And why it's the best conference in mens hoops. This kind of attendance for two bubble teams? Not going to find that ANYWHERE else! (Illinois vs Michigan)

    17,087 in attendance.

The Big Ten is comprised almost entirely of big, state schools with rich basketball (and football) tradition, so I am not sure it's a completely apples-to-apples comparison. However, having a big school certainly isn't something to apologize for, and as a college basketball fan it's great to see the passion at these games.

Not a bad idea, just poor execution by OP. Nice crowd however.

The fact he had to pull up exhibition games on two occasions is rather desperate

Big..38 years in a row leading the country in attendance

C99-04 already explained why. The Big [ sic ] mostly encompasses high population states that have no in state rivals/competition. The attendance averages of the B1G have more to do with monopolies withing a large geographical footprint than fan dedication. It's like Russia bragging that they have a larger labor force than Japan. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of; but we all know which is more efficient.

I hate to take up for the OP but Lol some of yall are sad and pathetic. Tampa brought up games from the acc, a women's game, games during shoot arounds, and psu, nw, etc. The B1G is basketball just accept it. SEC leads in football attendance, B1G leads in basketball, just shows where the fans interest is. B1G fans love their basketball and we are the best and biggest fans in the country as a conference. No reason to get your panties in a bunch and make excuses.

Yawn, doeant matter. Sure we'd like to have more championships but we still typically have more teams in the tournament and win more tournament games than any other conference. It is what it is.

They aren't rivals no but the argument was "no in state competition" dc is barely an hour away (in good traffic) from the Maryland campus.

This is an amusing argument given every time sec football attendance is pimped they talk about the dying rust belt that is the Midwest and yet now we have monopoly like hoops teams? Lol ok.

The Big Ten has led conference attendance for 38 straight years. 38. Straight. Years. I wonder why Tampa_Cat would waste so much time posting pictures that mean absolutely nothing.

9 of the Big Ten's 12 teams were in the top 25 for attendance numbers.

If you want to trash the fact the Big Ten has shit the bed when it comes to winning a title, that's fair. Arguing that the Big Ten isn't the best conference in terms of fanbases is sheer stupidity, though. Please keep the stupidity to a minimum, folks.

You just proved my point for me. Pitt, Cincy, Xavier, Butler, Purdue, Northwestern, Marquette.....all schools whose fan bases rarely reach further than the city they are located in.

When there are multiple teams at the division 1 level within each state the fact they aren't the "big dog" is irrelevant. They are competing within their areas for fans. Ohio alone has like 20 division 1 basketball schools if not more. I didn't even mention Philly relative to Penn state. This is a silly argument to make. And it isn't as if Kentucky basketball doesn't reach across state lines or there isn't a significant amount of duke and Carolina fans scattered across the midwest taking away fans of the state team. Bottom line is the big ten leads in attendance. Arguing the why in your case is only to suit your own bias.
