Here is where we are at. Court testimony from the involved party categorically says Self knew nothing under oath. Parties convicted of defrauding ks in court. Parties agree to pay damages from their actions to ks and admit guilt.
Selfs own words:
“I’m not running from this,” Self said. “I’ve been beat up by some people just saying some things that are not accurate, putting their spin on facts. I’m not talking to anybody about a job.
Anyjob. And my motivation is only at Kansas. And certainly, like I’ve said before, I will not run from this at all.”
Self is also sticking by his coaching staff. Kurtis Townsend was caught on a wiretap having a conversation with Adidas consultant Merl Code in September 2017, which Code’s attorney Mark Malone read in court. In the call, Code allegedly told Townsend that someone, presumably a family member of eventual Duke signee Zion Williamson, is asking for a job, cash and housing for the family. Townsend allegedly told Code that “we’re going to have to figure out a way because if that’s what it takes to get him here for 10 months, we’re going to have to do it some way.”
No one knows how the NCAA will interpret that message, but Self has stood firm in his loyalty to his staff. Townsend did not miss any time this season, and Self does not appear to be considering any staff changes.
“I think we’ll stay intact in terms as far as how everything looks at the moment,” he said.
