Which do you see as worse for CBB, if you see it as bad at all? Cal has had moderate success with both, but neither has really proven to be “the way”, IMO. Anything you’d change about either M.O.?

One and done. As it’s not the ncaa that created it. Those type players need to be allowed to go directly to nba

I think the thing that irritates me about the transfer portal is you’re bringing players that you didn’t deem as “UK material” (or any top program for that matter) in the first place, and now depending on that player to somehow suddenly be up to standard. Tshweibe was a clear exception to that thought.

The transfer portal more sucks for the small schools that find gems in recruiting

You certainly have a better idea of the their ability to play to college game vs ond's. We've had so many ond's that were ok players and still made it to NBA.

I like 2-3 really good 5 stars, those that shouldn't miss, some experience in the program and fill the holes with transfers. I think we've done ok in the transfer market so far. We're after some really good, solid players this year.

I thought I read somewhere that only 4 schools in D1 didn't have someone transfer out of the program last year. Want to say Villanova was one of those schools. There's a reason why Bill Walton calls it the tinder portal - and Jon Rothstein calls it Portal Kombat. Transfers are universal. Over 1,700 guys hit the portal last year - and just about all of those guys were immediately eligible.

OADs only materially impact two programs, Duke and Kentucky. There are what, maybe 20-30 OADs in a typical year? That pales in comparison to the portal.

Yeah the portal is much more spread out but I actually like it. I think it’s a blast. Auburn is also about to have its 4th one and one in the last 3 seasons. Had two last year

Transfer portal to me by a long shot, and mainly bc of the tampering/cheating that cones with it.

With NIL recruiting is the wild weat anyways, now with the transfer portal you have teams recruiting players on your roster smdh. Esp bad in football.

I think the OAD is great for college basketball but I disagree with it because I think these kids should be allowed to go. It is a rule to help the NBA. They don't care about the kids or college basketball.

I think the transfer rule is tough for some programs but great for the student-athletes.

its about the players trying to protect their time in the league as long as possible. The NBA is fine with it, its the player's union. I'll doubt they ever approve it.

Can you only transfer one time and maintain immediate eligibility? Or can you transfer 3 times and play for four different schools without sitting out a year? As soon as I know the answer, I will have my take.

I see college basketball going off the rails. (That is a railroad term from an old railroad man.)

The game is changing one step at a time.

  • College football and basketball start out as a scholarship to go to school for free.
  • Then fans pay them, the old $5 handshake.
  • The NCAA says fans can't pay them so you play for your free scholarship.
  • Some schools continue to try to give the kids money and they are placed on probation and can't play and miss the tourneys as punishment.
  • The game then becomes a game of who can cheat without being caught.
  • Then some schools take a big step and don't require the kids to go to school, so then there are no students but they are still called students instead of kids playing basketball for room and board and access to girls on campus.
  • Then some schools can pay without probation as they are favored by the NCAA.
  • Then the dollars brought in by college sports becomes important and the NCAA spreads the wealth from the old original 100 schools to the now 330 schools to do the socialist thing of being all inclusive, let the little school enjoy the wealth.
  • The One and done rule: U.S. antitrust law does not allow the NBA to not contract a man of 18 (an adult) if they, and he, wants to play. However, they are doing it. The hell with law.
  • Then the U.S. Supreme rules that the NCAA never could keep a kid from making money off of his face and name, thus the NIL. Heaven only knows what will happen to college ball when the U.S. supreme court rules on one and done.
  • Then the NCAA allows the transfer portal so any kid can go anywhere a team wants him.

We are starting to witness the total folding of college basketball and football as we know it unless someone with some wit steps forward and gets rid of the stupid NCAA and puts college sports on equal footing.

If the top 110 schools bring in 90% of the revenue, why do we keep the other 220 schools (rounded numbers)? Why do some schools get special favors and other's don't?

College sports has been my cup of tea for 65 years, but if they disassemble it I will walk along with 100 million of my ilk.

The NCAA and NBA sucks.

I mean it’s all still basically hit or miss. You rely on OADs and there’s no guarantee they’re going to be impactful as freshmen and then they’re right out the door. Also no guarantee a guy who is transferring from a non-power 5 school is going to be impactful as well. They may have feasted on lower level guys or they could not fit into the system at their new school.

I will say though for the top schools the transfer portal is important because of the large number of high school kids now sign with the GL or OTE. Allows them to replenish their ranks with the top transfers instead of relying on those top freshman who are now going to different route. When one door closes another door opens. I overall am enjoying the excitement of seeing where the transfers are going to go. It’s created this new excitement following the basketball season when for the most part there would be a huge lull.

I do think though when predicting the top teams for next season look for teams with the most continuity from this season to the next. Who is returning the most rotation guys from the previous season. All four F4 teams had at least 3 returning rotations guys in their starters. Duke had 3. UNC had 4. KU and Nova all 5 starters were rotation guys the previous year for their team.

Once without the year. Every time after that you sit one year like the old days.

Agree, but I’ll add that I think you can continue to seek (and get) a waiver to play immediately. It will be interesting to see if the NCAA gives them out easily.

Unless u get a waiver for coaching change or something. We have guys transferring twice who should be eligible bc of our coaching change.
