If what you say is true....... then its obvious Cal backed off first because no one is going to be treating a main target that bad. (by the way there is no way it was as bad as that quote makes it sound) You think Cal gets all these awesome players by treating them like dog sh*t? Cal pushes players but I can guarantee you he wasnt pushing players that hard at team USA over the summer. Cal didnt even do his signature screaming on the sideline during those games... he was having fun, not in full on coaching mode.

his parents asked Cal how he got Booker and Lyles into the lottery playing 20 minutes a game
so his parents are looking for him to be OAD

i think the biggest thing is that he and Cal never meshed
in an interview Cal stated that he would love to just see him smile

Cal is an asshole and Romeo has a bad attitude. Both things are probably true. Duke was considered the leader from the jump and completely backed off too.

How crowded are these in home visits with these recruits. Judging by this board there is at least 25 to 30 people at the visit with Cal and Romeo.

They said it sounds worse then it looks and there's no bad blood just sometimes players/coaches don't mesh or becomes a point where the coach realizes he's swimming up stream. Sort of like when Crean quit recruiting Lyles after he decomitted but kept recruiting Blackmon.

I have no problem with kids having a little bit of attitude... We've all been there. Sometimes people dont mesh and rub each other the wrong way even for silly reasons.

But those of us BBN fans who follow recruiting closely can tell you... Cal backs off of kids for small things. Like one player from either Miss. or Bama said something to his grandma during an in home visit and Cal thought it was rude and that was that... no more recruiting him.

I'm not saying Langford is a bad kid at all. just explaining Cal is a little weird sometimes. He'll love Cousins but saying something to your own grandma is a no no....lol

I agree.. sometimes people just dont mesh. Also some insiders for UK have been saying it was mutual between Langford and Cal..... in terms of parting ways

it is interesting that Langford continued to list UK in his top 5 when he himself said that he had not heard from UK in weeks

well ... obviously having IU, KU, Duke, UK , UL, and UCLA as 6 of your finalists looks better than the realistic KU, IU, and UL and now which is just KU and IU.

just for PR.... players will say they have an offer when they really dont or its a conditional offer....... Kids and their handlers will do anything to build that brand.....
I'm not saying this about Langford because obviously everyone offered him... but it happens and coaches will usually let it go without coming out and saying no that player doesnt have an offer.

Its pretty much KU though. with the outside chance of IU if KU gets in trouble through adidas.

Yes, think he already did an official. Hard to turn down a paid trip to California. They had been recruiting him for a while but the main recruiter was Ed Schilling who's at IU now. I think we get him as well but not really confident yet.

Is IU going to get names on the backs of their jersey's? you want to step back up with the big boys.. you have to learn how to brand and market your players even if it breaks tradition

I see Archie going the Roy/Izzo route of 4 star guys, with a 5 star sprinkled in over the UK/Duke way. As long as its not the Crean way I'm happy

    i sorta disagree with you
i think once Archie gets his feet wet recruiting he will get get his share of 5 star players
i think he is the best young coach with the highest ceiling in the game today

it will take him a couple of years
    i really like the hire
i very seldom root for IU, but i do think CBB is much better when the blue bloods are strong and competing for titles

False. They do not like to say that, especially during this particular recruitment.

What other sources, other than Rabjohns, lead you to believe IU is in the lead?

I am not @Da_Bull (thank god I might add) :) so not sure what other sources he might have. IU is right in it as has been the case since the first meeting with Archie.

Not really. But for the longest time it was UofL, then after Archie was hired and some in home visits IU had climbed up to pretty even footing as Duke faded off. Now UofLs out and all of a sudden KU jumps ahead?

Archie is an awesome coach. Ive been predicting him to IU for over 3 years now(which makes it all the more funny the IU "experts" wanted all their subscribers to believe Donovan or Bennett was a real choice). But that being said, 5 stars are not going to be his route to success.

You simply dont out recruit Self, K, and Cal year in and year out. You selectively target local 5 stars or the occasional one who shows interest and build your program the Crean way thru mostly high end 4 stars who stay and develop. Roy Williams has been killing the game with this approach.

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-college-basketball-scandal-20171010-story.html

Two people involved in the case, who spoke on the condition they not be identified because of the ongoing legal proceedings, said they expect more college coaches and others involved with grassroots basketball programs to be charged later this month.

“This is the tip of the iceberg,” one of them said.

One former high-major college coach who retains deep connections in the business said he believes the case will lead to 40 to 50 job openings for head and assistant coaches by the spring.

Cracks me up that no one knew a thing about this case for three years and now every one is able to have sources on what is going to happen next. If they are talking to the press they don't know a damn thing. I am pretty sure we all know that the potential is there for many more coaches to be indicted.

I agree that random dudes on Twitter shouldn't be trusted but don't think Bruce Feldman and the LA Times would publish items like this unless they could back them up. People didn't say anything before because nobody likes a rat. Now people are being questioned, trying to save their own asses and the consensus is, "If I'm going down, everybody else doing what I do is going down as well."

I have no interest getting into the fake news argument on this board but Bruce Feldman and the LA Times are two exceptional media outlets that I've followed for years. Are they all knowing? No, of course not. But they're very good at their jobs and don't just post lies or innuendo. If both outlets say they believe it, I'm willing to accept their side.
