Many UK fans are convinced that Jay Bilas is a giant Duke lover, even though Duke fans have been jumping on Jay for YEARS for actually trying TOO hard to avoid praising Duke. You can't help it with some people.

I would say at the time of the hire Kelvin Sampson was a bigger catch than John Beilein. He wasn't by a whole lot, since Beilien was just starting to make a name for himself, but Sampson had the better career and was part of the reason why the Big 12 was such a good conference in the first half of that decade.Fun fact:

Jay Bilas is the best in the business. I do feel the Duke 'love' has maybe been amped up a notch the last season or two, but part of that is also maybe him just being Jay. He did take the approach sometimes, IMO, to make a point of NOT supporting Duke and maybe coming across as being hard on them. For the most part, I've always thought he was fair.

He’s an excellent analyst, but I’m not sure that translates to being a good coach. Chapel has more experience than him and although he can recruit he’s less than stellar as a coach. Bilas would have to start as an assistant. You can’t just pluck him from the broadcasting booth and experiment to pick up where I left off. I know duke can recruit it’s self with k but I’m not sold that kids would go there to a coach that has zero experience

You guys are both UK fans, which makes you really sensitive, I think, to everything Duke.
As a Duke fan, I can tell you for a fact that for YEARS many, many Duke fans have felt that Bilas has been not just unbiased, but in fact has overdone his distance from Duke, especially compared to so many guys who have no issue being true to the school they played for, from Len Elmore to Cory Alexander to Jason Williams to Stuart Scott to Jalen Rose to Bill Walton to Kenny Smith. For years he seemed loathe to compliment but quick to call out. For YEARS. To the point where people speculated that there may have been something about him leaving his coaching job at Duke.
Jay is a great analyst, and is complimentary of the teams that are good. He has been a bit better about expressing the warmth towards Duke that we all know he has. But trying to paint him as some Duke homer is simply about being over sensitive and probably a bit biased against anything possibly Duke.

You haven't payed much attattent to me if you think I'm sensitive to anything Duke. I have absolutely zero hate for Duke and have said nothing but positive things about Duke on any forum I post in. I challenge you to show a post where I said anything negative towards Duke.
I have no hatred for K either. UK fans that hate K and Duke are showing obvious jealousy. Anyone that says they would never want K for a coach is lying out his/her ass.

Actually, there is one guy that I would love to see take the reigns of the NCAA at that guy is Jay Bilas. He would be perfect for it .
But I still think he's a Duke homer and how could he not be? He played at Duke, under K, for 4 years. He can try to hide it by going to bat for UNC during the scandal and acting like he's being hard on Duke, but he lays it on a little thick for my taste.

Bilas isn’t a giant Duke homer. He just isn’t. Just because you went to school somewhere doesn’t make you a homer, which nearly everyone accepts to mean someone who is overly enthusiastic about their own school, usually to the point of it being a shortcoming. Is he a proud Duke grad? Sure. Is he a giant homer who irrationally pumps Duke? No. As someone who has paid far closer attention to both Duke and Jay over the decades I’ve followed Duke ball, I am comfortable making that assessment.
Duke won the title which led to about half a dozen Rafters posters starting threads listing Kentucky’s all time achievements and North Carolina still cheated and got away with it.

You really cant believe this!! BTW, did you ever listen to Hubert Davis when he was with ESPN. If you visit Duke boards, you would know that most Duke fans believe Jay is the furthest from the Duke homer that there is. He is honest and speaks his mind and at times, goes completely the opposite and hammers Duke.

If I'd have to guess, if Donovan hadn't made the jump back to college yet...it'll be him. There are always way too many rumours going around about him wanting to go back for there to not be some truth to it. There wouldn't be any higher profile jobs he could pick from in the college game. It's the only school who has ESPN stomping for them 24 hours a day.

No doubt that Bilas loves Duke, but on air he definitely comes off more Pro UK/Kansas/UNC. Especially UNC.
