I just read a father that had 3 different daughters abused by this POS had a chance to speak today.

Randall Margraves asked the judge, as part of her sentencing, to give him five minutes alone with Nassar. When the judge said she couldn’t do that, he then asked for one minute. When she said no again, he rushed at the defendant’s table, but was quickly subdued by bailiffs.

I think thats exactly what should happen to this guy---let the dads level justice. I sure hope this dad doesn't face any legal action for this.

I get the macho angry reaction.. But you are telling me this father had this happen to all 3 of his daughters and never had any idea prior to this trial and it's charges that it happened? Hate to say it without knowing this guy at all but dude sounds oblivious and unaware as a parent.

Really bad take, here.

If the girls don't say anything, how is he supposed to know?

Half of the battle here is encouraging women to speak out (as they should). Women have felt suppressed for so long, it's engrained in so many of them to bottle up when something tragic happens.

If no one says anything, how was he supposed to know?

I had a family member who was sexually assaulted. YEARS went by before she told anybody anything. How was anyone supposed to know otherwise?

Not bad parenting, just a horrific situation.

Whoa.

Uh... that's a hard post to get behind. How on earth would a dad know his daughters are being abused by a well-known and respected doctor, especially when the girls themselves, who were kids when it happened, didn't know?

Dude. That's not victim blaming, but its something awful close.

As for the dad, I feel for the guy. Also feel for his daughters... you see, in the background, his daughter yell out "Dad!" and then cringe when he goes for it. Hoping that dad just gets a slap on the wrist for it.

This view is unfortunately fairly mainstream. We live in such a shitty society

I could live my life happily behind bars for the rest of my life if I put the POS in the ground that ever did that to my little girl. I can’t imagine how this father must feel having it done to THREE of his babies. **** that guy and I hope he finds the meatiest blackest Dick daily until he dies in prison

Agree.

We should be able to trust certain people. Some take advantage of that trust, but all of that is on them. Obviously there is tremendous pain, guilt, and personal second-guessing that goes on in response to such awful outcomes, but it's important that we don't mistake peripheral victims for guilty parties.

One of the most complex and cruel things about sexual abuse is how it creates feelings of shame in victims. Have your wallet stolen and first thing you do is report it. The first thing a lot of rape victims do is to take a shower, which destroys evidence. I suspect part of it in the US is connected to really unhealthy, Puritanical attitudes about sex, but it's certainly way more complicated than that.

This example, though, is a really good one for emphasizing the need for victims to speak up, and more so, the need for the rest of us to help them speak up. Presumably, the first sister's silence made it possible for Nassar to assault the second sister, whose silence made it possible for him to assault the third sister. As a society, we're responsible for creating a culture where victims feel empowered to speak up without shame, which in turn will likely lead to their stopping a would-be rapist before he even gets the chance.

Good. There was no actual harm (which would've given Nassar legit legal grounds to pursue) and it's soooooo understandable for him to feel that way.

Don't think it even would've mattered then. I think any judge would've dismissed his charges even if he were to pursue if he was touched.

There are some dads who were told by their kids and didn't believe them. Pretty sure that guy wasn't one of them though. Can't blame him at all.

If I had 3 daughters of different age groups that went thru the Nassar thing and either myself or my wife never were present during any of those examinations I would hold it over my head that I failed as a protector and a parent. Who the hell lets there kids in any room with a doctor solo? Everytime when I was a kid until I got late HS age where I was driving , my mom or dad was in the room and if they stepped out it was for a minute.

Very happy he won't be charged with anything.
He shouldn't be. We should just be able to drag Nassar out back somewhere and bludgeon him to death rather than prison time. Though he is gonna get axed in prison by someone. I guarantee you that!

See my response to @Tampa_cat54 for most of this for the adult/parent perspective to this.

I had a HS age boy who was neighbor to my grandparents when I was about 7-8 years old visiting them make a very inappropriate pass at me when I was a kid playing outside. Maybe I was simply lucky? But I was always preached to as young as I can remember about inappropriate touching and anything like that from someone older to start yelling , screaming , run , and even be physical if I had to. As soon as I realized it my butt ran back to my grandmas and told them. It ruined the friendship and the people moved away shortly after because of how my folks and grandparents reacted when they confronted the boy and his parents. He denied it. Yes it's not a medical professional but nobody would of thought that kid would of tried what he did before it happened. So nobody thinks I am just spouting off non sense on my other post , I have been in that scary situation as a kid.

If you read the ESPN article, Nasser molested a girl even with the father in the freaking room. Apparently that creep knew how to shield his body in a way that the parents couldn't see.

This take is shit.

Hindsight is 20, etc.

I'm sure many of those parents are beating themselves up for it, and some older victims who were silent may be, too. However much they may be able to absolve themselves logically, the emotional guilt would still be really hard to deal with. There's no more immediate parenting responsibility and desire than to keep your kids safe, and any time they're endangered or/and harmed, it rips your heart out.

From what I understand, practices could be 4 hours long, so parents didn't stick around. If treatment happened during that time, they wouldn't be there, and understandably so. My two daughters see a female doctor and it's always my wife who takes them, but she gets kicked out of the room so the doctor can ask the girls questions confidentially. Doctors, teachers, coaches, clergy, and law enforcement are just some of the professionals people trust their kids with all the time. Society as we know it kind of depends on it.

Wait, serious question; are you a girl?

And yeah... from what I've read, a lot of this was difficult because there was SUCH a thin line between legit and not... like, it was the difference between glove and not glove in many cases.

I don't know, I have a hard time holding some 150 sets of parents really responsible, especially when the kids themselves may not have realized what was going on... I mean, if everyone says "It is legit for this man to put his fingers in your vagina for this health care reason"... how would you know the difference between *good* fingers-in-the-vagina and *bad* fingers-in-the-vagina?

That is too quick.Bludgeon within an inch of life.Give him time to recover and repeat process over and over

How do you know the dad maybe knew and said nothing in the moment? Something doesn't get as big as this Nassar thing and multiple adults not be aware of what was going on. That is MSU staff and parents around it. Sorry man not buying that. You can't throw the parents in jail for it but to act like that many parents for that many years didn't have any clue or know anything is really hard for me to believe.

I think some of these parents had their eyes on the fact that their kid was gonna be this great athlete and didn't pay attention to anything but trying to push their kids to pursue an athletic dream. Parents do that and way more than you might like to realize in this world.

Kids of any gender can get molested , I can't believe that was your actual rebuttal to that. Are you a girl? Are you serious?

Some folks on this make me question if I should even want to bring kids into this world.

Whoa whoa whoa, tiger. What the **** are you talking about? I just asked if you were a girl, because I didn't know if you were... the only girls I know that post here are Kistek and BKO, and I wondered if I had missed something that was common knowledge. It wasn't a rebuttal, and who doesn't know that anyone can molested? I was just asking because I didn't know. Chill the **** out.

And your take... that these parents likely knew their daughters were being molested, but they were so blinded by the potential of... what, gymnastics fame...?... that they just let it happen? Pretty crazy take; basically accusing these parents of being monsters. Sorry man (or girl?)... I'm not buying it.

Right? It defies any and all reactions any normal human has had to this entire affair.

"I think these parents knew their little kids were being molested for years, but wanted to become famous for backflips!"

THAT makes more sense to you than some asshole pervert figured out how to molest girls for year without being caught, which is exactly what everyone involved is saying happened?

STFU with that BS.

You believe Nassar was the "Houdini of Molesters" and tricked 150 something parents over 20 some years? US Gymnastics while not interesting as a sport to this board. It is a big honor for people in that sport , so yea I believe at least some parents turned a blind eye to some degree and devoutly believed in the program.
