I'm not offended, and not interested in getting into a back and forth on the subject - so this will be my only post in this thread.
Similar to Da_Bull, I have a nephew with Down Syndrome. Before he was born I had zero awareness of the subject, so I don't look down on anyone in that situation currently. I do, however, think that people should have the ability to look in the mirror when someone with more knowledge on a subject tells them that they said something potentially offensive. Maybe you decide that person is overly sensitive (as people seem to have decided here), but maybe if you're open-minded you learn something and avoid offending someone important in your life in the future.
I think Da_Bull has covered this, but just in case it isn't clear - implying that a person, or team, or anything else is lesser by comparing their abilities to the Special Olympics may offend people. I can understand the comparison - the people in the Special Olympics are in general not as fast or as strong as the people in the Olympics. But they are still people that have worked their entire lives for that event, and have loved ones that don't want to see their accomplishments diminished or seen as lesser (and yes, I know the Indiana players have worked their entire lives and have loved ones too).
That is all. Please continue your regular scheduled programming of calling me a snowflake and making fun of Indiana.
