Calipari Blows G.O.A.T.s

The level of talent at UK has changed, but even with stacked rosters, Cal always managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. He was never a good game coach, he was just able to out athlete everyone.

Right about the 15/16 season, the college game changed. The teams that are winning now, are older, usually built with seasoned 3 and 4 star kids and have structured offenses that use the 3 point shot, PnR's, back cuts and high screens to score easier. Offense wins titles now, not defense, but Cal hasn't figured that out yet. He's still trying to force feed the post, which is a guy that is typically triple teamed, while everyone else stands and watches.

Once Cal tricked our AD into giving him a huge lifetime deal with a crazy buyout option, Cal got lazy. He stopped recruiting and coaching with passion. But in reality, he was never that great at recruiting. His assistants carried the recruiting water. When Antigua left, recruiting took a nosedive, now that Antigua is back, we are killing it, but Cal gets all the credit.

Unless Cal gets another stacked team with a generational player (AD/Mello/Zion), he will never win another title, he's just not good enough.

I liked the guy, no doubt, he said and did all the right things his first few years, but he's turned into a huge narcissistic ass that thinks he's above everyone. The UK job is a 10 year job and Cal is way past his expiration date.

He’s always been a narcissistic ass. It just comes out more often when he’s faced with adversity and criticism.

We’ve never been a juggernaut under Cal on the offensive end, sans a couple of teams.

Exactly. Calipari has always done a solid job on the defensive end (of course it helps to have elite athletes with size), but his teams have always left something to be desired on the offensive end. With exception of a few that were too skilled to fail.

But yeah, he's not evolving well either.

He's also never really been known for strategy or adjustments.

"Since Kentucky’s title only one national-championship team — 2013 Louisville — has shot worse than 36 percent from the arc. In that same span, Kentucky has shot better than 36 percent just twice, this year and in 2016. “Their offense is archaic,’’ says one coach. “It’s gotta be the same s— he was running with the New Jersey Nets.” Predictable is how another coach describes it, so much so that his team spent little time worrying about sets and simply concentrated on player tendencies. “Yeah, he’s been running the same stuff for years,’’ adds another. “When you have stud players, though, it works. When you’re running floppy action for Tyler Herro, that’s a bucket. It’s a little different if it’s not him.’’

I've watched about 10 minutes of Missouri-Kentucky, and I see one team running a modern offense and one team running whatever the hell it is Kentucky is doing.

John Calipari enjoyed this incredible run where he never entered a game without at least one of the five or six best players in the country. John Wall, AD, JRandle, Towns, D Fox. But that's not the change now. It's that those guys always had a bunch of top-30 players around them.

People are just now verbalizing what many have thought for years. The game has changed and Calipari has not. At this point there's no reason to believe he will.

If he does just hope it's after Tuesday lol. !

Now having Tyler Ulis on the bench is certainly going help out our guard play. For those that may not know, Tyler enrolled at UK for classes and is a student assistant. Tyler had head on collision and is rehabbing from the injuries. Tyler will do a great job and is a tremendous asset. But also hoping he makes a full recovery and can resume in the NBA.
