Yankees, GITT and verify this for me.

Never heard that term in my life. Recessed lighting is recessed lighting up here. Some people call them can lights.

I don't think I've ever used the term recess lighting and a high-hat is a percussion instrument.

I googled recess lighting. I'd call those "overhead lights"

My brother stopped by with his coworker who talks kind of like Joe Pesci and he was talking about adding "high hats" in his kitchen. It took about 5 minutes to finally figure out what he was talking about. He swore to me that that is what they call them. Glad to hear it's not the norm.

I don’t understand what people from NY are saying either

Between this board and tMB you are the only one who has verified that they are really called that. Crazy.

That’s pretty crazy… It’s not as common as recessed lighting, but a lotta contractors use that term. I never knew it was a regional thing.

I thought so, but apparently not!
Not common among people who spend time in a message board dedicated to CBB? We are a strange lot. TBH probably not a common term unless you install lights for a living.
