I don't know about being a Duke homer, but he is a contrarian. His anti-NCAA schtick is tiresome.

Is Jay Bilas wrong about Jones?

He does not pump Dukle constantly. He talks about them when he is covering them though. Would you rather he not talk about one of the teams and its players while he is calling said teams game?

So ESPN has an edict to pump up Duke and never say anything negative? Keep in mind that the network you are talking about had an article on its from page about Duke's most hated white players. Sounds all rosy and nothing but positive press to me. Seth Greenburg says a lot of things about Duke and if you want to take a look at those things, not much is ever positive.

Jay Bilas is an individual thinker and he absolutely has been rough on Duke over the years. There is a reason a rather large portion of the Duke fan base is very against his style and approach to the program he played and coached for. It isn't that way because he is a Duke homer.
Ha ha, I put this in the same category as KU fans saying that Fran Friscilla hates KU.

Do you remember what Duke did before the Tournament started in 2017? They won 4 games in 4 days, with limited depth (1st time a team won the ACC Tournament playing on 4 straight days). They took down 3 straight top 25 teams, including two top ten teams. Yes, that was kid of impressive. Single elimination tournaments can blow everything up, like they often do. See UVA in 2018, Villanova in 2017, Michigan State in 2016, etc. It happens. Doesn't mean it was a bad team - or season.

Don't confuse them with facts.

Many UK fans are convinced that Jay Bilas is a giant Duke lover, even though Duke fans have been jumping on Jay for YEARS for actually trying TOO hard to avoid praising Duke. You can't help it with some people.

This is how I wish things would have went down for Knight. It doesn't mean he(Knight) makes the right choice; nor does it mean "K" will. BUT....I'd sure feel better about either of those picking the next coach, than an AD.....Especially ours.

IMO, Indiana basketball "died" with Knight. It died well before his firing. Had he retired, and rode off----I cannot help but think IU would be much better off.

Fun fact:

When IU hired Kelvin Sampson, the administation was torn between two, final candidates. You know who the they picked Sampson over?

John Beilein.

IU powers to be wanted to make a minority hiring. Money had some tings to do with it as well. Just goes to show you how inept our administration has been.

Damn it, JOhn.....Why couldn't you been black....or latino...:D
I heard this. Glass wanted him and Prez said no. Plus he cant recruit rep scared some big money boosters. Lol. Indiana coaches would have loved him.

I would say at the time of the hire Kelvin Sampson was a bigger catch than John Beilein. He wasn't by a whole lot, since Beilien was just starting to make a name for himself, but Sampson had the better career and was part of the reason why the Big 12 was such a good conference in the first half of that decade.

Jay Bilas is the best in the business. I do feel the Duke 'love' has maybe been amped up a notch the last season or two, but part of that is also maybe him just being Jay. He did take the approach sometimes, IMO, to make a point of NOT supporting Duke and maybe coming across as being hard on them. For the most part, I've always thought he was fair.

The segment of the Duke fan base that really dislikes him the most are when he says anything remotely positive about UNC. And it doesn't even matter if it's true. They don't want him to do his job. They want him hating the Heels as much as they hate them.

But wait, this belief, apparently, makes you a "******* moron" based on what I read a few posts back .
I thought you were a Duke fan?

And had put OU on probation. IU were morons.

Nobody is going to mention Bobby Hurley? He’s done nothing but win every where he has been. Is it true him and coach k don’t exactly get along? Not trolling just heard they never saw eye to eye. He would be the best chit for duke once I hangs it up in 25 years

Yes, bilas slobbers all over duke like stormy on trump. I get it he want there. The only time ive ever heard him criticizes saint k was for not doing halftime interviews. I’m sure he was reprimanded for doing so

He’s an excellent analyst, but I’m not sure that translates to being a good coach. Chapel has more experience than him and although he can recruit he’s less than stellar as a coach. Bilas would have to start as an assistant. You can’t just pluck him from the broadcasting booth and experiment to pick up where I left off. I know duke can recruit it’s self with k but I’m not sold that kids would go there to a coach that has zero experience

Like you both, so I’ll put it evenly.

You guys are both UK fans, which makes you really sensitive, I think, to everything Duke.

As a Duke fan, I can tell you for a fact that for YEARS many, many Duke fans have felt that Bilas has been not just unbiased, but in fact has overdone his distance from Duke, especially compared to so many guys who have no issue being true to the school they played for, from Len Elmore to Cory Alexander to Jason Williams to Stuart Scott to Jalen Rose to Bill Walton to Kenny Smith. For years he seemed loathe to compliment but quick to call out. For YEARS. To the point where people speculated that there may have been something about him leaving his coaching job at Duke.

Jay is a great analyst, and is complimentary of the teams that are good. He has been a bit better about expressing the warmth towards Duke that we all know he has. But trying to paint him as some Duke homer is simply about being over sensitive and probably a bit biased against anything possibly Duke.

Only read part of it.

You haven't payed much attattent to me if you think I'm sensitive to anything Duke. I have absolutely zero hate for Duke and have said nothing but positive things about Duke on any forum I post in. I challenge you to show a post where I said anything negative towards Duke.

I have no hatred for K either. UK fans that hate K and Duke are showing obvious jealousy. Anyone that says they would never want K for a coach is lying out his/her ass.

As far as Jay Bilas, I guess I just see his slants differently than you do. I don't know why that makes me a moron.

Actually, there is one guy that I would love to see take the reigns of the NCAA at that guy is Jay Bilas. He would be perfect for it .

But I still think he's a Duke homer and how could he not be? He played at Duke, under K, for 4 years. He can try to hide it by going to bat for UNC during the scandal and acting like he's being hard on Duke, but he lays it on a little thick for my taste.

I’m glad you don’t auto hate everything Duke.

You probably should have read what I wrote, especially since you ended up writing even more. My many examples of guys who are far more “homer” than Jay might have helped.

Bilas isn’t a giant Duke homer. He just isn’t. Just because you went to school somewhere doesn’t make you a homer, which nearly everyone accepts to mean someone who is overly enthusiastic about their own school, usually to the point of it being a shortcoming. Is he a proud Duke grad? Sure. Is he a giant homer who irrationally pumps Duke? No. As someone who has paid far closer attention to both Duke and Jay over the decades I’ve followed Duke ball, I am comfortable making that assessment.

Ok so who is wotthy in your opinion to take over? Don’t say Donovan or stevens cause that sure as shit ain’t happening. Same with Bennett. Duke fans would not enjoy his style of play. What other dukie could come in besides huy and take over? Maybe wojo? Problem is, he has yet to prove anything. You could st the same for Hurley, but atleast he can recruit and his teams are always ranked. I would love to see you guys get capel. Great recruiter, terrible coach

So the only people we could try to get are people who wouldn’t take the job, guys whose style we wouldn’t enjoy, two guys who haven’t proven anything yet, or a terrible coach. Makes sense.

Shouldnt he win some games in the dance before Duke considers him? Has never won a game in March madness.

If there's truly a basketball God....Tom Crean will be the very first call they make! When a reporter asks him why he left Georgia, he will give a classic response of "Because, its Duke, its Duke!

The next person on their list would have been Mike Davis. But that man will have a psychotic breakdown if he took the job. He's a nice guy, so I'd hate to see him go through that. So, I'm really pulling for Crean to say yes!

Um....I can't agree with you here....Knight was the person who left his son, Pat Knight in charge when he stepped down at Texas Tech.

What? I was talking about him and K not getting along

No, you're post was the one that made no sense.
How can you watch/listen to Jay Bilas and come away thinking he is not a complete Duke homer.
Look at the ridiculous rant he went on when Tre Jones wasn't listed as one of the best defenders in the country.
He pumps duke constantly. Is he going to pick some things out to make it seem like he's not a complete home? Hell yeah, but that dude is more than happy to pump the crap out of Duke, which is clearly what ESPN wants them to do.
Seth Greensburg completely threw ESPN under the bus 2 years ago when he said on air that he isn't going to cave to ESPN and pump Duke because it wasn't right.
Jay Bias and ESPN are perfect for each other. They both pump Duke.
I'm stunned that there is someone on here (you) that doesn't see how much of a homer Bilas is.
I used to love hearing his takes, but he's a different dude now.
Maybe he'll change once K's nuts aren't in his mouth.
You really cant believe this!! BTW, did you ever listen to Hubert Davis when he was with ESPN. If you visit Duke boards, you would know that most Duke fans believe Jay is the furthest from the Duke homer that there is. He is honest and speaks his mind and at times, goes completely the opposite and hammers Duke.

I wonder how many laws of physics your stupidity breaks I’d you couldn’t tell that I was trying to be funny.
In all fairness, I don't think anyone is really following along with this one!

LMAO....dear God, bud....don't take this forum so seriously. How is it even remotely possible to 1. Not understand that my post was a stupid joke...you know....like yours was? And 2. What type of miserable personal life do you have to get this triggered over a one sentence joke THAT WAS AGREEING WITH YOU? Lmao

If I'd have to guess, if Donovan hadn't made the jump back to college yet...it'll be him. There are always way too many rumours going around about him wanting to go back for there to not be some truth to it. There wouldn't be any higher profile jobs he could pick from in the college game. It's the only school who has ESPN stomping for them 24 hours a day.

I believe that if IU had offered to make him the highest paid coach at 9 or 10 million....it's not a forgone conclusion that he wouldn't be at IU right now. But when IU, will only offer less then he's making right now...there's no way. But, Duke would pay him whatever it took imo...and I hate to say it, but they are hands down the highest profile school right now.

No doubt that Bilas loves Duke, but on air he definitely comes off more Pro UK/Kansas/UNC. Especially UNC.
