Which fanbase will rejoice a time without Coach K.

I'm kind of excited to see how Scheyer runs things.

I mean, we didn't offer a single recruit in the 2022 class until freaking June. Unheard of. In the matter of a few months, we went from having zero scholarship extended - to having the #1 class in the country. We've offered 8 guys scholarships in this class, and 6 of them have committed to Duke. I know every class won't be like this, but his yield rate for the c/o of 2022 is phenomenal.

Is Schreyer Penny 2.0? He'll have the talent and resources.

He'll have talent and resources, yes. But, methinks Scheyer will be a much better coach.

That used to be how Calipari operated too, but it can burn you when you go all-in on guys and they go elsewhere. Then you're left scrambling trying to get commitments from players that feel like they aren't/weren't a priority, which is a lot tougher. Of course now when that happens coaches just hit the free agent market.... er, I mean the transfer portal, so it's not such a big deal. Some coaches have now prioritized transfers over unproven and inexperienced high school players. I think a mixture of both is the way to go.

Sustaining a program on OADs is tough. Not all freshmen classes are going to be equal. It's a roll of the die, for sure. And your 4-star recruits often grow tired of waiting for starter minutes, understandably so, and find themselves as role players once again when 3-4 more top 15 recruits come walking through the door. These 4-star recruits frequently transfer. So, depth is often very, very limited. We need guys like Jaden Schutt to stick around for 3-4 years. Having Wendell Moore on the current team has been huge. We often don't have any productive upperclassmen, let alone an all-conference performer.

I love how Bill Walton calls it the "tinder portal." That's basically what the transfer market is. Coaches swiping right saying, "Hey, I like you."

I love Bill Walton. I will watch a shitty Pac-12 game just to hear what kind of nonsense is running through his brain. I think he's hilarious. I know some people feel differently, but I love his back and forth with Dave Pasch. 85% of the time they are talking about things other than basketball. Dave constantly tries to reel him back in and get back on course but it never works.😆

Absolutely! I watch those games for the commentary 95% of the time. It's usually a good time to do chores and just listen to Walton ramble.

If Walton were calling Duke games, I don't think I'd like it so much. But, Pac-12 teams? By all means, Bill, ramble on. Gotta love him talking about the Aztecs spilling the blood of their own on the temple altar as a human sacrifice, in the middle of the game - only to have Dave transition the audience back to the game, "A three by Jones. Good!"

Curious but what stood out about him to make him the coach in waiting?

Many people say that not only does he connect REALLY well with kids, but that he is a straight up basketball genius. Like, an incredible, incredible mind for the game, with a fantastic way of breaking the game down. Plus, he is tough as nails. And he is also young, so if he DOES screw up, I think his career will survive it.

How long is his leash? if he goes .500 is that good enough?

I have to call you out. you dodge questions like this.

Sounds like I will hate him more than K. 😁

I do? I mean, it is a kind of vague question... like, I don’t think a black or white decision based on record is the way to go? I would think that .500 wouldn’t get it done, but I would also assume he would have a few years to get his feet under him and there aren’t any circumstances that would be out of the ordinary?
