I'm surprised we don't have a spy satellite fixed over the area for just this type of situation.

I haven't seen anything saying it was a sub attack.

And I suspect they could detect temperature differentials.

lets get this right and wait until all the facts and TRUTH comes out before we start sending missiles into countries that cost more American lives.

As a Vet I am all for protecting America and I will be the first to pick up my arms to do just that but neither one of these ships were American.

Can other countries start protecting themselves for a change?

Well.....one of the ships was a Marshall Islands flagged vessel and the Marshall Islands are a US protectorate so it is sort of a US vessel.

I do suspect it was not torpedoes despite the headline given that neither vessel was sunk and one had a hole above the waterline. Sounds more like limpet mines or perhaps small bombs on drones.

It seems to me that Iran is trying to provoke an action against them. This is the preemption to large scale martyrdom. The ultimate goal of every radicalized Islamic group is to create a watershed moment that will serve to unite all or most Islamic tribes under one flag to wage war with the West.

I think the best course of action here is to stay the course and continue to choke Iran economically. In order to pull this off, we need to check with Europe and the big players in Asia to keep them on board despite appeals that Iran will inevitably make to them to lessen sanctions. Make them die the slow death and don’t provide them with the military action they seek to try and galvanize all of Islam.

Agreed. You can’t respond to that level of targeting of our personnel with sanctions. The response though would need to be proportional and surgical. I’m sure our leadership already has strategic targets in mind should that go down that way.

Proportional to my way of thinking would be they kill 17 servicemen, we render 17 square miles unpopulated.

Europeans, and I know quite a few first hand, are pretty much a bunch of puzzies... They have no problem with you fighting the fight, and they want a cut of the spoils if ya win, (don't know ya if it goes badly).

Their "moral superiority" is like a damned house cat's bringing people who think they are owners small animals they have killed or maimed... True nit wits think it is cute and a sign of affection. Were that cat big enough, without the slightest compunction that damned cat would do the same maiming and killing to the "Owners". We've seen what Europeans did for years when they were the "Leaders on the Globe"...

Quite honestly, once you attack the infrastructure the way we can, we can destroy their ability to filter clean drinking water, electricity etc... it would create widespread famine and the loss of life of many innocents. I’m kind of hopeful that we don’t disrespect the outcome of that kind of show of force.

At the same time, this technology could totally cripple their nuclear program if we shut down plants during the enrichment stage of uranium needed to weaponize the materials. I’m with you on that one. What are we waiting for?

Eh...I see where you’re coming from but the real draw is the age old story. They possess desired resources in fossil fuels and we’re highly dependent upon them as a large consumer nation.

Can't really blame the Brits for that one.... We wanted the same things as all the rest of 'em.... The Seven Sisters were not going to allow all that cheap oil (There for the taking) get away from 'em... The Brits simply bowed out when the sledding got tougher than they could manage.

Nope... We are dependent on fossil fuels. We are not dependent on Middle Eastern oil.... There is Oil a plenty in North and South Americas.... The Mideastern Oil was oil we could take by proxy....

We are rapidly approaching near energy independence with imports only from Canada and Mexico. Thank goodness for fracking.

“A plenty” is in the eye of the beholder. Fossil fuels are a limited resource. So it has value of dependence wherever it exists. The areas we control should be left unharvested for as long as possible for “a rainy day” for a lack of a better term.

No way. We should maximize domestic production. It’s goid for the economy and for national security. We have hundreds of years’ worth. We will probably have some other energy source long before we exhaust our own oil, gas and coal reserves.

I disagree. I think we should use up everyone else's reserves first... then start using our own after that. I don't think we should let any of our fossil fuel supply go to another nation. I'd rather be the last country with oil, gas and coal.

Where do you get the idea the "limited resource" is as limited as is made out?... The doom and gloomers had us running out about the time you were born... The area we left "Unharvested" should be left unharvested as we find better ways to do what we do without it.... As oil gets more expensive other ways will become more attractive....
