Basketball shows

Lebron should say anything he wants, but Kanye should shut up and make music. Am I doing it right? SmokinSmile

I'd like to watch them. Not sure If I will get a chance to anytime soon though.

I think it's great people use their popularity to help solve problems. Only thing that was borderline for me this year was Taylor Swift. Just straight up telling people to vote for this person, and not that person. Obviously she CAN do that. IDK why. It just rubbed me the wrong way. Like what If celebrities/athletes turn into paid spokesman kind of deal. Just rambling and bored. Sorry. Sick

T, do you watch ESPN or listen to sports talk radio or anything? I haven’t watched anything but Duke stuff (and a few 30 in 30s) in ages. Do you follow athletes on social media?
I still tune in to espn for games, but never watch the talk shows or anything....mainly b/c of lack of time and family priorities. I use it for any big game b/c I do follow duke, uk, unc, big 12 teams. Mainly b/c those teams are in the top ten and league foes. I watch the occasional thirty for thirty---usually long after it debuts. I don't follow any athletes on social media. I don't have twitter. I have always had favorite players I followed--bo jackson was one---read his books, watched his special. But if you know too much about most athletes, you'll find out they have a ton of skeletons and in general...arent really great role models. I think you can admire and copy their work ethic, but should probably look to the real life difference makers like a grandfather, a dad, or a best friend to use as a role model.

Also, here is Jordans response to being asked about calling himself the GOAT...

Jordan: "I don't want it in a sense because I think it disrespects Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West – you know all the guys that prior to me I never had a chance to play against. What everybody is saying I am, I never had the chance to compete against other legends that was prior to me. When I hear it, I cringe a little bit because it's a little bit embarrassing because no one knows. I never had the chance to, once again, to play against those guys. I would love to have played against them but I never did. And for you to say that I'm better than him...I mean it's your opinion; it's their opinion. I accept that as their opinion. If you ask me, I would never say that I am the greatest player. That's because I never played against all the people that represented the league prior to Michael Jordan."

Okay, so I’ve started watching Basketball: A Love Story. Figured I’d maintain updates as I do, for folks who might be interested!

Watched four bits. Each was between six and ten minutes.

1) Love of the Game: An intro to the series, sort of... an interwoven set of quick clips from a million players about things that all basketball players share... the love of the game, the driveway fantasies, the first time you played, playing with rolled up socks... a really lovely little intro that established that shared love across all generations and styles and types of players. REALLY stunning, the people they got.

2) The teachers: Sort of like the one before, a bunch of clips about the role of the coach in a players life... both in terms of basketball, but also in terms of life. But then leads into when the relationship goes bad...

3) The choke: the Sprewell/PJ story, and about the impact it had and how it was seen by so many to be a violation of the “rules” of the game.

4) Origins: A great bit, more traditional in the telling/directing/editing (partially because there isn’t anyone from the old days TO interview!) about Naismith and the start of basketball, and how it spread to places like Boston and New York but also to places like Indiana and Kansas. UK folks would enjoy that Rupp gets a section in the segment (and actually has an entire segment dedicated to him later.)

So, pretty enjoyable so far. Looking ahead, there seem to be some really fascinating episodes coming up! I’ll post more as I watch. Next couple are about a scandal when basketball first became “big”, one about signature moves, and one entitled “The Spring of ‘57”.

Finished watching the 2nd season if Making a Murderer last night. Still not convinced he is guilty.

We just finished Bird Box earlier tonight. Interesting. A few plot holes. But I guess it was enough to be interesting. Love me some Sandra Bullock anyways.

New Jurassic World was corny. And The Mule was good, but could have been better.

Uhmmm... I wasn’t intending this to replace the general tv thread? Thought because it was basketball related...?:)

Do you guys have TVs in your bedroom? I don’t but I want one. The lady says no. She seems pretty set on that. But I still want one in there though. For those that do how often do you have it on?

Sorry to hijack, @TheDude1

Is your setup still temporary while doing house repairs?
Yeah. We have a nice little camper trailer that we are staying in. Would actually be pretty sweet if it were for recreational purposes. We do have a functioning toilet and shower inside the house though. So that is a big difference.

But we do keep a tv in our bedroom. Stays on all night.

Definitely not. I’m a crappy sleeper, and frankly all that flickering blue light and noise... I think that you need to give your brain and body a good, natural rest, you know?

And no prob. Ill just update periodically as I watch... maybe something will sound interesting to someone? They literally stream each segment individually on ESPN, but they ARE loosely linked.

Got a 75 in in the room. Literally watch it every night before bed to avoid reading lol.

We have one but it's never on at night when we're sleeping.

Christ. We have a 40" in the bedroom that we got for $178 a few years ago on black friday. We thought that was way too big for the bedroom.
we have a 42 plasma in the bedroom and 32s in our bathrooms and kitchen. it all started in the living room and as tv tech advanced and we bought new equipment for our living room and the rest just got trickled down into different rooms.

Bathrooms? Shit, or get off the pot.
my mother in law is a teacher and we got 4 labtops for 40 bucks from her school when they upgraded computers. They're what's running the tv's in the bathrooms/kitchn.

In my bathroom I have a monitor mounted on the wall with the labtop on a rack in front of the toilet. So when I'm watching a game and need to use the toilet, I just stream it to whatever labtop.
my wife thought it would be over the top if I put one infront of the toilet and one behind, so no matter my business, i have it covered.

What’s the Sprewell story? I just met him a few weekends ago when he was out at a Milwaukee bar. Dude has really fallen off.

Okay, watched two more segments.

5) Scandal: About the basketball scandals of the 50s, particularly in what was then the basketball center of the world, NYC. Earliest organized teams were barnstorming teams that were practicing in the Catskills in the summer at resorts as entertainment. Here the mob got their hands in them, and point shaving scandals rocked basketball. Garden was forbidden to host college games, and New York ceased to be the center of the basketball universe. Pro basketball also seemed on the way out. But then Bob Cousy and George Mikan basically introduced the concept of the “star player” and the league began to grow.

6) Signature Moves: The Feel: A close look at several fundamental aspects of the athetletic side of basketball, and people who exemplified the “art” in them. Diana Taurasi and shooting, Chris Paul and defense, Wes Unseld and the outlet pass, Iverson and the crossover... really drawing the comparison between basketball and almost dance.

SOOOO many familiar faces. UK folks, Joe B Hall is in it a ton!:)

55 in my bedroom. 32s in the rest of the bedrooms. 82 in the living room. 65s outside.

I agree with watching it every single night to fall asleep. I just have a timer that shuts it off.

Basketball a Love story is fantastic from start to finish. In the entire 20 hour run there might be 1-2 segments that aren't interesting.
