So Steph set the NBA record for all time made threes last night, breaking Ray “Jesus Shuttlesworth” Allen’s record. It took Steph 774 games to set the record.

Ray’s previous record took him 1,300. THIRTEEN HUNDRED. Playing 75 of the 82 games per season, that would be 7 more seasons.

Are we witnessing Steph setting a Wayne Gretzky type of record?

Nothing against Steph because he’s the best shooter of all time and changed the game but the game has definitely changed so comparing per game numbers to that generation isn’t fair. Going forward people will get closer to Steph’s record than they will to Gretzky’s or Tiger’s records.

I really don’t know about that.

Steph is gonna add another 60% to this record. He’s got 36 games with 9+ made threes. Obviously first all time. The next 5 on the list (Harden, Lillard, Klay, JR Smith, and Kobe) have 34. Combined.

I’m not saying they’ll ever catch Steph but it won’t be close to Tiger’s or Gretzky’s gap. Duncan Robinson is the quickest to 500 made threes. There’s going to be a lot of elite shooters entering the NBA with more staying power than Duncan Robinson in the next 10, 20, 30 years.

As long as we're being homerish...

Seth Curry has a better career 3-point percentage than Steph (44.6% to 43.2%).

Never been a fan of Curry. He’s too much of a 🌭 with all of his self-celebratory antics. He thinks everyone is as into him as he is.

I like Steph. But the chances of him making a three and having the self control not to do 17 dumbass hand gestures after a make is slim to none. He literally can’t help himself.

Sports are about fun and entertainment. The home crowd wants to high five and celebrate and Steph knows they, and his teammates, feed off his energy and swagger.

If opponents don’t want to see a Steph shimmy, they should find a way to stop him.

What if the fans don’t want to see it? I mean I get being caught up in an exciting, outstanding play, but after every shot it comes across as a little obnoxious.

That makes sense, but you will never please all college bball fans IMO . Timme is just one of the players you either love or hate, like Noah and Psycho T to name a few.

That’s true, and I don’t dislike any of them. The constant celebration just waters down their achievement in my eyes.

I recommend those who don’t think highly of Curry give this a watch. He’s an insane shooter who never stops moving. It’s a nightmare for the defense.

I love it when the guys celebrate 5 yard gains in football. I mean really make me laugh they do so mission accomplished. They look like clowns when they do it. Clowns be funny.

Have you heard Golden State home games? It seems pretty clear they like seeing it. That place rocks when Steph gets it going.

Exactly. There is no one even in the realm of Gretzky's or Tiger Woods' records. There is a bigger gap between Gretzkey and the #2 all time scorer than the gap between the #2 all time scorer and the #96 all time score. It's asinine.

Steph's record is amazing but comparing it to Gretzky is something only an NBA slappy would do.

Steph’s career isn’t finished yet. Of course there’s not the same gap…yet. But if the 9+ Threes made in a game record is an indication, the gap could certainly get pretty big.

How bout father son duo? That one might be the immovable object. Dell gotta be in top 100 without looking it up.

Curry could play until he’s about 38 and get a Gretzky-like lead over Ray Allen. Certainly do-able. But Ray Allen isn’t the comparison. The game has changed so much that Ray Allen might not even be top 10 in 3pt FGS made 30 years from now.

Ray Allen averaged 2.3 3pt FGs per game over his career. There are 49 players in the NBA averaging more 3pt FGs than that this season.

Ray Allen only averaged over 2.7 3pt FGs per game 3 times in 18 seasons. There are 20 players this year averaging 2.8 3pt FGs or higher this year.

And Tiger’s made cut streak….. I’d be surprised if anyone in my lifetime even hits 50 made cuts in a row. Let alone 100. Let alone 142.

But most players aren’t gonna have the longevity of Ray. Dame Lillard is still like 1,000 behind.

Steph might play another 7 years and add 2,000 more threes.

You’re right about Tiger’s cut streak, that’s a crazy one.

They don’t need to though if they are averaging 60 more 3s a season than Allen averaged. Buddy Hield can do in 13 seasons what took Allen 18. Now maybe Hield does or doesn’t play that long but there’s a good 5+ players with realistic chances of it.

Then consider shooters coming into the league in the next 10-15 years that will walk right into a league where hoisting 10 3pt FGs a game is fine.

Ray Allen’s made 3s per game his first 5 seasons in the league:

Anthony Edwards
2.4
3.1

Donovan Mitchell

Lamelo Ball

More shooters coming in means more shots start getting spread out. Won’t have as many guys taking 10–12 threes a game when everyone can make them.

You predict we’ll see a decline in individual 3s per game? That’s not what the trajectory shows.

Steph Curry started in the league before the garbage Jack up 3s NBA.

So some of these records of how fast someone hit a certain number of 3s is a product 9mof the way the gane is played.

Imagine if he started 2 years ago.
