What is toughness in basketball?

It is definitely not judging your worth by comparing yourself to a better program. In case you were wondering.

Watch an Iowa game. Then imagine what the exact opposite would look like. That should give you an understanding of toughness.

-Embracing contact
-Not giving up on plays
-Diving for loose balls - or just generally laying your body on the line to make a play
-Not complaining about questionable calls
-Disciplined defense/boxing out
-Not getting rattled under pressure
I didn’t even bring up those 2, which are arguably the biggest. I would say mental toughness is more important than physical toughness. Remaining calm under pressure and locked in and consistently playing your game are huge parts of basketball. MSU severely lacks that mental toughness aspect this year.

Rebounding and defense?
I thnk its over used----but there is value. Tough to me is a team that has some nastiness to them...They'll fight you for every ball....every rebound.Defend you like you stole something from them.. They take what happens personally...

And then the mental aspect---Which to me is the definition. If you are meantally tough, all of the above comes naturally.
