Or am I just fatigued by Louisville's sh!t performances across all sports and the endless scandals?

Happy 4th of July.

It's summer. No one cares about baseball until just before the playoffs. Football starts in about a month

I've definitely narrowed down my focus to college basketball/football. Didn't even keep up with the NFL like I normally do.

Definitely for me. Used to sit on the couch all weekend and watch every big CFB game and then 3 NFL games on Sunday. Barely watch any football outside of Michigan games now, and even those I have less interest in.

CBB I still enjoy and watch every Michigan game and most big matchups.

Good find. This article discussed something I forgot to mention in my OP:

"Some surveys show players’ embrace of social justice causes like Black lives matter hurt ratings this year"

I know I have political fatigue when it comes to activism in sports. The Cardinals football team was thrust into a bad spot with the Breonna Taylor case. All eyes were on Louisville, and UL athletes are the "big deal" here with no professional sports. Many felt like our football squad was too focused on their 10 point plan to fight racial injustice, and carrying BLM flags on the field. They apparently had no plan to stop opposing offenses, or to keep from turning the ball over 5 times a game. These kids looked distracted and unfocused all season.

The fans at the NFL season opener between Chiefs/Texans booed to moment of silence for racial justice. I highly doubt the fans are against justice for those who have been denied it. Like me, they're just sick of having politically correct woke culture shoved down their throats.

The Louisville basketball team released social justice videos, and held voter registration events. Then failed to make the NCAA tournament.

The UK basketball team decided to take a knee, which was ironically indicative of their on the court performance last year.

I don't regret sounding insensitive, I want sports to just be sports.

Yeah a lot of people turn to sports to get away from more serious shi!t going on...

The pandemic set back a lot of sports teams too not just UofL, just been a messed up couple years. Guys opting out, teams can't practice. Seasons start then stop. I forget, somebody had to forfeit an NCAA tourney game right? And NC St screwed in College World Series?

Now the transfer portal throws another curve into it for fans. I don't know who the hell is on the football team other than the short QB. I know they brought in Christian McCaffery's little bro and the dude transferred after a couple days. They seem over their heads in some games can't lie I don't know much about it.

The hoops program is gonna get lit on fire by the NCAA whenever they get around to doing it, so it's hard to get to into it right now for me. It's been a few bad years and they are gonna get a few more. May not turn the corner for awhile. Couldn't even make NCAAs with top transfer in weak yr for ACC.

I still get drunk, still watch games. Just lowered the bar for expectations.

yea the hoops team gettin lit on fire by the ncaa over adidas giving the kid money, which now, what 2 years later it would be totally legal. Craziness. Not even mentioning we fired everyone while sean miller and will wade continue to out recruit us. Or the 100s of other schools that were and have forever been doing the same thing that dont even catch a second look, like duke with zion when one of kansas’s violations was discussing paying zion. But the bottom line is theres nobody or nothing to hold the ncaa accountable so they can do whatever they want in regards to enforcing the rules and handing out punishments.

Now with the transfer rule its impossible for anyone to have any continuity. Its gonna be impossible for mid majors to build cinderella worthy teams bc their best players are gonna transfer up every single year.

Then throw in the NIL stuff too, and its just too much change at once for me. No offense to the fans of the schools that have had success with OaDs, but i like watching a freshman russ smith look like he doesnt even belong on our team, to working his ass off and leading us to a natty and winning kenpom poy. I dont like the fact ive never seen anyone in our back court this coming season play before, bc its two frosh and two transfers.

And i realize we have benefitted as much as anyone from grad transfers, but at least thats rewarding the kid for graduating, and the mid major gets them for at least 3 years. Now kids are gonna transfer if they think they are too good, bot good enough, or dont like the coach yelling at them or a teammate gettin more PT. Just further reinforces the F it ill just quit attitude of the younger generations, instead of damn i need to work harder and fix this, not just meh ill just go somewhere else.

mccaffery u mentioned was the perfect example, transferred in from nebraska, realizef he wasnt gonna win the starting job here, and teansferred to rice before ever even attending a class.

idk i feel like ima slowly shift more towards pro sports, im not from the city anyways so not like ima season ticket holder or big booster.

And i disagree about satt being in over his head simply bc of the amazing turnaround in year one. Last year was def a let down, but you nailed it, we beat ourselves with turnovers every single game. I thibk we had a bottom 20 turnover margin out of how many ever 100s of D1 teams there are.

Not saying Satterfield is over his head. I'm saying in some games the talent gap between who Louisville has, and who some opponents have is pretty wide. And I don't see that changing any time soon. I expect him to be gone as soon as he finds another job anyway, he was shopping last year but didn't hook up.

Given that, I ain't all that fired up about football. But I still watch it, have drinks, go to games when I can, etc. They did play ND tough last year. I dunno, I just don't know the condition of the program the defense seems pretty bad most years. They just seemed outmanned overall and it looks pretty obvious a couple games a year. I know nothing though, for real.

Yea good post, spot on actually.

Petrino neglected to recruit defense as well as he did offense to say the least. Look at his last season, that was the worst P5 defense ive ever seen.

I think satt can build a winning program here with a few more balanced classes of his own players. However, i fear you are right, and he will bolt if he had any type of success. Which every coach in my lifetime has done the same so not too surprising imo. But yea taking the SC interview is ok but the way he handled it was piss poor to say the least. And then dude leaving for georgia after 3-4 months on the job smdh.

And yea needless to say the last few years have rubbed off all the enjoyment of the teddy/strong years and the lamar years.

I will say it's crazy to see the UofL and IU football trajectories since they signed the series a few years back.

Didn't read that whole novel, but Sean Miller got fired in April.

If Teddy B ever wants to get into coaching I'd take him if he were interested and just roll with that, they need a legacy of some kind to stick...

Watched IU a few times last year, looked legit to me.... that O was moving it...
Wasnt aware we have a series, whens it start this year?

IU was def a suprise last year will be interesting if they can sustain it, i dont know much of anything about their roster tbh.

With transfers basically being free agents now and the NIL coming into play the shit show is just getting started.
Thats what im scared of my man. No offense to you or any fan of a team who uses lots of OaDs, but one of my fave parts of college ball is watching the players grow and develop over their careers. A kid like montrez ranked in the 70s, all he can do is dunk as a frosh, and by his junior year he cpuld make 3s(some), score on either block, vocal leader of the defense. Same for russ, hell i was hoping hed transfer after his frosh year. Never been more wrong.

i know ive said it but i will again bc im afraid its gonna become the norm everywhere, but i dont like that ive never seen a single player in our backcourt play basketball in a louisville uniform before. I cant remember it ever happening before, maybe 1 position but not 2, its crazy. And we have more continuity than others, its crazy. I would say i dont know how yall do it, but winning cures most anything.

I watch less college football now than I did 15 years ago because that sport is objectively worse.

But most other sports I would say I am increased in interest and excitement. College basketball is awesome, the NBA has as much talent and entertaining players as it ever has, the PGA Tour is compelling every single week, the NFL is always exciting and drama filled, and international soccer is great.

For the longest time, as long as I remember, I've watched all the playoffs (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL), always watched Sunday's Majors, and Tennis Finals. College football and basketball is my favorite though. Just as I watched main games in pros, I can watch basically any game in those two sports.

I've been this way my whole life but my older bro has a lot to do with it. As I wanted to watch Saturday cartoons, he'd nookie me and switch the channel to Walter Payton/Herschel Walker, Dorsett playing.

My individual fandom started in the late mid late 80'with sports cards.

So no @Sound.Slave ,Still as interested as ever.

Louisville City best sports team in Louisville OP. Sorry. It’s true.

Louisville should shoot for NBA and MLS at this point. Arena hemorrhaging money, UL football has regressed to 1985 and UL basketball on track to be surpassed by Bellarmine

Bellermine might have been better than 9-16 UK last year.

Granted yall look to be stacked this year, but before the season yall looked to be stacked last year as well. A few big blue faithful had yall penciled in the final four once you landed sarr.

This year yall have proven guys tho, not 5 star frosh who you never really know unless their the #1-2 guys depending on the year.

Might be true. More of a reason to double down on pro sports in Louisville,

Im not that big of a fan, but i dont live in the city. Wish US would adopt relegation like europe instead of expansion mls team in charlotte smdh.

100%. Think that’s becoming more realistic with MLS recently announcing they are pulling their development teams from USL Championship. That’s paving way for USL teams to be promoted into next tier with out complications from those teams. Most likely path is that MLS purchases USL outright at some point and follows NBA and ABA merger

We certainly have enjoyed UofLs struggles, but in all seriousness there is some truth to what OP has said. Maybe for me it's just basketball that I'm not as maniacally fanatic about. I consume as much baseball or more than I ever have...so that hasnt died for me.

Football....I'm as passionate as ever about the Cats but I do have some fatigue just because of the same old teams always winning. The playoff hopefully will help rectify that by at least creating some extra interest. NFL I don't know that I care anymore or less than I ever have. Follow my Bengals and then just watch the other games because I make money betting on them, gives me something to talk about at work.

I don't know. Does seem like some fatigue has set in for me ineverything other than baseball.

UK football fans should be excited as ever, this is the best shape ive seen your program in in my life as a sports fan (im 34). I waas sooooooooo wrong for laughing when yall gave porky pig an extension after a 2 win season. Never been morw wrong.

granted that woodson/johnson/burton team was nasty. Last uk football game i went to was the long td to johnson to beat us, back when teams didnt actually look forward to playing us. I cant remember if we had brohm or not. I about got jumped at an ihop at 3 in the morning jist for wearing a UL hat lol. Which granted i gotta smart ass mouth. It was pretty funny when it was all said and done.

totally agree about the same teams always at the top. Im afraid the NIL stuff is gonna do the same to basketball, but uk will def be one of the ones on top so i wouldnt fret it if i wore blue, plus yall have been used to learning a new team every year since cal got there. Im gonna miss the continuity and watchinf kids develop and shock you proving your opinion of them right or wrong.

plus if uk basketball is as good next year as they are on paper i bet alot of that excitedness comes back to you quick. Tough year in the world with covid, no tounrney, and racial innuendos everywhere u look, topped off with The riots and politics. Its been pretty depressing as a planet. Plus throw in UK was worse than maybe even some of Billy gs teams and i get it. I mailed it in the padgent interim year when i quickly realized we were getting outcowched moreso than outplayed smdh.
