Western Kentucky got more 5 stars than everyone in the Big Ten combined outside of MSU and IU.

I would have never guessed...pretty remarkable.

Rick Stansbury is coaching at WKU right now. They've won 27, 20, 20 games in the last 3 years. Haven't reached the NCAAT

Hard to argue that any coach has done a better job the last 5 years than Tony Bennett

I’d say Jay Wright has been better. Shouldn’t punish a coach for recruiting a few 5 stars. Recruiting is part of the job.

I'm not punishing him. He has two titles lol. But it's definitely easier to win when you have better talent, right?

Not sure that you can definitively say that Wright had a lot more talent. Hasn't Virginia had a lot of high 4 stars?

I’m not sure there’s a noticeable difference between the 20th ranked kid who’s a 5 star and the 35th ranked kid who’s a 4 star.

But even if there is a subtle difference, you just said it—he’s got 2 titles in the last 5 years. That’s double what Tony Bennett has. Two titles is significantly better than one title when we are talking about a 5 year window.

And further, the whole point is to win, so shouldn’t signing a guy who makes it easier to win be part of what makes a great coach?

Bennett has been incredible. But to say it’s “hard to argue” that any coach has done better...well that’s not correct at all. It’s pretty easy to make a logical argument for Wright.

But doesn't some of the credit go to Wright? I don't think it's that much easier to recruit 5 stars to Nova vs. UVA

Come on guys... I don't actually think Bennett has done a better job than Wright the last 5 years :)

Probably 2nd best though :D

Ranked 110 on the 247 composite.

The rankings can really differ based on the service. This is why you gotta trust your staff's ability to evaluate.
He moved up 52 spots on Rivals(now 89th). Not sure how he dropped 40 spots on 247, with the summer he had----A summer good enough to jump him 50+ spots on Rivals.

But you are right....Rankings can vastly differ...Gotta trust the staff.

Texas has 3 if you want to mixmatch 247 composite and the actual 247 rankings..

In Basketball 247 sucks IMO..
Rivals has way better evaluators for basketball from what I have seen.

Don't really have an opinion on ESPN

But 247 is much higher on David Joplin. They have him as the 59th best player
In the composite he is 110.

But just with upside I think Joplin has the highest.

Might end up getting a huge bump from Rivals as well.

Besides Rivals (which will suck now with Bossi gone) and 247 which else matters? Logan very obvious top 100 kid

Did they even have a summer aau circuit this year? Not sure how anyone can rise or fall that much with no game tape to evaluate. Weird.

If the 2 guys we have for 22’ reclass we’ll have 5. I think Enoch will and play at MSU for 21’. Emoni Bates? Who knows, it could happen but I won’t get my hopes up.

AAU regional events were played all summer across the country. A lot of them were streamed for coaches and evaluators.

Indiana AAU (Spiece and Indiana Elite) played all summer. At the end the two faced off against each other.

Logan went up against Top 40 player Caleb Furst and dropped 29 and 13. That was a big reason for the move.

Right on, I wasn’t aware. I don’t much follow recruiting until players commit, and even then sparsely. And really only who we have coming in.

Like the Cunningham kid from okie state. I’ve obv heard of him at this point and expect he will be good bc that seems to be the consensus, but I Wouldn’t know him if he walked up and said hello, so needless to say I have no clue what his game is like.

Smart individual haha. I have begun to care less but still get sucked in from time to time.

Yea just not worth the time. We’ve had so many highly touted guys not pan out, and unheralded guys that were always outperforming said highly rated guys it’s like what’s the point. I can’t even remember the last time we had a 5 star guy live up to expectations. I guess Siva, but he was the 3rd best player on the 2013 team imo, granted without his leadership and demeanor we woulda never won that fancy asterisk.

Overrated 5 stars
Samardo samuels
Terrance Jennings
Wayne blackshear
Chane behanen
VJ King
Shaqquon aaron
Chris Jones (juco)

And it’s not like we haven’t had players in the same time frame that were super successful. Not a ton of nba guys just a few, but we’ve had some really good players that were 3 star or lower. Obv Russ Smith comes to mind, but even guys like Luke Hancock, Kyle Kuric and Preston Knowles outplay higher ranked guys at their position.

But the worst part about it imo, is the expectations of the fan base. If Blackshear had come to Louisville as a three star and had the exact same career, it would be considered a decent to damn good college career. But because he was a burger boy, projected OaD etc we as fans thought he was gonna be amazing, and our best player by far and he just never lived up to that hype. Which is crazy stupid imo.

Plenty of AAU games this year...

I worked a few myself---One in St'Louis....Another in FT Wayne.

More refined Ben Simmons.
At least a more aggressive one. Reason why he probably would have fit much better with 2019-2020 Oklahoma State than 2020-2021.

On the other players to play off of him.
