And win a baseball title?
Don't feel too bad. My Cowboys are making their 20th CWS appearance, with 9 previous title game appearances and only have one title to show for it.
It seems to almost be an impossible task to move from bridesmaid to bride.
Better add FSU to UF. Heck Miami is similar to OK State too.
You are right about FSU. Doesn't Miami have like 5-6 titles though?
Actually I think they have 4 which hurts my case, but the last was 2001 I believe. The others are 1999 and 2 in the early to mid 80's I believe. Only 2 in my lifetime.
That is correct they only have 4. I'm thinking of LSU.
We are in the same boat with UF but with a better history. It will disgust me if they get one before we do. 11 deserves a title more than anyone and this might be his last best chance to get it.
I really hope we don't end up in Gainesville for a SR yet again.
I put UF, FSU, & Clem up there as the teams that have had the most success in college baseball but don't have the hardware to show for it.
As a Miami fan this hurts me to say but FSU is a program along with Coach Martin that should have at least 1 title. I think UF will win a title before FSU based on the talent Sullivan brings to UF. Nobody had done less with more than Sullivan but if he continues to recruit at this pace eventually talent will get him a title.
You can have all the talent you want, but you just have to get hot at the right time. No one would have imagined Coastal Carolina would have come in and did what they did last year. Think they were in the top 5 of the country in HR and sacrifice bunts
I think that's true in baseball more than other sports. The Cinderella team in basketball rarely gets to the final four yet alone the championship game. A couple years ago Fresno State made it deep in the CWS. Based on sheer talent UF might be the best the last 2 years but like you say you need to luck and be hot at the right time.
I think O'Sullivan has the players afraid to have fun as he is too high strung. Look at Coastal and Arizona last year and the fun the players were having in the dugout in Omaha. Let the kids be kids
Also have to avoid running into a strong b pitcher who is on a hot streak. Jared Poche at LSU right now with a no no and a 1 hitter given up in the 9th inning. If you run into that then it just wasn't meant to be.
UF just spanked Miami for the weekend sweep. Man Sully owns Morris. Again, UFs starting pitching is nasty. One thing mentioned above about Sully being high strung. There might be some truth to that. I always thought a head coach should be cool, calm, and collective. Nice to have an assistant who is high strung to balance it out. As far as my Canes, I think this will be a long year. Besides Romy who accounted for the only 2 runs UM scored all weekend via solo HR & our Fri. & Sat. starter the team looks overmatched. I'm questioning Morris's decision to go heavy JUCO as opposed to developing freshman.
I hope not
Back in the CWS finals again. Hopefully we can finally pull through this time...
Yes we did - Go Gators
Looks like we are over the hump!!! Sec-sec!!
Now 6 SEC CWS Champs: Florida, Mizzou, Georgia, South Carolina , Vandy, LSU
Did I miss anyone ?
What other conference has had 6 CWS champs?
Pac 10 has had at least 3: USC, Arizona State, Stanford
SWC/Big 12 has had at least 4 : Texas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Rice
Florida joins LSU as the only SEC schools, and two of the few nationally, to win
NCs in all 3 major sports - football, basketball, and baseball.
(Though LSU's basketball championship was unofficial and took place two years
before the A.P. polls. So Florida has the only 3 titles by conventional polls
But we do have 4 Final Fours
C'mon, man!; LSU has plenty of championships between football and baseball to not run with the whole "SEC! SEC! SEC!" schitck. I like LSU, even though you guys beat us for the 2009 CWS Championship, but you gotta do your own thing than be A&M-lilke
