Them returning six of their top seven scorers next year could be a huge factor in him staying.

Unless Al takes his extra year. But my answer is he’ll be back. ADs lost so much money this year.
TOS has reported that it’s 50/50 with Brunk depending on his back, and only like a 5% chance Durham comes back. The AD will lose more money if they bring Archie back.

They won’t do it, but they could easily start a fundraising drive and get $10+ million in a day if they wanted to. Not that they would end up paying Archie his entire buyout should they let him go.

As the world turns. I think key in it all is there’s basically no recruiting class lined up. I have no premium anything so haven’t seen a thing behind paywalls

Basically the Peegs guys have gone from 5th year guaranteed, to things could get interesting after the season of IU doesn’t make the tournament, to now speculating on realistic and non realistic hires.

In an interview this week, Dolson said his biggest concern was apathy setting in for the fanbase. I think he understands another year would have that come to fruition.

It is time to accept Indiana is no longer a blue blood. With teams like Duke and Kentucky you are genuinely surprised they won't make the tournament and are so bad this year. With indiana, it is total meh.

They’re a blue blood just a terrible basketball program.

Who is out there for IU to consider?
Pete Thamel mentioned names like Chris Beard, Scott Drew, John Beilein, Bobby Hurley or Mick Cronin.

I think Beard might take Smart's job within the next year or two, otherwise I think he stays where he is.
Beilein is pushing 70. How much longer would he even coach?
Drew, Hurley, and Cronin are lateral moves, at best.

He is an arrogant prick. Would fit in great at Indiana and so would his career 63% winning percentage. 😬
I think that he would want the job. Supposedly he had interest in the Illinois job when we hired Underwood. If he was interested in Illinois, safe to say he would be interested in the Indiana job.

Of course there could be nothing to the rumor of his interest in Illinois which would make my point moot.

Oh I think he would for sure want it, especially since he has already spent a lot of time there at Butler and Valpo.

Don't let that winning percentage fool you. The job he has done at Baylor is one of the most under appreciated jobs in sports. Look, it was bad enough Baylor wasn't any good to begin with....Then you add the Bliss/murder fiasco, and I mean, for Drew to have that program where it is , is amazing.

Not saying he's great, etc, etc....Or even the guy for Indiana. But, I mean dude can coach. And deserves a lot more credit for what he has done at baylor than he gets. Or will probably ever get.

NC, my guy is telling me there is smoke....Big smoke.

With the NCAA allowing an extra year, and transfers being immediately available, its(recruiting) not that big of an issue THIS year. But overall, it is alarming. Duncomb will be a very nice piece. He's solid. CJ Gunn is a very good get, as well.

Durham has his own clothing line. I'd say he will either get that going, or try to play overseas. I doubt he returns.

Here's what I would do....

1 and 2: Call Stevens/Donovan. Offer them cray cash. Odds are they say no....But you have to reach out.

Now, move on to the realistic dudes. I start with, and hopefully end with this dude:

Bruce fukin Pearl....Personally, I think Pearl would take the job. If not..You look at Beard(Knight guy), and Drew. Possibly Belien.

But I think Pearl would take the IU job.

Also of note: Matta has been mentioned of late.

If you guys hire Pearl, our rivalry will be rekindled. It’s really lost some sizzle since Knight/Henson.

Well it's about time. He's only been there almost 20 years.

Do you realize what he inherited? Do you know how bad that program was BEFORE the scandal? His first 5 seasons he was completely handcuffed....Sanctions, murder case hanging over the program...He couldn't get a homeless person to come there....

Like I said---I don't know if I'd call him "great". But very good for sure. Had he went to a blue blood, dude would have a title....maybe two. Shit might have gotten one last year...May get one this year.

He can coach.

I always wondered about Matta. They play it off like he left OSU because of health issues but I think there was more to it. He has been out of the game for 4 years now but he's still young by coaching standards.

I couldn't see IU entertaining a Pearl hire, especially with his shady past (and present) considering how IU got burned with Sampson.

Even if we dismiss his first 10 years there he has still lost 12 games or more 5 of the past 8 seasons and that includes this season and last, which have by far been his best.

IU is a sleeping giant, and God help us if they find the right coach. UK and IU could be, must see attraction once again.

Both programs can feed off each other. They are very unique

Yeah the whole Matta thing just had some weirdness to it....

You are probably right about Pearl. BUT---I mean his past isn't that bad. MOF, its kind of comical to an extent...He lied about a BBQ at Tenn...I mean not good, of course. But not UL level type of shit, either..Then at UW-Milwaukee, he invited a recruit to his daughters graduation party...

And, well, that's it.

True....But this Baylor. They were gawd awful before he got there...before the sanctions. I believe they had only been ranked like 5 times in their history before he arrived. Again, not sayng he's a world beater...But I'd like to see the dude at a blue blood.

I would not be upset at all if IU hired him. He has lots of ties to the state. His dad is a HS coaching legend here. His name is well know in the northern part of the state, where IU has struggled with recruiting. I think Drew could do a very good job at IU.

IU has every luxury at their hands----Fans, traditions, facilities, recruiting grounds, money, etc, etc...Its just been one ****ed up hire after another. Sampson coaching wise was a fukin home run hire. Dude just couldn't stay clean. Sucks. Because IMO, Sampson is the example of what a very good coach could do at Indiana. He was 43-15 in his time here. IU was 22-3, or something like that when he was fired--or resigned. Ranked #4, I believe. But there were more issues than just the NCAA. IU basically imploded their own program to save face...Sampson done wrong---yes. But IU railroaded his ass. And IMO, that has not sat well with other coaches, and to me could play, or has played a rle, in IU's inability to attract top names...

And the Deon Thomas blackmail ordeal. Regarding the BBQ, Pearl knew it was wrong and asked the parents not to say anything about it. Then he doubled down on his lies to the NCAA when they showed him photo evidence. These are just things we know about. He's a shady ass dude, plain and simple.

So you are admitting what I said a few months ago when I heard about rumors about Sampson and IU....

You accused me of playing the race card because I said also heard some shit about Mike Davis as well.

But at least you are acknowledging the fact that IU did Sampson dirty.

Regarding other coaches not taking the Job because of that. It isn't because of Sampson.
Bruce Weber and Illinois ran him through the mud.

IU lacks job security. Maybe even more than UCLA
