Would Dabo leave Clemson for Alabama?

    Sure sounds like it.

"Who knows what's going to happen down the road? I have no idea," Swinney said. "I just try to be great where my feet are. That's my focus every day. Who knows? They may do away with college football in three years. There may be no college football. They may want to professionalize college athletics. Well, then, maybe I'll go to the pros. If I'm going to coach pro football, I might as well do that. I may get a terrible president or a terrible AD one day. I don't know. I have no idea what's down the road. But I know what we have at Clemson is special, and I wanted to make a commitment to the university. That's what the message of the contract was."

This sure doesn't sound like a coach who is all in for Clemson.
    Sounds like a politician..redirect.

Nobody is ever "all in" for whoever they work for that's true for everybody who works in this country in and out of sports.

He sounds like somebody who is keeping it real instead of giving you the company line.

He said this week that, "I've been at Clrmson for 17 years and 10 years as head coach, I was at Bama for 11."

Honestly as a Bama fan, I wonder. Who would want to deal with Bama’s fanbase? That is the toughest part of the Alabama job. Some of Bama’s fans are insufferable assholes. Not me! I am sweet as,,,,,,,,

Oh how times have changed 5 years ago Dabo was a clown and laughed at.
Now they all want what little ole Clemson has.
CDS is not going anywhere, he most likely will die in Pickens Co. Why would he leave ? In about 20 years he will be considered one the top 5 coaches of all time , at little ole Clemson.

Actually, I think his commentary cleared the air.

As long as he has a fully-supportive university President and AD he has no reason to leave.

But should he find himself saddled with an administration that doesn't grant him full automony, it's clear that, at that point, he's out the door.

    And I wouldn't blame him.

That’s as good an interpretation as any, and one I find very defensible. “Treat me right and I’ll stay, screw me over and I’m gone”, which is effectively the position of every employee everywhere

As a Bama fan, I would have to say he would be an idiot to leave Clemson. He could go down, if he isn’t already, the greatest coach in Clemson history. If he goes to Bama, he has to follow two coaches who are in the discussion as best of all time. Stay put

Not necessarily - and that what's leaving the door open.

At that level, it's very easy to get caught up in - and fall victim to - an administration's political agenda.

Agreed on all points, but consider our in-conference rivals UNC.

A traditional powerhouse in CBB, reduced to "also-rans" by an administration that wants to focus on academia.

    Unfortunately, it happens.

He'd be in Alabama within 48 hours of Nick retiring, if offered the job.

Would be interesting to see what Dabby could do with an NFL team.

It is why we wandered for 30 plus years. Had Presidents and a BOT who saw athletics as an enemy of academics. Too stupid to see how complimentary they are. And their little egos couldn't stand that Danny was loved more than any of their pointed headed asses ever would be. (F&$@ you Max Lennon and Bill Amick)

We were spending less on athletics at one point than everyone in conference except Wake Forest. Wake Forest. Our other sports are still recovering from their mess.

Our current President, Clemmons, is all in supporting sports, as is the BOT thanks to David Wilkins. And thanks to the deaths of the BOT members who sabotaged us for decades.

Having everyone on the same page is rarer than most think. Few schools have it. Should it ever change, Dabo would reassess and likely be gone. But as long as he has the support, the longer he stays, the less likely he is to ever leave. I think he is already at the point of retiring at Clemson given the status quo.

Dabo doesn't have to dream about being successful in the $EC. Check his record against $EC competition since being Head Coach at Clemson.

Lol, no one in their right mind would turn down the RTR job. Especially a former player, alumnus, and Alabammy native.

Don't delude yourself, Tater. He's going as soon as it opens, if they offer him.

Dabo is smart enough to know that you don't follow the legend. Now maybe after bama runs off whoever follows saban, possibly, but still doubtful.

The only way he leaves is either the administration falls apart around him ( like he said ) or he gets fat lazy syndrome - just gets where he doesn’t care as much = drop in production

Also he is about to get a whole other problem that Saban has been dealing w forever w assistant coaches leaving for bigger positions etc. Venables hasn’t left yet because his son is at Clemson. When he graduates the double tripling his salary will be much harder to turn down.

Few places will triple his current salary for a first time head coach. He's in no hurry.

More likely Tony Elliot or Jeff Scott leave first. But again, they are Clemson grads, so they will be very picky about where to jump.

And Dabo makes the work environment as appealing as possible. Saban isn't exactly known for being as relaxed an atmosphere. So there is some difference there.

But not gonna worry. Dabo has shown a good eye for hiring and Clemson is now a destination spot for assistants.

Just gonna kick back and enjoy the ride.
