The Adam Scott thread got me thinking: who are the top 5 golfers looking forward for the next few years? Don't just spit back the World Golf Rankings either. Think about it from this perspective, which golfers would you bet on to win the most big tournaments/majors over the next few years?

Such a deep field right now, I could see a lot of answers here. Here's my .02 cents:

    1. Jordan Spieth
    2. Dustin Johnson
    3. Brooks Koepka (biggest question mark seems to be his wrist)
    4. Justin Rose
    5. Patrick Reed

Knocking on the door (in no order): Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas, Sergio Garcia

    Wildcards: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy

Pretty much agree but I don't see Tiger even as a wildcard anymore. There's not one single aspect of his game that is near the top. I wanted to see him come back and win a major but I don't see him doing anything other than maybe winning a weak field fall event.

I think Finau should at least be in the knocking on the door list.

I think Day has some more big wins in his future.

Hideki Matsuyama would be a wild card for me. Tons of talent and some really good finishes. 26 so can start turning the corner with more and more experience.

Idk man. He's been pretty impressive given how long the layoff and comeback was. Really dang impressive. I could definitely see him in strong contention at some Masters and specific British Opens. Not to mention Pebble Beach next year.

He's not as good as any of those guys you mention. They aren't all going to have a bad week at the same time. I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

Spieth up and got engaged. His career has been thwarted for the time being. Until if he's able to figure that dynamic out. I like Bryson DeChambeau. He's got a demeanor about him, respects the history of the game. Xander Schauffele is also someone to watch.

John Rahm has the talent and the head. Needs some more experience. As for anyone who thinks tiger maybe because of his comeback this year: as you get older EVERY year seems like two or three in what you lose athletically. I turn 60 in two weeks and I will say that once you turn 40-45 every injury from a hang nail to back surgery gets harder and harder to recover from. Tigers window is closing fast.

He's not as good TODAY. The dude is coming back from a multi-year layoff. He's going to keep improving.

Definitely agree that if Tiger is going to win another big tournament, it's going to happen in the next 3-4 years.

If we are talking the next 5 years I'd take:

    Dustin Johnson
    Tommy Fleetwood
    Justin Thomas
    Rory
    Jon Rahm

I agree he has his moments on the course of wacking out but he definitely has the drive and inner fire.

Brooks Koepka needs to show he has more "range" in tournament wins. He has 3 wins..two of them the US Open.

He's got like 6 top 10s in his last 10 majors, plus another T11 and T13. He's shown plenty of "range." Honestly, he might be the most consistent performer in majors over the last 4 years.

His PGA Tour numbers are lower because he played several years on the European Tour, winning once. Also has a couple wins on the Japan Tour, I believe.

You're right about the majors record..very impressive.

Here's my entirely speculative Top 10 for the next 5 years:

    DJ
    Koepka
    Justin Thomas
    McIlroy
    Fleetwood
    Matsuyama
    Rahm
    Reed
    Day
    Spieth

    Next 10:

Rose, Oosthuizen, DeChambeau, Fowler, Finau, Cantlay, Stenson, Si Woo Kim, Schauffele, Cabrera-Bello

He's #6 (was #5 last week) in the world and only 23. So he's literally a top 10 player already. Not really that surprising.

For a guy that just made is debut at the US Open, I'd keep an eye out for Dylan Meyer.

Sure. But I'm just not sure I'm convinced he has the mental makeup to win on the biggest stages. He's got more cuts in majors than he does top 25 finishes.

That kid definitely has game. He would be on my list of knocking on the door folks if we were talking about the 2022-2027 time frame. Jon Rahm would be the same.

I have to be completely honest, I simply don't like him. I can respect drive and passion but he comes off as a psycho. He's very talented but I have my doubts he matures enough to be one of the next greats and if he does, he may be into his 30's surrounded by even better players.

He's a golfer I pull against and hope collapses on Sunday. So my bias is probably clouding my judgement of him.

    Patrick Cantlay
    Justin Thomas
    Bryson Dechambeau
    Dustin Johnson
    Jordan Spieth

I think when Spieth figures out his putting problems, he's off to the races again. Every time I look up, Patrick Cantlay is on a leaderboard.

He acts like a mental midget, I'll give you that.

But he's one of the 5 youngest to ever reach the OWGR top 10. The others being Tiger, Spieth, McIlroy, and Sergio. Pretty good company.

Tiger got engaged in late '03, then won several majors over the next 5 yrs or so. But yeah, a player can get distracted by such things no doubt.

I have to include Koepka considering what he did last Saturday

That round won't get near the fame it should but that course crushed basically everyone else that evening.

Just look at all those names, the PGA Tour has never been deeper with talent.

Couple more to add to that next top 10 to watch out for that might rise up and challenge are:

    Daniel Berger
    Aaron Wise
    Sam Burns

    34 here

I was an idiot in my twenties without millions of dollars

Odds are you may as well hand over half of their money (short a nice and romantic pre-nup) off top.
