Who advances to the Elite 8? Final Four?

UVA
Oregon
Tennessee
Purdue

I'll let you know after Saturday.

  • It should be Tennessee IMO but they haven't looked good in the tournament, blowing big leads against Colgate and Iowa (really? Iowa?).
  • UVA has been the best of the four most of the season but has just looked okay in the tournament.
  • Purdue played possibly the most impressive game of the tournament in dismantling the defending champs (who are obviously not as good as last year). Can they do that three straight games? I'm not confident.
  • Oregon may actually be the hottest of the four teams having won 10 straight with the last 3 being by 18 or more over tournament teams.

Virginia blows a 16 point lead in the elite 8 and Tennessee gets to the final floor by shooting 30 free throws to Virginia's 4.

UVA's defense has been incredible the last 3 halves though. We held OU 44 points under their 1st round performance against Ole Piss. I agree that we haven't looked great offensively and that may cost us. But we're playing in Louisville where we have had a TON of success. I'm hoping we shoot better than we have, particularly Kyle Guy.

I think the last part is the key. If uva doesn’t shoot the ball well, Oregon may have a chance late in a low scoring game. If Guy and Jerome are hitting 3s, UVA is headed to the elite 8

I think OU was a really good matchup for you. They don't like to shoot the three and you are adept at forcing people to take a lot of threes. Of the tournament teams, only Kentucky, Minnesota, Tennessee, UC Irvine and SLU are less reliant on the three.

Frankly, I know Tennessee is better than Purdue on paper and has shown to be over the course of the season, but we match up better with you IMO. Both Carsen Edwards and Ryan Cline being two of the top 6 3PM shooters in the country and both are comfortable shooting from 25-27 feet.

UVA - 51%
UTjr - 23%
Purdon't - 19%
Oregon - 7%

Pretty accurate assessment.

In 2016, Virginia became the first #1 seed to ever lose to a #10 seed.
In 2018, Virginia became the first #1 seed to ever lose to a #16 seed.
In 2019, Virginia can become the first #1 seed to ever lose to a #12 seed.
;)

Proud of all the 1 seeds. Not really proud of the other shit. In 2019, Virginia can become the first #1 seed for Virginia to win it all.

You only have 4 teams to make fun of their names, are you so limited you couldn't come up with two more names?

UVA and Oregon have been to final 4s. Respect must be earned.

Well, we have never been a #1 seed and had our asses handed to us on the opening game, so I call BS.

When playing at their absolute best, Tennessee is the best team in the region. That being said, they’re much less consistent than UVA and have been very up and down the past month.

UVA is much more consistent, and still plays at a very high level when they’re on. They don’t take games (or halves) off which has been an Achilles heel for TN.

Purdue is capable of beating both of them, but needs to continue incredible outside shooting to do so (Edwards was actually in a mild slump before the Nova game). They can continue to live by the 3, but eventually will die from it.

Oregon would have to string together their best two games of the year to advance. As hot as they’ve been, they’ve yet to play the level of competition they’re about to get.

All in all, I prefer consistency over ceiling, so I’ll go:

UVA: 40%
UT: 35%
Purdue: 20%
Oregon: 5%

This is not true in any way, shape or form.

UVA's A+ game on both sides of the ball is a juggernaut of efficiency that is mind-numbingly frustrating to play against. If they are hitting from outside and getting offensive rebounds they are virtually impossible to beat, unless you can completely out-athlete them like duke. Tenn can't do that. If both played their A game UVA would win by double digits.
