NIL - Shaedon Sharpe

I could get injured and ruin my entire career, or play myself out of the lottery, AND I have to go to class!

Harrison Barnes was a projected lottery pick and returned. But I don't know if he was projected as high as Sharpe. Can't think of any others.
Brandon Boston is the best example I can use. Everyone thought he was a lottery pick, his stock dropped every time he steppen on the court last year.

If you are guaranteed lottery, you would be a fool to come back to college.

True, although what has been mentioned previously is something to consider too. The goal should be to have longevity in the league and especially to get to that 2nd contract when the big money shows up. There have been plenty of highly touted players that maybe entered the league before they were ready and got chewed up and spit out, never to be heard from again. It's a slippery slope. Also, now with NIL, a lot of these kids can make a lot more money in college than they could by going straight to the G-League anyway. So many dudes get stuck in the G League too just bussing around from one no-name city to the next for 10 years making $35K a year.

Yep. I have said all along, I'll believe it when I see it. Unless there is a $5+ million, 1-year NIL deal in the works, why would he stay? 😆
I haven't heard a believable reason yet, nothing that makes sense.

If the kid ends up going pro, Cal will get murdered in the media and by UK fans for lying and if that does happen, my only question would be, why didn't you just tell us from the beginning that this was the plan? There's no hiding it, eventually everyone is going to notice Sharpe isn't on the 22/23 UK roster.

Cal, Sharpe, and Sharpe's parents still seem to be pretty adamant that he'll be at UK next season from what I have read. Again, I'll believe it when this year's draft comes and goes and he's not in it.

He's practicing, individual training, getting weight training, nutrition all the benefits that UK can help developing a player. You tell me where a player can get 1 place better development than UK let alone 100 lol Plus Cal says he's coming back and he says he's coming back.

The original plan, he wasn't going to play this year. It takes more than a month or 2 to get freshman up to speed.
He can get all those benefits with a private trainer. How hard and often does Kentucky even practice during the heart of the season?

He can get better development playing pro ball over seas.

He can get the exact same level of development at probably 15 other schools.

He can get better development by going to an elite high school academy where he'll actually play games.

Really? You think playing say 10 hours of total game time (30 mpg x 20 games) is what is going to boost his development as compared to hundreds of hours practicing against more talented players than he would be playing against in 99.999% of those games anyway? The vast majority of player development doesn't happen during the games, it happens behind the scenes when he is practicing with his team, getting 1-on-1 instruction, studying film, etc.

I don't agree. I think the vast majority of player development happens in the off season, but there's no substitute for in game experience vs good players.

He should've gone to Europe. Guy would come back a seasoned vet if he went to Europe.

Of course there's no substitute for in-game experience, but that aspect is much more about building team cohesion, chemistry, and familiarity with your teammates during live game situations. It's not so much about skill development. That's what practice is for.

I thought Calipari nudged them out the door when it was in their best interest. Now he's lobbying for a dude projected 7th to come back? 🤣

The difference between the #1 pick and #7 pick is about $7 million over 2 years. Not exactly chump change. Buuuut, he could enter the draft now and get to that max contract quicker a couple years down the road if he progresses as advertised. Then $7 million would be about 1/5th of his annual salary.. If it's me, I'm trying to make as much money as I can as soon as I can.

The kid is an athlete and not a rose petal. If you had a child that showed promise as a player would you lock him his room to protect him or train him which would expose him to possible injury?
Id send him to the draft to make a few million as a top ten pick

In the nba playing and practicing with the beat players in the world as well as unlimited access to instruction from nba coaches. If hes good enough to be the 7th pick now, and the first pick next year, there shouldnt be too much worry about him getting buried in the G league.

I just couldnt risk that cash if it was me and id say the same thing if he was enrolled at UL instead of UK.

But who knows maybe he does cone back and play lights out and becomes the number one pick next year who knows. First world problems for sure
