Insider in #Louisville tells me @XavierMBB’s #ChrisMack is fave — maybe a lock — for permanent coach of @LouisvilleMBB. “His program consistently over-achieves,” the source said. Mack also knows the region: from CLE, lives in N. KY near Cincy, played in Evansville.

Can't embed tweets at work, but caught this over on RR. Didn't see anything about it over here yet. Think this would be one hell of a hire if you all can do it.

Would be awesome. DP is still great too, maybe have him be assistant to Mack perhaps?
Might be wishful thinking if U of L continues on the upward trend the rest of the season. If Padgett does well this season and you guys hire Mack, he takes a head coaching gig elsewhere IMO. He's earned it at that point.

I would be happy with the hire, I also wouldn’t be too upset if Padgett got the job either.

The good and the bad of having a wife with Louisville ties and being 90 minutes up the road is that Mack almost certainly has a good idea of the chaotic nature and relationships right now between the Board of Trustees (who the Athletics folks have a growing hatred for), a primary booster in Schnatter who himself has virtually eroded support..and the three primary positions involving decision makers having Interim tags on their names. There is no consensus among anyone as to whether they should have a President then AD before reaching out to a permanent head coach...and given the nature of debt being run up from the Foundation mess, the almost certain high price tag of a buyout for Jurich's contract (which will get paid regardless of how hard they fight it) and the likely negotiated terms for Pitino...and Oh Yeah let's tack on a potential additional rumored $15 million penalty from the NCAA...and I'd say the likelihood of being able to even afford a Chris Mack simply isn't there.

It's why if I'm established early morning favorites, I'm thinking Padgett is still head man a year from now.

Look at all the problems UL will have to face .......... getting sued by everyone... probably having to give money back to the NCAA along with banners.... the Yum was renegotiated ... and the FBI / NCAA punishments havent even started yet....

after all of that... xavier in the big east is probably the better school right now... at least for the next 5 or so years.

If he wants the UL job... let padgett fumble his way through the chaos era coming up and take the UL job in 5 years.

You don’t realize just how much money U of L has. It’s kinda stupid.

How well will Mack be able to recruit, is the question I would have? What is ULs recruiting foot print?

I have a lot of respect for him as an Xs and Os guy.

He can recruit. Xavier had three 4-star guys in this year's class, 2 last year, 3 in 2014, etc. These guys are from all over the place too. I think only one is from anywhere near Cincinnati. You take that success from a small Jesuit program and put him in a major conference with a major recruiting budget, facilities, etc. and it's easy to see he would be successful.

Mack would be a great hire then. I remember that kid Mark Lyons he recruited...tough as nails, and didn't take any shit from the Bearcats lol.

I dont think you realize how much money you lost......... including income from boosters who cut ties
Past revenue doesn’t just go away. Athletics isn’t hurting like you wish they would. It’s a setback no doubt, but you’re acting like it’s going to be a chapter 11 scenario, sorry daddio, ain’t happening.

We're currently building a $55 million football expansion, an $8 million ACC video room, and an $80 million academic building. UofL just opened up a whole Student Rec Center that cost $37.5 million in 2013. Yes, UofL has money. Louisville Athletics brought in about $112 million revenue in 15-16. Raw data.

you mean you have money tied up into other things ......

Have they found new tenants for the Yum! Center yet? Last I heard that was a financial nightmare.

You can’t disrepect Padgett for what he’s done this season. However, even though the record shows 16-5, there have been plenty of mediocre games and lack of development. Here lately it has gotten better and I will give him loads of credit if he beats UNC, UVA, Duke, makes tourney run, any or multiple of those, etc.

However, you simply cannot judge his coaching ability with the players on this team. Pre-season we were top 5 and projected a deep tourney run. There have been times where us UofL fans thought we might not get in the tourney mid season, and we still may not.

I’d argue for days that any good proven coach (Mack) would have a better record than 16-5 with this type of talent on this team and we’d be ranked. I understand why we arent ranked now. We dont have a current top 25 win. We havent proven we should be ranked.

We dont even know how Padgett will do with his OWN players. In my opinion and many others, Louisville is not the place for a test run. Padgett will most likely get a job a mid major, unless he wants to move back to Assistant coach, which I would love for him to stay if he wanted to do that. Great assistant.

Like @Kevin Bryan said, Mack would do wonders here at UofL. If he’s getting 4*’s at Xavier, he should have no problem getting that talent and better at UofL. Xavier doesn’t even have a football team. That shows you that UofL is a big step up even with the things going on. He’s a great coach. The money will be a huge raise. No matter how you look at it, if you take your blinders off, UofL is still a big jump from Xavier and still a top 10 program.

Quite frankly, not sure a lot of people actually expect much repercussion from the FBI situation. It wasnt just us and the new administration got all of the scum out of the program. Andre McGee situation is over with and doesn’t effect the future besides a few scholly reductions here and there. The set back isnt going to be as big as some blue blinders think. Especially with, as expected by many, Chris Mack arriving in late April.

People keep saying that, but the place is still creating revenue outside of sporting events, and as it pains those who live in other cities who are distraught about paying their “hard earned taxes on it”, it’s not going away. Suppose you guys can continue to bitch and ridicule it, but it is what it is.

Agree with most of this, but guaranteeing a coach by a certain time frame, isn’t logical at this point. We take what we have, which is good, as of right now. Focus on this year, and the down years ahead will probably be a realistic problem, but it’s not the end all be all. The program/ school will come out of this, and as you said, U of L is a top ten program that will sustain its stature.

Not bitching at all. I think it's a great venue. Doesn't take anything out of my taxes either. But the revenue it generates versus what is owed on it just doesn't come close to being a good investment. I read an article from December that the arena authority just sold nearly $400 million in bonds to get a lower interest rate in order to restructure the debt just to avoid default. It isn't even projected to be paid off until 2054, which would make it older than Rupp is right now... in other words, a dinosaur. Louisville really needs an NBA franchise that would play 45+ games there every year.

yeah UL deserves next level....................... next level down.

at least for the next 4 or so years anyways. caught twice cheating like mad animals...... and have yet to suffer a bad season out of it..... they deserve a few 14 win seasons and then maybe they earned the right to get back on the track.

....have you even paid any attention to the attendance at the men's basketball games? You might be getting more going to see the women's team play. With the Yum center operating in the red and everything that Ramsey and Co. did with university funds, your perception that uofl still has a lot of money is off, to say the least...

I'm one of the few Louisville fans who would be on board with that.

Are U of L fans not behind an NBA team? I figured if you live in Kentucky (in your case born) you'd be all about having an NBA franchise. My guess is if you're a Louisville or a Kentucky fan and don't want an NBA team, you fail to recognize the Cards and Cats will always come first in the hierarchy of sports in the state.

Porcini rejected an NBA team coming here, so it may be in question now.

A lot of posters on the board I'm banned from lol, do not and I repeat DO NOT want a Nba team. Not sure the logic, maybe some aren't fans of the the Nba and others think it will take away from the University. I personally would love it, as I can't stand the Warriors here in the Bay, yet still go to Oracle because it's fun af to watch the best of the best play. I don't see any reason why any fan, regardless of allegiance, would consider it a bad idea for an Nba team to come to Louisville and play at the Yum.

With you all the way. Hell, UK fans and U of L fans can finally come together over something basketball related Laughing
