***March Madness Opening Weekend Thread '25***

Oh Jimbo. Everyone has acknowledged that the SEC was the best conference. It is just sad to see the fan base of the winningest program in CBB and owners of 8 national championships join the likes of Auburn, Alabama and South Carolina fans with their weird obsession with conference success. Those fans don't have anything else to celebrate other than conference pride. Kentucky has a lot of prestigious accomplishments without needing their conference to be elite.
Yea but when the SEC was bad all we heard was dumbasses yelling “Kentucky don’t play anybody in the SEC” so yea it’s nice to see these other schools not being an embarrassment! Go SEC!!!!

SEC was very good at the top: Bama, Fla, AU and Tenn..

Rest was good/ok. Really solid conference. But not the juggernaut it was made out by the media.

Even the upsets don't really feel like upsets.

Been thinking the same thing. Yes we’ve had a couple 12/5 but they didn’t feel like upsets. CSU/Memphis the line was Memphis -2. Arkansas/Kansas wasnt really an upset as an 7/10. Drake bearing Missouri wasn’t shocking at all. Etc. so many games have been straight ass kickings.

I do wonder if the portal/NIL is the cause. You don’t have as many veteran laden mid majors who have played together for years. Guys in those leagues that can play now transfer to bigger schools for the money.

Reminds me of 2019 tourney. First two rounds were pretty meh but it led to some pretty incredible second weekend games. That collection of Elite 8 games is up there with the best of all time. I’m hoping 2025 is just about delay of gratification

You want to lose the championship game again because your star player made one of the worst defensive lapses of all time? Cool cool
If it means getting to another FF and into the title game again....sure.

My opinion on it is, the SEC killed it in the pre conference, they did things top to bottom, that we haven't seen before. Of course, having 16 teams is pretty new. Every team not named LSU came away with big wins.

When it comes to March and the tournament, it comes down to who is hot and who is not.

We have seen teams suck all year, then get hot right as the tournament starts and it doesn’t matter what conference they came from.

Right now, the teams that look hot to me are Florida, Tennessee, BYU, Houston, Texas Tech and Arizona. Maybe Gonzaga too.

I also like Michigan State and aTm, but they play very physical and tend to let teams hang around, so I'm hesitant to put much stock in them.

Then there's Duke, they've been hot all year long, the health of Flagg is important for them, but they have to possibly play a couple of those hot teams I listed above. Arizona is a different team now.

But back to my point, conference affiliation doesn't help much right now, it comes down to if you're clicking as a team, or not.

If we played the tournament in January, Auburn would be my pick, but they're only running on 7 cylinders right now.

Florida looks to be the pick right now, I don’t know who beats them.

Oregon and Arizona both looked great in round 1 and are both well represented in Seattle. Round of 32 game will have a PAC 12 Championship feel to it

There is something to be said for winning. It breeds confidence and reinforces good behaviors. The SEC teams that finished below .500 in conference are 1-5 in the tourney.

The BIG10 is killing it so far in this tournament. I'm not sure their is a team that can win a title, but they're owning the first weekend.

We usually get quite a few B1G teams in and then by the second weekend there’s 1/4 of them left

Seems the ACC took that role from the B1G this year
