??? Really? Did the voters not watch any of the tournament? Loyola of Chicago coach sounds like a better choice .
One game shouldn't taint a historic run in the ACC & the regular season. What Bennett did this year in the ACC was unprecedented.??? Really? Did the voters not watch any of the tournament? Loyola of Chicago coach sounds like a better choice .

Nothing against his run, but it did hit a wall. Better choices. One game shouldn't taint a historic run in the ACC & the regular season. What Bennett did this year in the ACC was unprecedented.
When it’s the biggest choke job in NCAA tournament history it at the very least deserves some consideration. We aren’t talking about Virginia losing a March madness classic to a deep-run Cinderella team. We are talking about Virginia getting blasted by 20 points to a 16 seed.
#easypathOr Beilein. This has been Beilein’s best coaching season at Michigan. Took a team outside of most preseason top 25s to a 32 win season, big ten tournament title, and final 4.
I get it. And Beilein has been getting some love from some other outlets and I'd have no problem if they chose him over Bennett. But the way they ran through the ACC this was impressive. Hard to ignore. The loss to a 16 is bad. Really bad. But the regular season success coupled with the clean sweep in the ACC tournament trumps that IMO. I really like Beilein though. When it’s the biggest choke job in NCAA tournament history it at the very least deserves some consideration. He achieved the LEAST.COY is all about who overachieves the most.
Bennett losing in the first round to a 16-seed is considered overachieving for him.
He achieved the LEAST.
Damn, he was the first 1 seed to lose to a 16. SHIT!
Okay. So they were overrated. So what? That happens all the time because they won the ACC. The most over-rated conference. Are you serious? I wasn't aware of that fact.
The point is that there's no way we should have been a 1-seed this year. We overachieved by a large margin. And there's literally no way we would have been a 1-seed without Hunter. It doesn't excuse the loss. The loss is an atrocity and will be forever linked to Bennett and UVA. But COY shouldn't be stripped away from Bennett because of one horrific game either.

Wow. Not only were they a 1 seed they were the friggin' number one 1 seed.
You can't get by the fact that his overrated team, who won the ACC regular and tourney championship, was the first 1 to lose to a 16.
Hell every ACC guy on this board was justifying Virginia being a 1 seed.
Sorry.
Bennett is a choke artist and utter joke nowadays but, this award was voted before the tournament started. With this in mind, there’s no way he wouldn’t have won it given the regular season success. Just like Dirk Nowitzki won MVP despite getting upset by 8th seeded Golden State in 2007. It’s meant for regular season.
Go ahead and love it. You coach is the first 1 seed to lose to a 16.Damn, Bennett has you boys triggered as ****. Love it.

Normally, I'm the first one to pull the "coaching ability shouldn't be judged by tourney flameouts" card, but making history by getting rolled by a 16 has to subtract some points.
It did. That's why it wasn't unanimous.
Guys, this is correct. The voting was done before the tournament had started. Which I'm sure is done to keep it from being a "who had the best NCAA tournament story" award. The first round hadn't happened yet when they voted.

Sry If I’m biased but Tennessee went from being picked 13th in the SEC to finishing 13th in the nation
Yet we just gave it to a coach that lost to a 16 for the first time everAnd couldn’t make the sweet 16
Awful lot of dumb itt
What's dumb is trying to justify a OaD tourney as a measuring stick for an entire season. That's stupid given how much weight is put on the tournament.
Namely the idiot who keeps pimping Loyola even though the ink was already dry.

Does anyone really believe
Villanova
Kansas
Michigan
and Loyola
were the four best teams in cbb this season?
The NCAA doesn't include tourney performance in determining it's "best".
LoL to the fans who do.
It's the method NCAA basketball uses to crown it's national champion and thus should carry some weight.
Well it doesn't to the NCAA voters..
That should tell you something.
The tourney carries weight, fans make sure of it.
But, in determining who's "best" only mental midgets believe that ish.
In determining who the best team is? I agree.
But when most coaches have making the final / winning a national championship / etc. in their goals, I think reaching those goals should be considered when talking about who had the best coaching season.

I don't disagree with that. But I also don't think a poor NCAA tournament should discredit a historic coaching season either. UVA was actually historically good and bad this year. UVA became the first team to win 17 games in the ACC and the first team to go 9-0 on the road in the ACC. UVA won the ACC by 4 full games. UVA went from unranked in the preseason to #1 in the nation. UVA won both the ACC regular season and conference tournament. But UVA also became the first 1-seed to lose to a 16-seed and by 20 points.
I would have been fine if another coach won the award and I am pretty damn certain Bennett doesn't give a shit about the award. I just think it's ridiculous to discredit him winning the award based on one game, considering he had so many other historically good accomplishments.
