Two of the past 3 seasons, the 2nd place team in the SEC MISSED the NCAAT. THAT'S crazy. Tell me of another P5 conferen@e who's second place team went to the NIT?

AS FOR THE Sec Having the highest RPI for 5 years. That's due to Kentucky and Florida, with UT being strong under Pearl. And of course some good South Carolina teams. But they aRe not consistntly deep. Every season Kentucky and Florida carry that conference.

The SEC outside of UF and UK is awful. And this year? Meh, who knows. Only team I see cApable of doing anything outside of UK is UGA....MAYBE LSU. POSSIBLY Ark.

Umm, I could argue against this, but I wont. Yes, the ACC is the best conference in the last 25 years. Overall.

i like OP's way of thinking. it means the B1G is the best football conference. :feelgoodman:

    B1G! B1G! B1G!

Doesn't change the overall point much, but Oklahoma State has won a couple.

Let me see if I've got this right, it's all so confusing. So, the ACC is better than the B1G because of the ACC's top-heaviness, but the SEC is worse than the B1G because of it's top-heaviness?
Elaborate. I'm curious as to how it's okay for the ACC to be top heavy, but not the SEC.
As for the Big12, also has less overall titles, only has 2 teams that has won titles as well, and as far as the SEC vs Big12 challenge goes for this season, the Big12 didn't blow the SEC out by any stretch of the term. By the end of the official SEC vs Big12, the Big12 won with a record of 6-4, and that doesn't include the 2 other SEC wins vs Big12 teams (Kentucky over Kansas, South Carolina over Iowa State).

Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma St.) won titles in 1945 & 46 as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Titles are the only measuring stick you can use. SEC is better than the Big due to titles

^ That is so simplistic it hurts. San Francisco is not a better program all-time than Illinois or Memphis, and if you believe they are, you're frankly an idiot.

Dumb thread. Good work OP. Big ten is clearly better and has been better for a long time. Only people that are arguing otherwise are UK fans, how shocking! [IMG]

Yale has more football NC's than any other team. The Ivy League has more NC's in football, than any other conference. So?

Arkansas and Georgia are probably the 2nd and 3rd best teams this year. Are the Big 10's 2nd and 3rd best teams any better? Don't really think Ohio State and Iowa are any better than those teams.

The SEC is a crap conference. Not even in the top 5 toughest conferences in the past 20 years.

Missouri Valley is tougher and deeper than the SEC ever is or ever has been.

The SEC has good teams every year. But never more than 1 or 2.

Four of the best programs are in the South. Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Duke. I'd say those four are better than any other geographical four in the country.

"UGA and Arky are probably the SEC 2nd and 3rd best teAms. Are Iowa and OSU any better"?

Meh, OSU maybe. But I think Maryland and Indiana probably aRe. Possibly Purdue. Maybe even MSU.

This year the SEC is pretty close to the Big. But, many consider the Big as down, yet they still may get up to 5 or 6 in the tourney.

Overall....year after is the focus. And overall, and year after year(for the most part) the Big 10'S easily a deeper and better conference.

    Right.

Hell, I would go so far as to say the NE is better than the Midwest in basketball. Who would the Big10/16 put up against UConn, Cuse, GTown, Nova and St Johns?

Or maybe it's combination of teams, and fans? Hell, I don't know? The bottom line is, it's common knowledge, the south is college football country.

In my opinion the SEC is just as good as the Big Ten this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Wisconsin was the only team in the Big Ten to make the sweet sixteen. I could see teams like Arkansas or LSU getting hot and winning a couple games.

I understand those teams were all big East at one point but now that's three different conferences. This was a conference discussion.

    Champs99;

"IMO the SEC is just as gvood as the Big, this year".

I agree. But thing is, its considered a doswn year for the Big. And supposedly an "up year" for the SEC.

The Midwest is basketball central. There are no better states than Ohio, Indiana, and IL for high school and college. With Chicago being the Capital of the basketball world.

    Hawk:

There's nothing like Hs basketball in INDIANA.

Crazy. Before class hoops, it was insane come tourney time. Still is, but not like it was. Damon Baileys senior year, 40,000 filled the Hoosier Dome for the state title game.

Totally agree. Its so epic, they made a movie about it. No other state can claim that. IL and Ohio have awesome talent, but dont have the passion like Indiana does. Now, they have passion as states for basketball, just not on Indiana's level.

Nothing like HS hoops in Indiana. My favorite time is tourney timme. Wsorkingv the sectional is crazy....Regional insane....semi-state? Folks are down right lunatics. Finals? Oh, geez.

Back in the day when locaL teams Jeff and New Albany were consistent top 10 teaMs, their games were on pay pr view.

I recall regional tickest selling for $200 or more.

    InsaNe.

Basketball in Iowa is pretty awesome too. It lacks the star power and is more about the programs, until you get to state. I love going to the state tourney in Des Moines.

One year we went, the tourney had Marcus Paige, Adam Woobury, Jeremy Morgan, and two other D1 players.
