Remember the mid 80's Columbia House cassette club? Central Kentucky didn't sell Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Testament.

I hate the whole grunge genre name/concept in general. It was something record labels and MTV used to label it. It was all very different. You have people that called the Melvins the godfathers of grunge. They weren't grunge at all. AIC/Soundgarden were very metal influenced if you have listened to any of their stuff prior to getting famous on a big record label. It was more alternative metal but if people are gonna consider Led Zeppelin metal..... Old school Soundgarden and AIC was more metal than any of that.
If you did a vote of metal heads I am sure Maiden would most likely win.
Richmond , Va has had some strong metal/hardcore bands come out of that town over the years. Gwar , Lamb of God , Alabama Thunderpussy , Municipal Waste , Cannabis Corpse. It's a really underrated culture in River City.
Criminally underrated band in the southern rock/southern metal sound. Always felt that they wasted their best years on Man's Ruin record label which hurt them from a notoriety stand point. Those guys came around right when I was getting into HS and thru my mid 20's before they broke up in 2008. They had more of a Lynyrd Skynyrd vibe to them compared to a band like Down. Their cover of "All I can do is write about it" is awesome. Was suppose to be on a Skynyrd tribute album that never manifested. Was only released on the re release of Constellation. It has been said that rock didn't really exist before the formation of Alabama Thunderpussy.
Hallowed grounds indeed there in River City.

That is not metal. Sounds more like pussy. Lita Ford is more metal than that song.Criminally underrated band in the southern rock/southern metal sound. It's a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover. They wrote this one for dummies that don't know what Metal is.That is not metal. Sounds more like pussy. Lita Ford is more metal than that song.

Listen to something like Black Sabbath's Changes from 72' , metal comes in many different forms even with piano pieces.
Yes Anthrax is metal and they are doing a metal version of a hip hop song. Is Aerosmith not a rock band because they did a Run DMC cover? Metal scene people get too butthurt over what's supposed metal and what's not. Because everybody doesn't sound like Maiden or Testament. Especially when it comes to Nu Metal (Which I mostly hate) or some prog metal bands.
I don't even know Nu Metal or Prog. I guess at 42 i'm old.Yes Anthrax is metal and they are doing a metal version of a hip hop song. Is Aerosmith not a rock band because they did a Run DMC cover? Hey what's this pussy doing singing on a piano?Speaking of which. White/Rob Zombie, and Black Label Society.
I think you misunderstood my post. I sense some defensiveness.Hey what's this pussy doing singing on a piano?
Zombie started out as noise rock band before becoming what you heard on La Sexorcisto or Astro Creep 2000. Though pretty much everything after White Zombie has been trash.
Nu Metal is what folks also call rap metal. Progressive or Prog metal are bands like Mastodon , King Crimson , Queensryche , Opeth , Between the Buried and Me. Stuff like that.I don't even know Nu Metal or Prog. I guess at 42 i'm old.
No lots of smart ass sarcasm. Some of the greatest metal/rock songs ever written are piano driven songs. I was more of playing down your stereotype.I think you misunderstood my post. I sense some defensiveness.
Never made a stereotype. Opposite actually. Not all songs from metal bands are metal songs. No lots a smart ass sarcasm. Some of the greatest metal/rock songs ever written are piano driven songs. I was more of playing down your stereotype.
I guess it depends. Not metal , but a band like Ween has done everything from folk , to psychedelic , to country. Variation by bands is a good thing. I mean listen to Sabbath's last album Never Say Die. It's all over the place with songs like Air Dance and Johnny Blade.Never made a stereotype. Opposite actually. Not all songs from metal bands are metal songs.
Manson , don't get me started on that guy.Don't get me wrong, I like when bands mix it up and do some other stuff. Unless it's Manson sounding like a poor man's NiN.
I do like some bands that fall in that range. SOTD, Deftones, Korn. I guess I'm more stuck with the 70's,80's,90's metal bands compared to the 00's-10'sNu Metal is what folks also call rap metal. Progressive or Prog metal are bands like Mastodon , King Crimson , Queensryche , Opeth , Between the Buried and Me. Stuff like that.
You gravitate to what you grew up with for sure. Though as I get older I listen to less newer metal and more listen to older stuff that went under the radar. What would you consider Pentagram?I do like some bands that fall in that range. SOTD, Deftones, Korn. I guess I'm more stuck with the 70's,80's,90's metal bands compared to the 00's-10's

I ❤️Thunder Kiss 65 and Black Sunshine. ( with Iggy Pop doing the voiceover).Hey what's this pussy doing singing on a piano?

Love Iggy and The Stooges too. What makes metal great is all the different types of music that have been incorporated into it. For example a band like Rammstein working things like DJ style synthesizers into the music but it's still metal. It's evolution is what's going to keep it viable. If everybody just tries to emulate Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden every time it will get boring.I ❤️Thunder Kiss 65 and Black Sunshine. ( with Iggy Pop doing the voiceover).
I’m with you...love what is labeled Industrial - NIN, Ministery, Rammstein. Love Grunge - AIC, Stone Garden. Love old Heavy, new Heavy and on and on. I don’t know about the labels- I do know Heavy when I hear it. Pretty broad spectrum. I love these threads because I get to check out some stuff I’ve never heard and reminded of stuff I love- Iggy included.Love Iggy and The Stooges too. It's why I am not big into Greta Van Fleet though everyone else is. Not that the kids don't have serious ability. Because it's really hard to imitate Led Zeppelin that accurately. But they eventually are gonna have to branch out and evolve or they will eventually just become stale.
Don't listen to the newest Ministry album that came out a few months ago. Biggest piece of crap I have ever heard. Haven't heard a single person on planet earth say it's anything more than sh!t.I’m with you...love what is labeled Industrial - NIN, Ministery, Rammstein. Love Grunge - AIC, Stone Garden. Where you been Clive?
Would you consider this metal?
Not all songs from metal bands are metal. ie Zakk Wylde's In this River.
Yea southern rock album but was probably the best thing the guy has ever done. It's a solid album all the way thru , I prefer that to his BLS work.I used to listen to one of Zakk Wylde's albums a lot. Pride and Glory I think it was called. It wasn't extremely heavy though.
Pride and Glory and Book of Shadows 1+2 have some really great songs.Yea southern rock album but was probably the best thing the guy has ever done. It's a solid album all the way thru , I prefer that to his BLS work.
