ESPN did a list ranking all national champions since 2000. The top ten:
10.23 UConn Huskies
9. 2008 Kansas Jayhawks
8.2005 UNC
7.2003 Uconn Huskies
6.2018 Villanova
5.2007 Florida
4.2024 Uconn Huskies
3.2012 Kentucky
2. 2009 UNC
1.2001 Duke-still salty about 2001 final four, though if MD wins it, prob does not win 2002 natty.

Winning football in 2010 and getting screwed over in 2019 in basketball

Before 2019 where were you and no, it's not a trick question.

Football title 15 years ago, before that when was your last title?

Are you going to throw some IU achievements up here?

2004 in football. 1993 before that. 1983 before that.

When one has to use another sport to boost their argument it tells me you've already lost.

Auburn doesn't have any notable achievements in their history so you bring up football so
what's next, womens gymnastics, mens volleyball?

meh. unc 2009 is to high. Hansborough being the ugliest dude in college basketball history disqualifies them
Same team as ‘08 UNC but with an extra year of experience for a few guys. That team was stomped by ‘08 KU. I’d move ‘08 KU up a few spots and ‘09 UNC down a few. KU ‘08 was better imo. And they won it in a stacked Final Four with four 1 seeds.

UNLV ran roughshod on duke in 1990 in the tourney, the following year the same teams met, exact same personnel except Grant Hill was a freshman, duke won that FF rematch and the next game they won the title.

UNC lost to KU in the FF, the same exact team came back the following year to win the the title. Ed Davis was a freshman and a key contributor to that team so who's to say KU would of won the rematch or they should be rated higher just because they won the year before?

Bottom line different team different year different mindset. Results don't carry over from year to year even if the personnel is virtually the same.

I'm 100% a homer, but I still take 2012 UK first. They have the best player in every single game they'd play. Never seen a player completely change the way they attack a defense like AD.

I think the top 10 is pretty solid though. Could argue a few other things, but ehh. I'd probably try to get Baylor into the top 10. But COVID changes the vibes of that tournament.

yeah your 2012 team was stacked. Even in the title game where Anthony Davis hardly scored. He still dominated the game in other ways

Sure. But I don't see the reasoning in UNC being listed so much higher than the '08 KU team.

KU had a better record than that UNC team, and won it all in a tougher field with a stacked final four. Then of course there is the game between the two in '08.

I don't see any reasoning in listing them higher much less THAT much higher.

It doesn't matter, teams change from year to year. Just because you won the first game doesn't mean you'll win the next one. Look at the NBA when they have best of 3/5 or 4/7. If you win the first game you were better that day, prove it again the next time.

Your reasoning is that you don't have one.

2007 Florida should be higher. They won the title in 2006, returned all 5 starters, and won it again in 2007. That team was talented, big, and old.

2019 UVA is severely underrated in this list. Went 35-3 (16-2) in a stacked ACC. The ACC had 3 1-seeds that year and UVA's only losses were to #1 overall seed Duke twice. They also lost to 4-seed FSU in the ACC semis. #2 in offensive efficiency and #5 in defensive efficiency. That's absolutely elite. People put too much stock in the 6-game sample size of the NCAA tourney too much when ranking these champs. Over the course of the entire season, 2019 UVA is a top 10 champ since 2000.

yea but that double dribble/travel....

Ill never understand the disrespect for 2008 Kansas team. Honestly it is probably better than all of these teams. It easily top 3.

It literally beat 2 of the rosters on this list. 09 UNC and 07 Florida.

Different year, different team.

Keep trying to convince yourself that but UNLV dogged duke in the FF, the next year those teams met, same roster except duke had a freshman (Grant Hill) and they won.

Eh, IDK about that. Memphis gave that game away by missing 4 straight free throws in the final 1:15 to even allow Kansas a shot to send it to OT. That was a magnificent choke job. They barely escaped Davidson in the EE too.

If I remember correctly, before that game they interviewed JC and Derick Rose, they were sitting on a couch, I think. They asked JC about their free throw numbers, and he said that he had never lost a game due to free throws. That's what I think I remember.

And had a future long time nba player coming off the bench (Speights)

Anyone know if Lee Humphry's record for NCAA tournament 3s was ever broken? Hard to find NCAA tournament records outside of single season ones. I'd imagine with the way the game has changed someone must have passed him.

Agree, that is always a stupid take.

also the next year Bobby Hurley didn't have liquid diarrhea running down his leg the entire game. You guys remember that? Guy had to run to the locker room every 10 minutes it seemed.

Also they won because John Calipari is a basketball terrorist and Memphis forgot how to shoot free throws. Doesn't take away the greatness of the team, but they got lucky.

Forgot how to shoot free throws? They shot 61% from the line that year. 329th in the nation. Can't forget what you don't know.

Memphis actually shot better than their average that night. The misses at the end were basically regression to the mean. It was a good strategy to start fouling with 2 min left. The only surprise was that Douglas Roberts missed a pair late, but he also made a pair just before that. Plus, Dozier (68% shooter) made a pair late, which kinda balances it out.

It's kind of amazing that Memphis ever had a 9 point lead. They shot 40% to KU's 53%. 63% at the line to 93%, 0 points off turnovers, and they were outrebounded 39-28.

Yes they do. They aren't giving up much in the paint and they can score from anywhere on the court.

That team was beatable so don't act like they never lost.

2005 and 2009 UNC teams would of got them
2012 UK would of got them
2024 UConn would of got them
2008 KU would of got them
2015 Duke would of got them, hell 2015 UK would of got them.

Horford and Noah are killing every one of those teams in the paint on both sides of the floor. Corey Brewer is the ultimate college wing and then Humphrey and Green are going to burn the nets. They also had 3 bigs coming off the bench that put in work. They seriously could have 3 peated if they would have came back for 1 more year.
