How good would 07 Texas be in this era?

Hahaha. Man, you went full on homer, didn’t you. What part of Shaka’s resume the last 5-7 years would lead you to believe his system puts Texas in a much better place to win on a national level than Rick Barnes? Dude hasn’t made it past the 1st round of the NCAAT since 2013. He’s 31-41 in Big 12 play.

He has done all that with young guards in a guard oriented system.
Who knows what happens if Andrew Jones continued to play in 2017-2018.
Kerwin Roach never bought into the system and was suspended multiple times.

Dammit, just give him another 17 years!!

Might...
The one player that represents Shaka Smart on the court is the player that is in constant conflict with Shaka.
Luckily things went bad at Louisville and Courtney Ramey ended up in Austin.
But like I said Shaka Smart's success is tied to Ramey next year.

Ramey plays great Texas wins 25+ games.
Ramey and Smart continue to have conflict and he doesn't get better Smart will be looking for a job.

For a Sweet 16 appearance.
Tennessee should set the bar higher but I guess their football program at 5-7 has brought the fanbase to their knees.
Tennessee had it's best season ever (record wise). Barnes has dones wonders with a bunch of 2 stars. We couldn't be happier. How did you're upgrade do ya?

If you want to celebrate Sweet 16 appearances that is on you.
No one remembers Sweet 16 appearances

Nobody remembers bowls unless they are the play offs, but you seem to go on a lot over a meaningless bowl against UGA.

People remember the season in which they set a record for wins. Winning 31 games produces a more enjoyable fall and winter experience than winning 20 games. That’s not really up for debate.

Texas is a lot closer to making the Final 4 with Shaka Smart than they were with Rick Barnes.
Smart's style of basketball wins in tournaments.

Didn’t Rick Barnes make the Final Four at Texas?

Also, Shaka has been awful in the NCAAt outside of one fluke run. That’s just the facts. He’s 2-6 in the tourney that matters since 2012. 0-4 in his last 4 trips.

Tennessee won as many tourney games this year as Shaka has won since 2012.

Give Shaka a bunch of senior guards under his system...

Haha. So just wait every 4 years for him to have senior guards that can run the system exactly how he wants and maybe then he will get passed the second round? Is that all? That’s the great “system” that has Texas poised for the Final Four?

Dude, give it a rest. Shaka, like many coaches, can’t hack it at a power conference. Stop lying to yourself.

Need experience on the court.
Kerwin Roach wasn't the leader and did not want to play how Smart wanted.

Shaka Smart has one year remaining to prove his system works with who is counting on.
He is counting on Ramey and Coleman.

He has the leadership with Andrew Jones.
Jones should be fully ready to play 25-30 minutes a night by November.

He’s been at UT four years. What’s taking so long? He’s responsible for who he recruits and who he plays. If Roach didn’t want to listen, move on and replace him.

And what’s the excuse for his final 4-5 years at VCU? How come he couldn’t win in the NCAAT then?

His “system” lost effectiveness when the NCAA changed the foul rules.

Not in the tournament...
They still allow that style of play in the tournament.
Saw it with all four Elite 8 matchups.

Saw it tonight against Lipscomb.

His first Recruiting class was not great because of time. People told Smart that Jacob Young is a great guard. Young is a shooter who doesn't want to play defense.
The second one fell apart when Andrew Jones fell ill.

If Andrew Jones was on the court the last two years that Texas team might not have went into a tailspin after Michigan St and Texas Tech

Haven't played UVA but I only saw three opponents that deserve respect

Kansas State
Texas Tech
Michigan State

If Rick Barnes left your fan base hungry for more, y'all must be feeling emaciated with Shaka.

Texas is in the same spot with Smart as they were in with Barnes.

Shaka Smart is still learning on the job. Hard for players to develop under him quickly because he has a quick trigger.

Players who have played for both have said that Shaka is a much tougher coach.
He expects his players to give 100% on both ends of the court.

These are usually older players who buy into the system.
The system he has in place gives Texas a much better chance at winning on a larger level than Rick Barnes.

Next year is make or break for him.
3 upperclassmen guards and Courtney Ramey who is closer to a sophomore.

Even without Andrew Jones next year they will have Coleman, Ramey and Febres.
With Jones who was a 5 star recruit and who before his illness started to develop Texas might have the best back court in the country next year.

The two teams that forced Texas to struggle...
Michigan State and Texas Tech could be games Texas wins next year.

Those two teams who are Final 4 teams are the reason Texas was 16-16 and not 26-6.

Texas is either going to be a Top 10-15 team next year or Shaka will be fired.

Thinking because of the backcourt Texas will be at least a Top 15 team in 2019-2020.
Maybe the best team in the Big 12.

Congrats to your Horns, bud. Good win tonight.

Is Jones going to be playing in 19-20? That kid is special. Been Unlucky.

He’s been the difference for Texas the last two seasons. He plays = second round or sweet 16 team.

From what I have heard he will be ready to play.
Could have played this year but wasn't ready to play more than 5-10 minutes a night.
Didn't want to waste a year of eligibility

A lot of people probably slammed the decision, but I think Shaka deserves to see our one more season with a healthy young. The problem is he loses one of the best ive seen at Texas in the Big 12 in Roach, and a lottery pick in Hayes.

Jericho Sims is still a good rim protector and Febres, Mitrou, Coleman, etc make up a great backcourt. Liddell looks like a player. Just sucks this years Texas team didn’t get a healthy Young especially for league play. And then last year with Bamba

Kai Jones is said to be another Jaxson Hayes type player but with a better understanding of the game. He has already signed.
Heard Sims might transfer.
Hope not.

Your 7 footer u have coming in looks good too.

U guys always get these bigs we desperately need. I remember Myles Turner how bad we wanted him.

Baker isn't as athletic
I don't know if he can run the floor yet.
He is a great passer from the 5 and can shoot
Both him and Jones can shoot.

They always have recruited the position well.
Pretty much have had a NBA level big the last ten years
Smart's staff have proved to be good when they have the time to find the players.
They really wanted Culver but he wanted to stay in Lubbock.

Hamm is one that I think can eventually play at a high level.
Great energy, rebounder and jumper.
Just doesn't have much of an Offensive game except pick and Rolls around the basket.
