY were.

They have not lost in the 1st round since 2008. During that span they have been :

11-seed twice
8-seed twice
7-seed twice

Past 10 years:

They have been a 11, 8, 7 and 4 seed...

Since 2015, they are 26-13 vs AP Top 25....

How are they constantly overseeded, again?

Dumb move on his part, he was barely good enough to play for DePaul. At least he was consistent in that you could count him to have 1 really good game followed by 5 really bad games.
He got fairly significant playing time at KU, and he was not going to get any at ISU. The door was held open for him to leave.

May as well discuss all the madness in one thread. Let's start off with a little tourney history. I am sure @jhmossy can appreciate this.

A lot of us appreciate that, especially now that the 2 seed hit double figures 😀

JCL went from 32 mpg for ISU to 8 mpg for Kansas. JCL decided to transfer to Kansas for 2 reasons.

1. He wanted to guarantee playing in the NCAAs at least 1 season even if off the bench.

2. JCL is very interested in coaching after college. Wanted to learn from one of the best in college basketball. That’s why he chose to come to KU with the prospect of not getting a ton of minutes. Basically he’s been a “grad assistant” role this year but can actually suit up and play. This is what a family member within the athletic program told me on JCL. If you watch a game he’s almost always sitting right next to the coaching staff on the bench.

He got shown the door right along with Rasir Bolton(leading scorer) who starts for Gonzaga.

IF they were both actually shown the door, that was very dumb. One is shooting 47% from three and the other 45%. They’re basically exactly what Iowa St is missing right now. They might be a legitimate final four team with those guys.

Is this real life? WTF......

Does this include missed calls?

Lets say there were 40 calls, per game, over 48 games....That is 1, 920 calls. That means they got 1, 843 calls correct... Meaning they missed, 77 calls. Less than two per game? I saw two missed calls in 8 seconds, in one game....But thats just me.

I dunno.....96% sounds good. Missing 77 calls not so much, I guess.

Weird game....with weird stats. Hard job, with even weirder stats.

Some calls we see as fans that we think are wrng, by rule, or how written, actually are right. Some no matter how written, etc, etc...are just plain bad.

Overall, it wasn't THAT bad, IMO-----But it wasn't that good either. Very inconsitent.

Bolton’s 3 pt % this year is far higher than before. Probably partly due to competition but also due to playing on a much better team and getting less of the defense’s focus.

Coleman-Lands’ percentage would probably be a bit lower if the sample were larger, but he’s definitely a very good shooter. If he’s open, you expect it to go in.

I get that Otzelberger prioritizes defense, but it’s ridiculous to think he wouldn’t take those guys on the current roster in a heartbeat. I don’t think either player is even bad defensively. Bolton can start for Gonzaga but wouldn’t get quality minutes at Iowa St? Haha…come on.

Well probably going to miss the Duke game, just about guaranteed it won't start until 10 pm eastern. So I'll either wake up happy or slightly less happy. These start times are bullshit for people with jobs on the east coast.

You can't stay up until midnight to watch your team in the Sweet 16? WTF?

Hell, I rarely fall asleep before then anyway.

No one really knows why Bolton left. I've heard both he choose to leave and was not asked back on the team. It may have simply been a difference in opinion and they mutually agreed to part. Personally, I think he would have been hugely beneficial to have, but at the time he may have slowed the growth of Tyrease Hunter.

that's a highly biased narrative he's promoting.

Counterpoint: Because of the Zags conference the Zags are more likely to have a gaudy win total and a better chance at a top seed than teams playing in more competitive conferences. Having that top seed has let Gonzaga feast on inferior opponents through the first couple rounds of the tourney and load up on easier victories than teams that have to battle all year just to get a top 4 seed.

agreed and I'm not even on the east coast. I don't understand why the Arizona TCU game started at 9:00 central time Sunday night. I don't understand why there was only 2 games Sunday afternoon back to back followed by 6 games crammed into the night schedule. It's sunday, put the f-ing games on ALL DAY and have them end before 9:00 central.

Tonigth they could've easily started the games at 6:00 est instead of 7:00 and then the late games would be starting at 9:00 instead of 10:00.

Just as bad in the NBA where games often start at 10:30 est. I have a personal rule that i won't watch any sporting event that starts after 9:00 est on a work night. I'm in bed by 11:30 est.

Arkansas being very physical early and it's working. Not sure they can hold up all game but hanging in so far.
