So is Arkansas’ Daniel Gattford.

New trend? Laughing

I wouldn't play if I was Langford injury or not, but it isn't like he completely left school like Gattford.

Who gives a shit about the NIT?

I know I will get some flack for saying this. But any player who sits out, NIT or not, should immediately be released from school. We recruited you to help our program while housing you and offering you a chance at an education and you bail out on your team? Bye. Not that it would be much of a loss to the player, but at least it would inconvenience them by having to pack their shit sooner than expected.

I'm fully on board with this. Play out your last game with pride and fulfill your responsibility to Indiana.

Officially it’s a back issue but it’s the 260 something ranked team, frankly don’t care if it’s legit or precaution.

Right see zero issue with it especially with even a little tweak of the back

His back is sore. Nothing to see here. Kid gave effort in all his games from what I could tell. Taking cheap shots at him now is unwarranted.

Ehhh no. It's the NIT, it means nothing even if you win it. If it was the NCAA tournament then yeah obviously you play but NIT is baby shit.

Agreed

They didn’t recruit him to win the NIT.

Sure, but Langford was there with his team all year to help lead them to that baby shit and doesn't even suffer with them.

If it is at all to due with an injury, my stance would be different, though.

I know, they recruited him to lead them to the NCAA's. I know Indiana dealt with a lot of injuries and that had most to do with their end result. But if you think you're good enough to sit out on your team to save yourself for the draft, then you probably should have been good enough to not lose to Rutgers.

College football players already do this on the non playoff bowls...

Yep, but football is a lot more dangerous from a game to game perspective. Plus only 4 teams are playing for a title.

I think we might start to see more Zion situations going forward where high end players shut it down for the month of February and just come back for the tournament.

Disagree about that in my opinion- don't think a first rounder would ever sit-out the ncaa tourney for potential injury reasons- but I've been wrong before....

He had back issues in HS as well. Missed a game over it. Apparently, he banged it up pretty good vs OSU.

It would hurt the school's team grades. Otherwise, I agree.

Easy to say that now.
It is....But I mean, why lie? His description of Romeo's injury was pretty in-depth. It irrelevant IMO. If he's giving Romeo an out for not playing----Kudo's to Miller for taking the heat off his kid. I applaud that. But I don't think that is the case.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a lie for it to not be true. He might believe that now, but it's easier to say that when you don't actually have to make the choice.

Ahhhh, gotcha. Misunderstood you.

The nit is really just a head start on the next season. If you’re not going to be there next season than you’re actually doing your team a favor by sitting out.

Maybe not sit out, But basically shut down and still play at the same time yes...Andrew Wiggins says hey..

I also liked the take that he shouldn't be able to travel with the team or go to school, yeah that would really put him off having to start his personal pre draft boot camps and getting his signing bonus fronted, Like Romeo has set foot in a classroom since first semester lol .

I'm not sure what Romeo added to IU or vice versa. I remember how excited everyone was in Indiana when he announced. It seems polar opposite of how he left.

Miller stated in his presser had IU been in the NCAA tonight, Romeo would not have played.
Of course he did. This is just way of the world now. Non playoff bowls and the NIT are not games certain high draft picks will play in.

If u really believe Archie, u are really naive or dumb.

I didn't say that. I said first rounders might start doing what Zion did and sit out the month before the tournament and then come back in time for the post season.

So Zion simply sat out, huh? Nothing to do with his injury and the team not rushing him back. He just decided to sit out..

Yes, that's 100% what I believe. He wasn't injured. He slightly banged up his knee and was able to walk on his own power off the court and back to the locker room which he did with a barely noticeable limp. Then his family immediately ran down to the locker room where a lengthy discussion was held, so long that Zion didn't even return to the bench despite such a minor injury.

I'm convinced that his family pushed for him to sit the rest of the year to protect draft status and eventually a compromise was reached where Zion would sit the rest of the regular season and then return for the post season.

I've never seen someone suffer a knee sprain that is so severe it requires the player to miss several weeks and yet that player was able to ambulate on his own with only a very slight limp. Compare to Marvin Bagley who suffered the same grade 1 knee sprain that had him out 1-2 weeks. Bagley was in such pain he had to be carried off the court. THAT is the normal reaction of someone suffering a knee sprain that is severe enough to warrant several weeks off.
