Is Florida the new UConn?

I was thinking about how UF is now closer to IU and Duke than they are to UK.

*Also going forward, would you rather have Golden or Hurley?

Nah no way. UCONN is the goat drive by title getter. I did see a funny meme on reddit the other day though. Lemme see if I can find it.

Nah, jokes aside I had to get one jab in while I can, because next year who knows how good we'll be. I'm already thinking UK's roster's gonna be TOUGH. How the hell did UK get Mo Diabate? He might be the toughest pound for pound player I saw play this year SMH.

Not as tough as a healthy Quaintance.

Pound for pound...Mo Diabate is soo tough. Quaintance is a freak though we had the pleasure of playing that guy as well. Quainatance will probably be the better player, but Mo Diabate is one of the best effort/hustle guys out there. Crazy versatile especially on Defense which is where UK needs help the most.

Indeed, I am very much looking forward to a (hopefully) improved defense, although UK made some strides in that department in the last 3rd of the season. Just not enough athleticism was the main culprit.

Diabate had a block on Cooper Flagg that was insanely impressive. Can't find it anywhere but Flagg had the angle on him and I think he got it with his left somehow. Took Flagg by complete surprise. More impressive than the dunk block everyone was talking about IMO.

According to his stats, I guess Quaintance played all season with a torn ACL? That is tough if so.
He seemed Healthy vs us but we played VERY early in the season when they still had a very positive outlook on everything. It's crazy how different a team looks when they mentally check out of a season.

Meh the Blue Bloods in my eyes will be Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, and UNC until they all have Indiana type droughts. UCLA I'm not sold. They had a crazy stretch that will never be duplicated, but at the same time they don't seem to be playing at the same table as the other 4 and haven't for quite some time. Indiana and UCLA would be back immediately with a finals appearance and or natty. They get quick a quick re-entry pass.

It would take more than 2 (additional*) final 4 appearances to put Florida at BB level. It would take an entire culture shift IMO.

edit: We can 100% become a basketball power without becoming a "blue blood". Not trying to be make this even be a negative, bc I'm not entirely sure being a BB is always a good thing. That pressure the BB's put on their programs/coaches is intense!

Florida didn’t make its first NCAA Tournament appearance until 1987, and the program didn’t really gain momentum until the mid-to-late 1990s. A lot of that has to do with the population growth in the state and the influx of money that came with it. Because of that, Florida is about 30 to 40 years behind much of the country in terms of basketball history, which makes it tough for the Gators to ever be considered a true "blue blood." On top of that, Florida will always be a football-first school.

That said, there’s nothing stopping UF from winning at the highest level in college basketball—as long as they have the right coach. And it looks like Todd Golden might be that guy. The biggest difference between Florida and programs like UNC or Kansas is that it’s simply harder for UF to find that right coach. But now that they have one, there’s no reason they can’t win just as much as those other programs.

NIL will be important, but Florida is already a player there. And with schools now able to share revenue with athletes, I don’t see that being a long-term issue for the Gators. Hell, with the advantage in state income tax, Florida might have a leg up on much of the opposition.

Yeah but being a blue blood is more than just about results imo.
I don’t really give a crap where people think we are, I just know that we won our third national championship in 20 years and we’ve been to six final four in 30 years and we’re 52 and 20 in the NCAA tournament

And currently were national champions

What color our blood is, I can give a rats ass

Agreed 100%

More importantly, if you’re a Gator, why were you saying we’ve only been to two final fours when we’ve been to six?
When did I say that? I said it would take more than 2 more FFs for us to be a blue blood (from that flow chart someone posted). Solely because being a blue blood would basically put football behind basketball when it comes to priority, which I don't think will ever happen at Florida. The flowchart said 8 FFs when we have 6.

tl:dr = "I guess you are right, Florida is not a BB"

Grok, is Golden a pervert

There is no definitive evidence or credible information to support labeling Todd Golden, the Florida Gators basketball coach, as a "pervert." In November 2024, Golden faced allegations of sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, and stalking, as reported by the University of Florida’s student newspaper, The Alligator. These claims included accusations of unwanted sexual advances via Instagram, sending inappropriate photos and videos, and showing up at locations where women were expected to be. A formal Title IX complaint was filed, prompting a months-long investigation by Florida’s Title IX office, which is independent of the athletics department.
On January 27, 2025, the university announced that the investigation found "no evidence" that Golden violated Title IX, and the case was closed. Golden’s attorney, William Shepherd, stated that the investigation supported Golden’s innocence, and Golden himself expressed gratitude for the support from the university and fans. Despite the allegations, he continued coaching throughout the season, leading the Gators to a national championship in April 2025.

However, the allegations and their public disclosure created significant controversy, with some skepticism about the university’s handling of the case, as reflected in posts on X questioning Florida’s moral judgment. Others on X noted the timing of Golden’s success and contract extension, suggesting a complex public perception. Without substantiating evidence, these remain opinions, not facts.

It’s worth considering that Title IX investigations can be thorough but aren’t infallible, and public sentiment often lingers regardless of official outcomes. The lack of evidence in this case suggests restraint in applying such a charged label, but the allegations’ severity understandably fuels speculation. If you’re digging into this, focus on primary sources like the university’s statements or court records, if any exist, rather than social media buzz.
